It's been a lousy month so far. First my Grandmother died at the ripe old age of 80. My father, who has had a serious alcohol problem for the last 20 years finally died in his sleep on Sunday night. Sadly, the only emotion I feel for him is anger. He left home when I was 6, but I always tried to keep in contact. He collapsed 10 years ago when his heart stopped and was told he wouldnt live past xmas if he didnt stop drinking. Once xmas came and went, he started drinking again and would joke that if he reached his 50's, he'd be satisfied. He showed only contempt for his grandkids, and had shown no interest in anything apart from his daily two bottles of vodka and 60 smokes. In the end his liver collapsed and was diagnoised with every cancer imaginable. Just before he died, he pulled off his oxygen mask and asked me, "Wheres my vodka?" Those were the last words he spoke to me. Now my mother has been diagnosed with depression. The worst part is that she has no short term memory at all, and has refused to acknowledge it as a problem. Its becoming a full time job making sure she's OK but at least we now know what the problem is.
Last night my 5 year old daughter lost her first tooth and was really excited about a visit from the tooth fairy. Strangely, it has made me feel a lot better.

Watchtower Officials Spill The Beans!
by Voyager intwo high ranking watchtower officials admit to quite a lot in these official committee hansard documents.
if you are one of jehovah's witnesses, perhaps you would like to read how two senators take the watchtower officials apart piece by piece.
especially on the blood issue, several times the watchtower officials walk right into a wall.. the watchtower officials admit that the tax imposed by france could cripple the entire organization.

Thanks for posting the article. I do think that the "Brothers" got off lightly though. However, the draining of blood issue thing really did show what idiotic rules they follow.
I didnt realise the French had actually imposed a 60% tax on the Dubs... Go France!! Lets hope the rest of the world follow.

Yes, I am, but no I am not....
by hillary_step inhello fellow screen junkies,.
i have had a number of messages in recent days concerned about my posting style having changes in recent weeks.
as you may note i have become a little more combative in my replies of late and have imbued a new sense of tenacity when dealing with certain issues.

HS,
I’ve enjoyed these posts and I’ll even admit that one or two of your comments have shown errors in my arguments. However, for the majority of your post, I doubt we will ever see eye to eye. Maybe this is a result of me being “ill informed”, or just not having the skill or time to convey the whole picture.
One thing that annoyed me was your criticism of my observation of the elders in my congregation. You may have visited or attended more congregations than I, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you are better informed. I could submit a post outlining the racist, physically abusive, sexually abusive men that lead our congregation. Who knows, maybe one day I will post my experiences on this board. I could outline the conversations the son of one of these elders had with me, describing the physical and barbaric treatment he and his sisters went through. Showing me the scars of years of beatings. Watching this young man wet himself in fear when his father turned up to collect him from my house. I could describe the events leading up, and causing one of the few friends I had in the hall walking into one of these elders houses, covering herself in petrol, and setting herself alight. I could describe the wife battery of another elder, whose wife would attend meetings with black eyes and broken limbs. The treatment my poor brother-in-law endured when his mother married an elder would not have been out of place in a 19 th century prison. I could mention an elders “taste” in only the very young black sisters in out hall. I could go on and on. Knowledge of these events and many more where common knowledge in our hall, and yet the congregation would clap like seals when one of these monsters gave a public talk. Maybe I was just unlucky to be in such a warped congregation, maybe it was the norm. I don’t know. You mentioned that my views were possibly biased. Maybe so, but I can only comment what I have seen and heard. If that makes my experience limited, then so be it. I’m not saying that all elders are bad men, and I’m sure that even the elders in my congregation had good points. Even so, I’m sure most people would agree that sometimes the good points become insignificant when overshadowed by such extreme bad.
Sheesh! I’d had forgotten most of this shit until now. Lets hope it doesn’t take another 10 years for me to forget it all again.
Apologies if this post sounds like I'm ranting. ; )
All the best HS,
Yxl

Didnt they generate that exact revenue figure last year? And the year before? Methinks something dark and evil is going on at the WTS...

Wedding Present: The Family Happiness book
by Nosferatu inmy mother told me that after i get married, she's going to give me the "family happiness" book.
i've never read the thing, but i know it's a wts publication that often gets given or mailed out to newlyweds who aren't in the troof.
what's your opinion of this "fine christian publication"?

I found the book quite offensive. I'd give it back.
