  for some time, i've been contemplating doing a solo album, but i had no clue exactly what i wanted to do.

  lately, i've been recording me singing to some karaoke discs (which will end up on my website).

  Nos, Its amazing what you can do with a PC these days. What software are you using? I recommend tools like Cool Edit Pro and Acid. Very easy to use, hundreds of directX pluggins for effects, sound quality that surpasses normal CD quality, and at least 256 tracks. To own that kind of recording power would have cost 10's of thousands 10-20 years ago.

  I found the most important thing about home recording is that you must have fun while doing it. It can consume hours and hours. The wedding thing sounds like a great idea and I'm really looking forward to hearing your stuff.

  There are some great websites which can help you with the fine details of recording/producing/arranging and engineering. I dont know what level you're at, but you might want to check out : http://www.recording.s5.com/html/recording_tips.html

  The style I'm working on is a kind of 70's rock/pop thing with infuences of Stevie wonder and Elton Johns early years. I've done a few classical albums, an acoustic album, and a few heavy rock albums when I was in a band. These days, its just a one man band. I'm quite fortunate that I can play many instruments so there is no need for additional musicians.

  Am I ramblin'? Sorry, but I get so excited hearing about peoples home projects ;-)

  i signed up for a "yahoo personals" account a million years ago and get updates like berserk which i never read.

  i never put my picture up and have never subscribed to their "expanded service" where you can actually contact the people that they match you up with.

  do these things really work?

  A good friend of mine uses them often and has had a lot of success. Normally in the region of 2-3 a month with at least two of them giving out on the first date. He's kinda smitten with one at the moment (as she looks like a young Debbie harry) so he's kinda giving it all a rest

  Looking forward to hearing your stuff. I love listening to unsigned music on the web, and regularly visit nowhereradio.com to listen to what real people are writing/recording. Its facinating to hear what for a few thousand pounds and some real talent people are producing at home. I've got some old tunes still on there from last year which I never got around to completing.

  I've been recording my album for the last 6 months, but I'm still only half way through as I got held up having a new home studio built (Yee Haa!) Hopefully I'll have something rough posted by summer. There will be a few sly little bigs at the WTS. HA

  I'm not sure, but I'd assume taking JW literature into a classroom is now forbidden. Well, lets hope so.

  There was a french MP on the BBC last night defending the new ruling. The bottom line was that if you come to live in our country, you live by our rules. He went on to say that if he went to a Muslim country, he would have no choice but to follow their rules and local customs. I agree with this 100%. Its just so sad how in the UK, we seem to bend over backwards to push the rights of ethnic groups before our own.

  There are about five million Muslims living in France French MPs have voted by a massive majority to ban the Islamic headscarf and all other overt religious symbols from state schools. The bill was passed by 494 votes to 36. It now goes to the upper house, the Senate, for approval. The wearing of Jewish skullcaps, large Christian crosses and probably Sikh turbans would also be banned. About 70% of French people back the controversial law - and even 40% of Muslim women, according to some polls. Most French MPs backed the bill on the grounds that it protected the secularity of the French state, by keeping religion out of the classroom. 'Intolerant' The bill also has the guarded backing of one of the highest authorities in Sunni Islam - the Grand Sheikh of Egypt's al-Azhar mosque. Speaking after meeting French Interior Minister Nicholas Sarkozy in Cairo in December, Mohammed Sayed Tantawi said Muslim women may ignore the obligation to wear a headscarf if the law where they lived demanded so. Reaction in UK schools But some French MPs, backed by Muslim leaders and rights groups, warn the proposed law could be seen as intolerant and undermine the integration of France's Muslims. Already, the prospect of the new law has squandered much of the goodwill President Jacques Chirac built up in Muslim countries when he opposed the war in Iraq, says the BBC's Caroline Wyatt in Paris. Saudi Arabia's top cleric has accused the proposed French law of violating the human rights it claims to be defending. The Indian government has reportedly told France to handle the ban with "sensitivity" and the issue may well be raised during this week's visit by French Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin. India is home to the Sikh faith, whose male followers are required to keep their long hair wrapped in a turban. Protests There have been protests against the law in India and amongst France's 7,000 strong Sikh community. The International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights has also warned the French government against the ban, as has US-based advisory group, the Commission on International Religious Freedom. Some French MPs claim young Muslim women are being forced to wear the headscarf, though the few hundred who have turned out for demonstrations against the new law say they wear it of their own free will. Unspoken in this entire debate is the government's need to boost its own popularity, and combat a rise in support for the far-right National Front, ahead of key regional elections next month, Caroline Wyatt says.

  " we've all heard the "dent in a pan = dent in the cakes" illustration countless times over by the society and, for that matter, by a number of fundamentalist christians.

  but, there is an enormous problem with this line of reasoning.

  Such reasoning just illustrates the absolute lunacy of the original doctrine and the great lengths one must go to to make the Eden myth fit the modern world.

  i read somewhere that in 324, constantine decided that literal christianity was to be the offical religion of the roman empire.

  could anyone point me to an author or book that describes how and why this happened.

  also, does anyone have any information on how the current 66 bible books were chosen over the many books that were discarded.. thanks.
