  i was a jw about 15 years ago and have been reading these forums for a while.

  it took a long time to get over the fear of armageddon for sure.

  my 18 year old is still a jw (we live at opposit ends of the world) and i have found your information really useful as i am preparing some kind of telephone 'presentation', as it were, regarding jw beliefs and the difference between jw and the other christian churches and what the message of jesus was.

  my name is joel i was raised as a jw, dunked at tweleve years old df 'ed at 17, 19, & 21 and then back in at 24 my father was an elder, my mother was the perfect model of subjection.

  four times a week we would all put on our smiles and go to the kingdom hall the book study and out in service.

  dressed impecably, and always well prepaired, all seemed as it should be, but at home things were crazy.. im sure that my experance is much like many of yours.

  I may be going to the Sunday meeting again tomorrow.

  Last week was fun.

  An elder approached me after the meeting and said that the persecution that JW's get for their stand is proof that they are true Christians.

  I replied that he must think that David Koresh and the Branch Davidians were of the anointed then because of how they were persecuted as professed Christians.

  "That was political." he said.

  "You may want to rethink gauging who is a true Christian with the persecution barometer, huh?"

  It's so easy; it's silly.

  Orwellian Doublethink is rampant in this WT study.

  Flee.

  Stay and die.

  It's your choice.

  True Christians won't leave their brothers.

  Do what you feel is best.

  We all stand before God for our actions.

  It's like a tennis match...

  ...minus the cute, white skirts.

  yes, i too have wondered how an assembly that is held in a fully paid for assembly hall, with no food service, could possibly have $10,000 in expenses.

  i suppose the bethel speakers have transportation expenses - maybe $1000 or so.

  as for rent on the assembly hall, well you have already paid for it once, why pay again?

  That's pretty much how it started appearing to me when I wsa counting up the numbers. I started asking the brothers why things cost so much. Never got any good answers.

  ok, so armageddon didn't come before the generation of 1914 grew old and died.

  but does that mean that the big a isn't near?

  I'm weighing in w/Lisa & Nuomenom on the WTS reasoning.

  & Min, I understand where you are coming from. I would think the same thing that you stated. But keep in mind that you & both yearned to be free from the WTS iron grip over our minds & sprituality. Most of the R&F aren't ready to think for themselves.

  I can hear some of my loyal dub friends now say;

  "Wow, isn't it wonderful how smart the brothers at Bethel are? I would have never been able to figure that out myself. It's a true blessing that we have the GB to direct us in these last days."

  And keep in mind Min that the artile isn't saying that it will come for a certainty in 2034. It can come tomorrow, or a year from now, but NO LATER than 2034.

  And the point brought out by gumby and Nos are also true. It's just the first brick in the large wall of propaganda to follow in the future. The WTS is just laying the foundation for the hype to come. Otherwise with just this alone, the "Do More by '34" will never get any legs to run with.

  And sorry guys, you can't change your theory and say "Well, they're giving UP to 31 years"

  The R&F know that it will come tomorrow.

  Min, i'm glad to see that you are having such a hard time grasping this and have been cured of the WTS mindset.

  I fully concur w/dmouse.

  The WTS is floating an idea to the R&F. they need an expiration date on the ‘end is soon’ BS. Then, when it fails, only the ‘old timers’ will remember the build-up to the “Do More by ‘34” campaign and some will leave. The newbies in the Troof at the at time will again say that some just read too much into it not knowing the past history; just like 1975.

  Read back to 1966- 1968 pubs. The ‘idea’ was floated just like this. There will be clarifications on the subject in a ‘Q’s from Readers’, then a special symposium at the District Convention. Maybe a new release down the road in a few years, a focused study program that will replace the ‘Knowledge’ book to get baptized in 6 months, etc…

  It’s the same game plan that gets played for every generation of JW’s. I’m glad I’m on my way out with my loved ones. This made my Monday. It’s completely laughable.

  Some think it’s not written with this intention, and that’s fine. But if these same ones think that not one of the R&F will glom into this and ride it, then I wonder if maybe they have been out too long to forget the mindset of the typical, desperate, R&F JW.

  Great job of keeping your composure while discussing with the active JW's the WTS' v acillating and fluid beliefs.

  That one poor young dub, how he/she was crying. It's saddens my heart that a mind can be so wrapped up in propaganda.

  Hopefully you reached some hearts and planted some seeds of truth about the Troof!

  well, the best thing about being a fader is that you can still talk to dubs you meet.

  they think they can us the contact to upbuild you and you use it to plant the seeds of 'truth' which is what i did in this situation.. last week when i was at the markets i saw a sister shopping and although i normally avoid dubs, i didn't this time.

  i said hello and she was very happy to speak to me.

  kindom hall "clicks"

  when i was a jw a was lucky enough to be in a hall with a "click" you know the type.

  they all hung out together.

  went to quickbuilds together and ensured that they were the ones with power in the hall.. i remember trying to join the quickbuild team as a 14 year old, only to be asked by the elder in charge of it (and allso in charge of the click), what building qualifications i had!.

  there's a great example of how ignorant jws are in the november 8th awake (oil: will it ever run out).. on the letters page: (the writer is from the ukraine, so i *hope* something's been lost in the translation... but why would they print it if it was?).
