Sing Dirges to Jehovah?
by donny inback in 1985 my then-wife and i were having a lunchtime "gathering" at our place to show some support to the ones in our congregation who were full-time pioneers.
i had just recently received the vinyl collection of the songs featured in the song book "sing praises to jehovah" which had been released the previous year.. .
many of these melodies sounded depressing to me although i would have never admitted it at the time.

Oh Data-Dog you really had me there, my husband had to cover his ears, for I was laughing so hard!!!!
Like losingit I did like the orchestral version (I *ahum* must admit that I listened to those cassettes very often... *looks embarrassed* ). But overall most of the songs were depressing and very much like military marches (but my dad always loved march music, so I did happen to like those kind of songs since I grew up with all kinds of military songs... of which I didn't have a clue that they were military of course and I doubt if my father ever understood that... and my dad is a German *oh gosh, this feels like i'm making it worse with every word I type* hahahaha)
Anyway, thanks for putting back those songs back in my head (not really thankful... aaaaargh!!!)... even reading the English words brought up the Dutch words to several songs again.... (Let op hoe je gaat en ook hoe je staat, wees wijs en waakzaam te allen tijd... deeeeeeeee gelegen tijd uitkopend, daaaaar de dagen god'loos zijn....)
Muchas gracias...
De nada....
My dad used to play the organ in the KH as well. So at home we were taught how to play them too... in fact, the only book I've kept was the songbook... Must still have it somewhere... My brother is even on YouTube playing some of the "Kingdom Melodies"... Oh well, I think I'll go and memorize the new lyrics Data-Dog has provided....
HAHAHAHAHAHA Data-Dog you're hilarious, really! HAHAHAHA

Are Men's Rights Laughable?
by Paralipomenon inreading over the woody allen thread i noticed a couple things but didn't want to side track the "discussion".
1) woody allen is creepy.
2) nobody really seemed to care that his ex-wife was abusive towards her children.. an example i think is perfect was the release of twilight where you would see lineups of 30-40 year old women making very inappropriate comments about a 16 year old boy.

JW. org: "No, we are not a cult. We do not look to any human as our leader."
by Faithful Witness ini know this has been rehashed, time and again, but i saw this interesting blip on jw.org last night, and did a little thinking about it.... jw.
org answers the important question that so many have... are jehovah's witnesses a cult?.
jehovah's witnesses do not look to any human as their leader.

My husband has lost his son thanks to a vindictive ex-wife who accused him of physical abuse, which never happened, and even the judge didn't buy into it (she made stories up right in front of the judge and within half an hour she added so much BS to it that he said something like "sorry m'am, but don't you find that hard to believe yourself? Your stories get extremer by the minute"). But even though the court was on the side of my husband, he never got to see his son again for nearly nine years now. His ex did the exact same thing with the daughters from her previous marriage. Took them away from their father for eight years and made one of them accuse her father for sexual abuse. Which of course also never happened and she knew it. Some women just get plain evil when they are jealous or angry with an ex-husband... especially when the ex-husband moves on with another woman.

I need to help to counter JW misinformation!
by Island Man inin this yahoo answers quesiton jw apologists are trying to give the impression that the watchtower never published any information about parents fondling the genitals of their infants leading to masturbation later on.
the jw apologists claims vary from saying it's not true to accusing the questioner and one ex-jw answerer of not having proof and being untrustworthy with the truth.. i want to provide proof to the contrary but the online library doesn't go have magaizes as far back as 1973 when the article was published.
i think that the best proof would be a screenshot of the watchtower library open to the article with the statement highlighted.

Ok, couldn't resist, so I've been searching on the internet for info and came up with this:
Apparantly there are cultures where this kind of behaviour happened. I don't think it's normal, but who knows if I was born in Japan? *scratching my head right now... how normal am I????*
Add: a forum where they discuss the subject... for whomever is interested => http://message.snopes.com/showthread.php?t=82113

Haha, my husband thinks I was a looker at that time (he was my boyfriend in 1985, but as a non-JW he got his butt kicked by my dad)... I even received a postcard from that Bethelite not long after he returned to Brooklyn, he was really serious in trying to get me over, but shortly after that I met my first husband (son of an elder in a congregation nearby)... so, well, before I new it I was married (within a year) and shortly after pregnant. Yeah yeah, so much for the life of a JW-girl... destined to be a mother, wife and preferably auxiliary pioneer... pffff
Soooo glad I'm out and back with my first and true love!
When you write a second book I'll be sure to buy that one too, you've got a great style of story telling!

Shows again how sick they are, because IMHO someone that is stroking the genitals of a baby, with any other purpose than to clean before putting on a new diaper, is a pedophile... I have never EVER heard of this ridiculous way to calm or quiet a baby!!! Completely insane!

Brock, I've been reading ALL your Bethel-stories today here on JWN... It's such an eye opener. Thanks to Ray Franz I already knew that the whole 'Bethel'-thing is a fairytale and nothing like what most JW's think it is, but all the things you've shared here...wow! Thank you for all the effort you've put into writing it down and I'm definitely going to buy your book!
Your stories reminded me of a brother who also lived at Bethel Brooklyn. He came on holiday to the Netherlands once, in april 1986. I can recall the exact month, since I was just baptized that year in february and auxiliary pioneering for the first time... and I had a boyfriend in our congregation who was so terribly jealous, because I had a nice chat with that brother from America... He invited me to visit Bethel Brooklyn and I really wanted to and the boyfriend nearly freaked out only by the thought of me going to America!
I never visited Bethel, not in Holland, not in Amerika. And reading your stories and the experiences of others here on JWN I'm actually glad I never did.
Thanks again for sharing your experiences.
add: before you ask: I got rid of the boyfriend within two weeks after that...
