  Yeah, they could change their doctrine if they shrink considerably. For example, they could apply to themselves the passage about the love of the greater number cooling off and say they are just beginning to realize how great that number is. They could say they're paralleling the flood situation in which only a handful of people survived out of the whole population.

  We know they change their doctrine to fit the situation. For example, we saw them change the "generation" doctrine in 1995 after the previous one was shown to be wrong.

  ThomasMore, I totally agree with all of your post.

  They are exposed now and cannot reverse the tide of bad PR, out of court settlements, dying old-timers and fading young ones. Even without the confusing doctrines that change more rapidly than members can digest, their brand looks like a documentary waiting to be made on failed religions.

  For years on this site, there's been talk of JWdom's continuing to exist indefinitely but shrinking down to a very small group of hardcore believers. I just don't see how that could happen because JW doctrine doesn't allow for that as does the doctrine of other groups who shrink and continue to exist.

  JW doctrine is and has been based largely on end-times predictions of expansion and a great witnessing work - a covering of the earth with a bold witnessing work . How could JWdom shrink to a much smaller group with a puny preaching/warning work? That just can't fit JW doctrine; doctrine would have to be changed to allow for that.

  why are we interested in what is going on in the JW

  for the most of us, we have left the jws...and even though we are no longer jw, many of us are still interested in their beliefs, doctrines and practices as currently practiced.

  i was trying to sort out in my mind why i still care about what they are doing.

  i think the answer to that is a hope that something will develop in the jws that will wake up a lot of others, and selfishly, a lot of my friends.

  People are interested in all sorts of things - fictional and nonfictional. They are interested in and discuss many things from Game of Thrones to quantum physics.

  JWdom affected some of us greatly; for some of us, it was our lives for decades. Some of us were extremely negatively affected by it. I think it's natural for one to be interested in something that played such a big role in his life. Hell, I'm still interested in the goings-on at my old high school.

  In addition, the JWdom situation is real life. Observing the goings-on in JW land is a study in human nature, psychology, sociology, law, justice, religion, etc.

  Also, I hate deception, phoniness, stupidity, self-righteousness, condescension, lies, corruption, unreasonableness, etc, and such abound in JW land. I have a strong sense of justice, and I love to see justice administered. I am eager to see it weaken and to see the reactions of the org as a whole and individual JWs.

  And one more thing... the cult still has all my family members except my wife. The fact that some of us still have family in is further reason to be interested.

  i was out on the ministry(tm) in the 1980's when i was pie-on-earring.

  i was only a lowly publisher(tm) being coached by a rather odd elder(tm).. one of the publications(tm) had recently mentioned japan and the growth(tm) of jws there.. the elder(tm), brother(tm) i was with offered the magazines(tm) to the householder(tm).. then he stated, 'there are (gave the reported numbers at the time.

  i can't remember the number he stated), jehovah's witnesses(tm) in japan.'.

  Also embarrassed by the JWs who would insist on ostentatiously saying a group prayer before a meal in a restaurant.

  That embarrassed me, too. Also, one time, a group prayer was said in a small hospital waiting room; it was really awkward and embarrassing.

  That is an interesting observation. It used to be, when I was at my peak of zeal as a JW, that the org seemed to really care about the preaching work, about deeper doctrinal analysis, etc. Then it changed. The leaders, it seems, began to realize the game was over, and they entered survival mode.

  Now, the org is simply reactive and no longer proactive. It no longer cares about the preaching work in the sense that it cares about bringing people in for good reasons. Now, the purpose of the preaching work is just to keep the flock under control and to give JWs the appearance that the work is continuing as normal.

  So, now, the org is just concerned about PR, survival, marketing, defending itself legally, etc. The old JWdom is gone. Morris is, as you indicated, is a product of the old JWdom.

  From now on, I think the org will look for the more low-key types like Cook (or Cooke?) and Fleegle (or Flagle or whatever his name is).

  baal peor, hadad, chemosh, molech/milkom dagon, etc.

  it is therefore surprising that the main deity of the sister nation to the south, edom is never mentioned.

  Oh, the crickets from me were unintentional; I just saw this. I'm EXTREMELY interested in this kind of material. In fact, I'm going to save this page for future reference. I'm going to try to look at all the info tonight (just skimmed it - at work now). I think some of us don't realize how many people see and are benefitted by what we post.

  I take note of material like this, book recommendations, etc. that I see on this site. Thanks much!

  Anthony Moriss nervous breakdowns and Bethel stress!

  so karl klien of the governing body gave his life story in the watchtower talking about his stress, nervous breakdowns and pressure to take the lead.

  it was aweful.

  maybe anthony had the same problem..

  I skimmed through that old thread about Karl Klein. It was interesting; I want to read it completely later.

  Maybe Anthony had the same problem.

  Interesting, but I don't really see evidence of that. He seemed overconfident, too sure of himself; in fact, he seemed downright satisfied and arrogant. He seemed to love his position and to revel in it.

  I'm leaning more towards something alcohol related and/or his being a loose canon and going off script too much and contributing to the waking up of the drones.

  It means nothing. The world still spins and JWs will carry on as usual.
  Everybody should just get on with life and stop obsessing over trivialities like this religion.

  It means a great deal to me. JWdom is a cult that stole virtually my entire life. I lived in misery for decades because of it. All my family members are still in, and, as a result, I have zero relationship with them. It is natural for people like me to be interested in the goings-on in JW land.

  
  Actually, there are a lot of things that "mean nothing" that people are interested in; do you tell them to stop being interested in such? Are humans supposed to just be interested in survival? Are we to just work and eat and sleep and not be interested in things that don't relate to our survival? Are we not to watch movies, read Shakespeare, or be interested in things that "mean nothing"?

  
  The truth is that you mean nothing to me. I know nothing about you and couldn't care less what you think. I have vastly more interest in what happens to Tony Morris than what you have to say.

  How did it come to this?

  i am now in my early 60’s.

  i was baptized in 1980. i served as a ministerial servant and an elder.

  i gave my all for many years but about eight years ago i started to question many things.

  Your situation seems very similar to mine. We are about the same age, were baptized around the same time, and both served as MS & elder. I also gave it my all for many years and and was/am disturbed by the things you mentioned.

  I often think about the fact that we're in the 2020's. It was inconceivable in the 1980's that "this system" would go beyond 2000 and, really, even 1994 (80yrs from 1914). I think we tend to forget what the JW mindset was back then. Back in the late 80's or early 90's, A JW friend told me of a nonJW he knew who was planning to make money on the Olympics that were scheduled to be held in Atlanta in 1996 (by selling T-shirts). That JW friend and I laughed because we thought "this system" would be gone by then. There was no way those Olympics games would ever occur.

  Well, about the year 2016, I was sent to Florida to do some work for a few days. On the way back, I was heading toward the state of Georgia on an interstate highway. As I got almost to the Georgia border, I saw a "Welcome to Georgia" sign. At the bottom was "Home of the 1996 Olympics." It hit me hard. It was 20 years, not beyond our laughing at the guy for wanting to make money, but 20 years beyond the Olympic Games themselves. At that point in time, those Olympics that we thought would never occur were old news. Thinking of that depressed me.

  It is now 20-damned-23. JWs were wrong - black and white wrong. We weren't supposed to be here now. If in, for example, the 1980's, a JW had persisted in saying that this system would still be here in 2020, he would have been disfellowshipped.

  "These brothers mean well."

  I think most of them mean well, too, however, so do many people in other religions. Even though they mean well, they are lacking in something. They don't have the "three H's" that JWs sometimes refer to (hunger, honesty, humility) to a degree large enough to allow them to see the real truth and leave the cult. They might be lacking in well-rounded intelligence. Sure, I know some who have intelligence, but it takes well-rounded intelligence to see the real truth. Many are delusional. And, even though they mean well, they are condescending. They think they are in a high place and are stooping down to pull us out of the depths were are in. To them, we are either weak or evil or some combination of the two.

  I probably differ from you in the feelings I have towards the cult and those still in. I wish JWdom were what I thought it was in the 1980's. I miss the feelings of security, the hope for the future, etc. However, I detest the org now, and I have little sympathy for any who support it. The evidence mounts against it daily. I repeat what I've already stated... those who are still in (the adults) are flawed in some way. There's no way an honest, intelligent person, who really loves truth could not see something majorly wrong with the GB, the failed predictions, the dumbing down, the decrease in literature, the weakening ministry, etc.

  It's going to be interesting to watch the cult over the next few years to see what happens to it.
