i know several older retired witnesses who comolain abiut how little social security pays.
all of them made more than i ever did but were self employed.
they fudged the amount t they reported on taxes and thought they would never get old.
hybridous, thanks for the response. My wife and I literally everyday say we wish we had awakened in our teens. If we had, we would be retired now. However, we both have to work fulltime with no retirement prospects, and will have to work until we drop.
We didn't awaken and leave until we were mid 50's. We suffered greatly while in and will suffer the rest of our lives because of having been in.

I watched part of the video (it was referred to in this post: https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/5172728314200064/interview-going-viral). The interviewer says that he is not a JW, but that his mother is.

hybridous, I am one of those who was burned because I believed at the time that JWs had "the truth" and I lived accordingly - as if the end of the world were imminent and billions of lives were at stake. Did you ever believe it?

why do they show the black goat in the picture?
I don't think there's anything underhanded, either; it's just odd to me. The thing is so prominent in the frame. I do think it's intentional as is every molecule atom in JW photos and videos. They might be trying to indicate "Oh, look this is Africa where they have unique animals. We JWs are so worldwide."

OK, at first, I thought, "well, it is Angola, so maybe they're just displaying wildlife native to the area." But, then I got to thinking "this is weird, anyway." JWs are known for analyzing pics and such for minute details, and the org has always seemed to pay meticulous attention to everything in every photo and video. I heard a female superdub comment during a Watchtower study one time about the way a person's feet were aimed in an illustration in the study article.
The goaty thingy is extremely prominent in the frame and draws the eye and becomes the focus. The glossy black horns are so prominent against the whitish background. Weird.

I don't get what you're saying here. "One of the articles" in JW literature? 'Opened your eyes' in what way? The "truth" about what?
Are you saying that after initially thinking JWdom was wrong, you 'had your eyes opened' and changed your mind?
I'm not asking this in a challenging way; I just really want to know what you mean, and I welcome your point of view even if I disagree with it.

tiki, I think the point he's making is that JWs think that such things only happen in JWdom, but as the OP and inbetween09 indicate, those things don't just happen in JWdom. JW literature implies that such changes of heart, etc. only occur in the org because of its teachings, the atmosphere of "love", etc.
I read in the past few years about a white supremacist who was raised and indoctrinated as such who, after having dealings with blacks, realized he was wrong and had a complete change of head & heart. Had nothing to do with JWs or the Bible.
look at the new york post online today and watch the videos of mayhem and destruction to the city with fires all over manhattan.
the police vehicles are being destroyed and torched and the rioting just goes on and on.. i regularly went to nyc sometimes once a month for years.
now, who on earth would want to go to this hellhole??.

i never, ever thought i would ever be posting on a board such as this but here i am.
i've been reading the boards for several months and despite my initial conscience twinges, i couldn't help but follow a logical thought process on many issues that were causing me grief.
over this past week, due to the things i've read on here, i've had a massive cloud lift from me and i'm starting to feel joy and love in my heart that i've *never* felt before.
Love has nothing to do with it. The JW religion ruined my life with wrong predictions and advice. Love won't remove the crazy, doctrinally inept history of the JW religion. If you're now all about love, then tell me how a loving god could allow all the horror that has gone on for millions of years and is going on now.
Cats are being boiled alive in a market in Asia. Raccoons are being skinned alive (I've seen the video). Can you, in your new "love" frame of mind give me an answer for that?
