Challenge to Athiests - is Religion a Pox on Mankind?
by jgnat ini've spent the last few years examining my core beliefs to test what still stands.
i've let go of an inviolate bible, demoted jesus to a failed prophet, and god as unable to act against injustice.
our universe made itself.

COC & ISOCF - (for believers) -what DON'T you agree with raymondo about?
by Captain Blithering inhi all, i'm halfway through isocf having finished coc recently..
i'm still in, not sure what i believe anymore, but along the christian viewpoint, uncle ray makes a lot of sense to me.
so are there any contrary viewpoints out there, any points ray made that can be argued against or that you find hard to swallow?

the rules written and unwritten-CB
Unwritten rules are the problem in society today. In religious organisations and the work environment. There is nepotism and favouritsm everywhere, and for us guys on the spectrum, unwritten rules are not logical compared to the written rules.
So although I believe in God, I have decided to steer clear of religious organisations. Building a new circle of friends locally is challenging. But I don't feel safe enough to enter, a Church, Synagogue or Mosque.
I am looking forward to your next update CB
Thanks Kate xx

" the universe made itself " but---
by prologos inwatching the fertilization of an ovum and subsequent cell division it appears that the new being is making itself.
parents were involved, unskilled labor, time, energy.
no thing has ever been observed to make itself, to my knowledge.

Autistic spectrum? I am detecting it.-WMF
LOL! I detect it a lot, but apparantly it is socially unaccepable to tell people they have ASD. I don't understand why, but many have a bad reaction. Kate xx

Ok, now I know why you atheists get so spittin' mad at some believers.
by Julia Orwell incuz they feel like they're banging their heads against a wall.. i don't really fall into the category of atheist or believer, but i'll go where the facts lead me.
that generally leads to atheism, and is why atheists end up getting mad and therefore rude at believers: they will lay out facts, raise questions, play devil's advocate, and reason in an evidence-based, structured way.
i've seen it many times before on this forum.

I'm not an atheist if you must know.-Julia
Yes I already knew, from your other posts on this and other forums. Kate xx

Phizzy Said this......And I am afraid I disagree
by KateWild ini still find it strange that believers cannot get it in to their heads that atheism is not a belief, but theism is.
there cannot possibly be proof "for" the atheistic position as it is simply a position that says i see no proof for a god.. if someone says there are pink unicorns with purple spots and i say i have never seen any proof of their existence, i cannot offer proof of my "position", the onus is 100% upon the spotted unicorn guy to prove their existence to me.
simple.. where the frustration enters in for us non-unicornists is when the unicornists expect us to listen to inane arguments , non facts and plain nonsesnse and then go along with their delusion.

not easy to explain in Evolutionary terms, in a way that will satisfy biased Kate. LOL-phizzy
That made me smile, but I would say scientific terms as a whole. Evolution is just one arm of science. There are many. Thanks for popping in to check on us kids. I hope you can praise me for my civility when you come back.

So in conclusion, well for now anyway.............
I believe in God, my beliefs stem from faith, I am not some blind follower. I do not have any dellusional idea's about God. Science confirms my bias. We are all bias. And I agree with Einstein when he said
"SCIENCE WITHOUT RELIGION IS LAME, RELIGION WITHOUT SCIENCE IS BLIND"

should be based on logic, facts, or personal experience and observervations, not based on whether or not someone else of stature believed or not.-TT2C
I have expressed my experience and observations on this thread now, in post number 924.

Atheism is a belief. To say it is not is an attempt at obfuscation by turning the discussion into word games.-Oub

So I'm actually pretty comfortable with my grasp of Einstein's expressed views on the subject.-Adam
Me too, we just grasp his views differently. You confirm your bias, and I confirm mine Kate xx

Abiogenesis - moving on from the Urey Miller Experiment
by cantleave inabiogenesis is the field of study whereby the answers to how the chemistry of life was initiated are explored.
unlike evolution, which is described and understood via a number of falsifiable models which explain the observations made in the natural world, most models of abiogenesis will remain unfalsifiable and hence open to debate.
the issue being of course that the conditions under which those first chemical reactions occurred no longer exist and trying to recreate an approximation of these in the lab requires a great deal patience, ingenuity and of course some intelligent guess work!
