One sister commented about the Iron curtain being in Berlin. The Study conductor did not correct her, I was horrified and at the end of the meeting confirmed with my kids the difference between the iron curtain and the Berlin wall and which was in Russia and Germany.

i've seen elders over the years openly flaunt "the rules", butt-kiss (the co especially), show favoritism and appoint brothers they like and not appoint brothers that should of been appointed for some trivial reason.
many lord their "power" over the friends in blatant violation of scriptures and watchowers that specifically say that they shouldn't lord themselves over the flock.
they pretty much do what they want!
I have been a member in two different congs. In each body there were a small fraction, one or two, of elders that were really genuine and wanted to help. All the others did things for personal gain and power to lord it over others. Anyone with a strong internal sense of justice was reigned in and generally called out as being rebellious.
To be elder material many need to be suck ups to the CO and all current elders.

what specifically made you stop believing in god and the bible?
was it a steady road of doubts or it was reading one book or one major event that made you realize the bible was not what it's claimed to be?.

I have stopped believing the Bible is inspired and from God. First I disagreed with the scripture at 1Cor 14: 34,35
, 34 let the women keep silent in the congregations, for it is not permitted for them to speak.+ Rather, let them be in subjection,+ as the Law also says. 35 If they want to learn something, let them ask their husbands at home, for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the congregation.
Then after reading some posts on JWN, I listened to Bart Erhman's promotional video, promoting his book "Misquoting Jesus".

I found that reading the bible account of Jesus' resurrection was evidence for me that the bible is not consistent, therefore cannot be from God.
I do still believe in a creator though, science gives me enough evidence to support a guided process that requires an intelligent creator.

i stayed home sick from work the other day and noticed a car group pull up to my neighbor's house.
she's a stay-at-home mom.
i decided it was time to retrieve something from my truck to see if i could recognize the visiting sisters.
I've thought about giving a return visit the link to jwfacts but then I also wondered if the return visit asks the dubs visiting them some of the issues they read about and get answers that satisfy them (even if they're crap answers) it may speed up their indoctrination instead of stopping it.- TheListener
I think this is highly unlikely, they will see the comparisons between the sites and know WT is a cult. If they have been love bombed they won't even read jwfacts.com. Recruitment is an emotional process, if the householder is not emotionally invested they will respond to what jwfacts.com says. If they are already friends with the JWs the householder will not entertain anything else, it's too late then.

I would weigh this up carefully, after all it is happening on your doorstep. You don't want bad relationships with your nieghbours. I would sugesst to her to look up jwfacts.com in conjunction with jw.org. She may find it useful to look at both sites and compare.
I think that just telling her about a website can be less intrusive and if she wants to ask you about your experience you can be more personal at a later stage.

but read this reviews presented on cult news about steve hassan's books, and it's up to you make your own opinion about the video.
Interesting thread, Enzo I don't think you grasp what Hassan is trying to do. I found his book easy to read and very helpful.
I don't understand why you think he is not credible and why the BITE model is not useful.

After watching the heartfelt video, it's easy to conclude this father is sincere and intelligent. He has done plenty of research and wants the best for his son right now.
The fact he is a JW in this case has no bearing in my mind. I am no medical expert but as a parent we know when our kids are doing well or not. This father clearly feels his son is doing better now that he is off the ward.
I feel for their circumstances and my heart goes out to him.

a friend of mine (who has recently started reading jwn) is having trouble eating and sleeping because, even after having recently woken up to ttatt.. they are still concerned about 'demons, everlasting destruction, and jehovahs disapproval'.. i've tried to encourage them.
i'm sure you all understand that these things can take time, the transition period is often painful, to some extent.
i'm still struggling with anger and depression myself.. i'll be away from jwn, off the internet, and thus out of contact with them for a while (don't ask why)... so please don't expect me to reply to or even look at what you post, .
My personal experience is that the Dfing and RI'ing process is not from the Bible. I addition what is says in 1cor 14:34,35 about women being silent is a load of nonsense...it just means we can't expose wrong doing in the congregation.

i first posted here on 3rd june 2008. at the time i was an elder, appointed the previous october, i was 36 and i was a born-in.
at the time i'd become disillusioned with the society due to the governing body's letter explaining why the book study in private homes was being abolished.
april 2008 saw me start questioning this decision, privately of course, and this eventually led me to this site, to jwfacts and to many youtube videos, all of which began to errode my faith in the leaders of the organisation.. in july 2008, having discussed my doubts with my wife, i attended the district convention, deciding to give the society one last chance to convince me it was the truth.
