it has been a good 8 years away from my area, a good 10 years + since i was regularly at meetings.
a good 12 years since i was hesitantly active.. it is a slow process but it does happen.
i now feel no connection to the belief system beyond memories.
Hi nice to see you again Snare. It's so nice to hear happy stories. You have taken positive steps with your life and feel the benefits. Sadly though I don't think it's that easy. I wouldn't say that I miss anything about WT or individual JWs, but leaving when your divorced, df'd and 41, is hard. Rebuilding a new life has all sorts of challenges.
Giving up my career to pioneer was the biggest regret I have. It has been hard to rebuild from there. I am happy for you Snare. Well done.

You're getting a bit extreme there to make your point. Sorry I don't buy into it totally, although it is possible that people are born with faith and keep it. But who really cares anyway.
I think that lurkers and newbies need to know that there are many healthy ways to go when you leave WT, and that believing in God is not necessarily a bad path.

i was just thinking back to the first time i found this awesome forum...years before i eveni joined up and starting posting myself.. i was so encouraged and happy to see that i was not alone!
i was not the only one who was observing the org, and all of its aspects and thinking "seriously?
When I first came to this site it was a great. I could let off steam about WT articles and answer truthfully how I felt. It really filled a need.
I found some of the posters a bit harsh and blunt but got used to it. Some were a little wacky too.
But now it's a place for support and where I find I can support others too.

Well I am not sure I actually believe this study. I was brought up by Jewish parents and went to a Jewish day school. My parents are agnostic and atheist. As a child I was very interested in God and religious education. My religious leaders and peers encouraged free thinking and exploring atheism during religious sessions.
My brother was not interested, but I was and have always had some type of faith although it has changed over the years.
To call people victims is derogatory cofty, and although I would not class myself as a theist, I am inclined to feel you are baiting some posters into a debate on a study that is not conclusive or recognised.
Some people are happy believing and are not harming anyone.

It was really nice that you were bought groceries when you were sick. But they count it all as time. I genuinely cared when I was a JW and I still genuinely care.
You will have to suppress your personality and your true self if you ever get baptised. You will never have a partner unless you go straight.
It was the kindness that got me in too, but it was the lack of love that opened my eyes when I needed it most.

1) 1) though some of the things bible said may have gone wrong (most of which would not even touch our day-to-day lives), the worst thing it foretold (which very much affects our day-today-lives) has come true: people will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world.
(luke 21:26).
I don't really know what point you're trying to make. Are you trying to discredit science with your calculations? If so your calculations are based on assumptions that have no proof.
I believe in god and in science. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Welcome to the site. As you can see you have three pages worth of responses warning you about this cult. You did the right thing to find out some independent information about keeping records. But there is much more you can find out from independent sources such as jwsurvey.org and jwfacts.com.

I enjoyed watching the video. There were a few technical hitches that made the experience less enjoyable. I like'd the fact that he had 10-12 JWs listening to him discuss the NGO status of WT in the UN. He brought up other things too which was good.
I thought it was very calm and respectful the way he approached the brothers and he wasn't bitter and angry at individuals.

Sorry to hear you might be getting df'd. It is very isolating. All the positive advice you have got on this thread I have tried. Has it worked yet? Not for me.
I still live in hope but I don't have high expectations of getting a circle of true friends. Posters make it sound easy, but the harsh reality is, it takes time to build lasting friendships.
