Britain Branch Construction - UPDATE

definitely something going in the london bethel.. i thought i'd ask them again (and record it again) what the situation was regarding the new britain branch construction work.. i got the same sister (debbie) and here is how the conversation went: .

me: i've been told that construction of the new branch has been stopped - is this true?.

debbie: no, it has not ceased, it's carrying on as normal - can i ask where you're calling from?.

My Mom Is Dying

i just wanted to say that my dear 89 year old mom is terminally ill and will soon pass.

she is on morphine and hanging on.

she has been a devout witness for about 60 years and a wonderful mother.

you will already be wondering about a number of aspects of jw doctrine and how they stack up against reason, logic and modern scientific evidence.

if so, then i appeal to you to meditate and reason on one implication arising from the latest news that the next publication will be a simplified version of an already simplified book.

How are you doing?

Your post has an heir of frustration in it. Do you feel trapped and isolated? When we wake people up we need to be gentle and loving. Some of your words are a bit stronger than that and might be mistaken for a bitter apostate.

I understand it must be hard to live in WT world when you know TTATT, I did it for 9 months and could do it no more.

Waking JWs up is only one step of freeing them. Once we wake we need to support them in leading happy lives. A few on here know TTATT and are trapped in WT. They need our encouragement to plan a happy future for themselves and their children if they have them.

It's interesting you didn't want to let them know you were a former JW. You handled them in a completely different way to me. Perhaps I will try your approach.

I normally tell them my story and am up front and honest about everything. I do get some sincere and loving responses from many trolley pioneers too.

do any of you ex-jw's still believe in god?

even with the new rebranding/softening of this religion, i still don't see how people can believe in him.

the god of the old testimate is an angry murderer who approved rapes and slavery and killed thousands of men, women and children.

For anybody who is wondering what we are on about - The building blocks of life can be found in two distinct types that are mirror images of each other. Imagine having a bucket of lego bricks where half were of a slightly different sort.
A scientist called Soai showed that originally living things could have been made from both sorts of "lego bricks" and that a very slight surplus of one sort would arise through normal chance. A bit like throwing heads or tails 5 times in a row. - cofty

I like the way you described it. Well done. But normally when talking in layman's terms we would describe enantionmers as being the same molecule but a mirror image just like a left and right hand. Using lego can slightly distract from the fact that they are in fact the same molecule.

They have all the same properties and when formed in the lab the left and right hand form a racemic mixture which is 50% of each enantiomer or stereo isomer. Soai did not show that in nature there is a racemic mixture. This is an incorrect statement you made cofty. Sorry.

Soai showed that an auto catalyst was involved in order for a majority of left handed molecules only were formed in nature. This is not like throwing heads five time in a row, it's like throwing heads a million times in a row. The L-enantiomer in nature is not a slight surplus it's a huge majority. This is called a homochiral mixture.

Cofty you said all this means there is no magic involved. This statement is strawman and has no substance. You said you can prove God does not exist. How have you proved this to me?

I am not saying it's magic, I am saying an auto catalyst is evidence of guidance.

Then the question is as meaningless as whether there is a teapot orbiting Mars.-cofty

Lol Occam's Razor eh?

My perspective is that it is more probable a creator is responsible for guiding evolution than l-enantiomers forming in nature without any guidance. Chemistry supports my beliefs.

Yes of course we can- cofty

No you haven't been able to prove to me with evidence that a creator was not responsible for guiding evolution and especially the formation of enantiomers. The Soai reaction is not substantial evidence it just proves that in nature there is an auto catalyst. This is really evidence of guidance rather than chance formation.

How the college educated/employed "weak" JW's will soon be "used"

once these laid off bethelites are released from their duties, where will they go?.

how many will turn to their "spiritually weak" families for a place to live, a meal or financial aid?

the ones who have been criticized over the years for attending college and getting a good job may soon become an asset to the ones who have been relieved of their duties .

Good points made by some who say JWs will put it down to Jehovah providing. They keep quiet though if nothing turns up and they end up homeless.
