How do they demonstrate this? Do they communicate or live in families like dolphins? How do you measure the cognitive ability of a cephalopod? Is there an IQ test equivalent like chimps, we know they have an IQ of around 70?

Well nugget is training cantleave. But some days she just can't get through to him. He will be 50 soon I think nugget is aiming for him to have human intelligence by then, he seems to be on track.

yes, i know that someone is going to say that evolution does not encompass this topic and should be sectioned off under abiogenesis.

i'm not trying to argue semantics here but it seems like a case of avoiding an uncomfortable subject.

Shadow, great first post. I missed this 6 months ago. I don't understand the biochemistry as I have only studied chemistry. But I have read about the Miller-Urey experiment before. I have only read two pages so far, but I was stimulated to respond now. I will give a full response after I have read all the facts others have posted.

Actually there has been some amazing progress in the field of abiogenesis. The most interesting ideas IMO relate to alkaline vents under the ocean. I might write up the details when I get time. - cofty

Yeah you told me about that three years ago when I brought up abiogenesis. You obviously haven't had time yet. Looking forward to that thread and the one about Soai's reaction. But take all the time you need. Armageddon is not coming soon.

LUHE, cool about your biology degree, have you thought about teaching in Uni or high school?

By the way Cofty, I have never asked you before but do you have formal qualifications in science? Not that it means anything. I am just interested.

No, you are mistaking non-uniformity with organization.
People think random distribution is clump-free, but it isn't - it only approaches that at huge population sizes (and is rarely perfectly spread). In fact, if things were perfectly distributed it would point to lack of randomization and some order.
People often point to clusters of cancer cases as proof there is some local cause and not just random chance, because they don't understand basic probability theory. - Simon

Oh wow Simon you're good at maths too, I thought non-uniformity was the same as random. And uniformity was the same as organised. I have to admit my understanding of probability is the coin toss experiment you do at school. Something I am interested in though I will look into it.
