well, after a 15 month absence from the kingdom hall, i once again found myself in the biggest kingdom hall of all the district convention.
as in previous years, the material presented was dull and repetitious, so once again, i was forced to provide my own entertainment.
so, like last year, i am pleased to present a further installment to my assembly adventures, called:
absolutely hysterical-almost makes me want to go to a District Convention-almost. Keep it up, we need the laughs.

this happened a few years back in a congregation that i had formerly been associated with.
i moved before i da'd, anyway.
it was in north central wisconsin and the story was in the news.
Nathan,
thanks for the info. I knew John Moore in my life as a JW, attended the same congregation from age 14-18 and then again from 1983-89. I moved and DA'd in 89. I always new John as a nice guy sort of shy and quiet. I never did get the details because my sister (still in) wouldn't share anything that would make the JW's look bad with her DA'd sister, imagine that. At the time I heard the story, the theory was that they did it because of hopelessness. My sister was in denial about that, when I asked her about the maps she just blew it off. Now it sounds like Roberta feels that her husband killed the boys, I personally don't think he is capable of such an act. However, her concern about having her daughter taken to meetings is genuine. I think if she dropped the conspiracy theories, and went to court just on the harmful effects of JW religion on children in general, she may get further. The new children's publication is very dangerous to young minds, as those of us who studied in the Paradise book can attest. I am interested in any other news on the case.

Brummie,
yup, sad, but I wonder what we coud do with it. Back when I heard about it, I would never have conceived of a legacy for those boys. If there is some kind of afterlife, maybe they are waiting. And if not surely something should come of it, other wise the WT is right, when you die you are just gone.

this happened a few years back in a congregation that I had formerly been associated with. I moved before I DA'd, anyway. It was in North Central Wisconsin and the story was in the news. The mother of the boys was disfellowshipped and still married to her active husband. I believe the boys were both under 12 and they had drawn a map on their Watchtower to the place where they eventually killed themselves. The two boys shot themselves. I didn't hear about it for some time after it happened but happened to catch it on the news. It was awful, I knew the family but hadn't seen them in years. Anybody else hear about it? It happened in the Phillips, WI area and perhaps I should do some research on it, could be helpful in future court cases. They interviewed the couple at their home, they both appeared in the story and the father was still taking their daughter to meetings, and denied that the children killed themselves because they felt trapped in a life with no real friends or future, the mother felt that they killed themselves because of the hopelessness of being JW,s and because they were a poor family and looked down on by other JW's, which they were, so the kids weren't really in and weren't really out - a horrible limbo.
I was raised like that and know how it feels. The point is the total control to make or break you. Horrible and needless tragedy. Maybe the boys lives and deaths wouldn't be in vain if their case could help others, it would surely demonstrate in a court case what Watchtower control is all about.
what, in your opinion, is the worst thing that the society has released?
(book / tract / video / audio cassette)
Remember the scene in the movie City Slickers, when the 3 guys were riding along discussing their worst and best days. And the one described how his worst day turned out to be his best? Well, the Revelation book was that for me. It was that book that made me realize that they were making it all up!!!!!!! It was such crap and so obvious to me that it was all a fabrication. That book should have been entitled: Revelation: Its Grand Climax Is A Figment Of Our Imagination

witness 2 says "Naa those are deer tracks, I've seen 'em a million times, they're deer tracks"
witness 3 steps up to look at the tracks and . . .
a train ran him over!!!!
i have been reading quite a few of these threads and post and through it i feel as though i have come to know some of you and your behaviors.. i notice that there are many of you who are still associated with the hall, and have not left yet... yet, bring up very "strong" points on the board.. i have a question for all of you who fit this description.... why dont you just 'effin leave already?
whats holding you back?
if you feel soooo strongly that this is "wrong" are you too chicken to state your opinion to a family member?
viewpoint,
your opening to this thread was nasty. you tried to back people against the wall and basically called them hypocrites for not leaving. Well, if you are so farking insightful why were you disfellowshipped? Why would you not disassociate yourself, were you too big of a coward or did you not see the light until they kicked you out. I have wondered why people stay, I ASSUMED they had their reasons, and sure enough they do, read threads and posts its all there, every heartbreaking bit of it. So now YOU answer the question, WHY DID YOU WAIT TO BE KICKED OUT? When I DA'd I just did it, but when I read from the people who are being careful, biding their time, laying their plans I wish I had done the same. I stand by my decision and yet I still wonder if I could have made it easier on myself and others. Do you sense confusion here-well there is. But you came on too strong, your "question" sounded more like an accusation and it sounded hateful.

there was a young blonde lady who was passing out the wt & awake magazines at the bus stop where i was waiting for the bus to go downtown..... i started having a conversation with her by starting out about charles taze russell.
i told her that of all of my readings of the works of c.t.
russell, not one time did he ever teach that jesus was michael the archangel..... so i told her about this quote....zions watchtower and herald of christs presence, their official magazine of doctrine, 1879, page 48, which is teaching on jesus christ: "...his position is contrasted with that of men and angels, as he is lord of both, having all power in heaven and earth.
hopefully you got her thinking, when I began having serious doubts I was still going out in service and I used the old ask a question routine to draw out the householder, only by then I was asking questions because I actually wanted the answers. I called on the door of a Methodist minister, I asked her a lot of questions, I really wanted her answers. I still kept up the old party line though. When I was leaving she said, " You know I have spoken to a lot of Jehovah's Witnesses when they come to my door, but there is something really different and genuine about you, I have enjoyed our conversation." Little did she know that she was witnessing to me!!!
Its hard but we should be kind to them (JW's) because we may be talking to someone with doubts and coming on too strong may drive them back in, if they are poking out a little. I guess that sounds a little crude, but you know what I mean.
i'm interested in finding out if anyone here who is an ex-dub has taken or still takes prescription anti-depressants or anti-anxiety medication to deal with feelings of inadequacy and inexperience with life outside of the wts, relationship problems, stress/anger, low self-esteem, etc.. i still suffer with self-esteem/image problems as well as stress with life in general after leaving the wts.
i often feel alone and inexperienced when dealing with life's problems, and often find it difficult to handle conflict/disagreements with loved ones when they arise.
i feel these occurrences are a personal attack on myself.. i just started attending counseling to deal with these problems, and it was mentioned that an anti-depressant may help.
Of course you have problems dealing with life on the outside. If you were raised "in" like I was, how in the HECK do we know how. I have often described it like having amnesia, you have no past. What descision did we ever have to make, everything was decided for us, everything. It gets better and you have to build a new past. The longer you are out, the more past you have.
Try meds-works for me, try therapy-wish I had. It gets better and you get less freaked out as you go along, share with new friends, they will help you adjust and be incredibly understanding.
I tried a whole bunch of religions, just because I could, didn't find one but learned alot. When I was a poor little JW kid, I always wanted to be a Catholic, I thought all the pomp and circumstance would be cool. They seemed so normal to me. I went to a Catholic church a few times and it was sorta cool. But I didn't keep it up.
I have a pretty funny bumper sticker guide to world religion that a professor gave me, pretty funny but I don't know how to put it in, I have a friend with a scanner if that would help, any suggestions?
Hang in there and don't make any major life decisions for a while, come here often, it helps alot, we all understand.
If you have specific questions, ask them, my guess is that no matter the question, somebody here has been there and has a suggestion.
You will probably go through the stages of grief, sorta like somebody died, check those out, if anybody has the list, maybe you could post it.
Don't rush yourself and do be good to you, do what feels good (wink, wink).
Don't drown yourself in booze, it doesn't help-okay a little drinky once in a while won't hurt. But don't medicate with it.
Do you remember the old Mission Impossible Song? Hum it now: Your Mission is to become a real person and should you be caught or killed we will NOT disavow any knowlege of your actions-Good Luck Jim.
