hey i'm wondering if anyone can give some good advice on how to step down in the safest way.. i have served as an ms for a number of years, but can't do it anymore.
i know too much i want to fade in the future when i get some family things straightened out.
i can't move right now so that's out unfortunately.. what should i tell the body?
You've gotten a lot of advice here, some of it frivolous (but funny!), some of it pretty good (e.g.. see Sir82's comment).
The bottom line is, you do what works for you.
You're a MS so you're not a newbie. You've seen other people do it. You can judge the potential reaction of your BOE. Your own experience will point you in the right direction. Make a plan, and work the plan.

Not everyone realizes that the WTS has told elders they are on their own if they are sued and cannot expect organizational support from Mother.
We had a very wealthy elder in my former congo who, upon hearing this, thereafter declined to be on any judicial committee where was the remotest chance the JC could lead to any threat of legal action. He was quite blunt about it, telling the rest of the elders: "I have too much to lose."

I would guess that if they don't talk about the UN it's because they don't want people digging into their own past association with them.
Or perhaps their association isn't "past" but ongoing and more discreet nowadays.
For those who forgot, or didn't know, the NGO scandal centered on the disclusure that the WT had made a deal with the UN to say nice things about an organization they'd condemned for many years.
reading a thread from just a few months ago, made me realise that a lot of people who used to be regular contributors here no longer do so.. i know that people have always moved on, as the anger and hurt get less, as the wt mind-set totally disappears, we feel the need to come here less and less, but because of the intelligence, insight, wit and wisdom of these people, the board is somewhat impoverished each time one of these moves on.. this is a plea to all who post now, and some who still read but don't post, please do not leave us entirely, the contributions on here are literally life-saving for many.
it is easy to get dangerously suicidal when the whole wt pack of cards falls down for you.. please do not become a stranger to us !.
I think of the forum as a half-way house on the road to recovery. It's only a permanent residence for those who stay on and become staff counselors.

i've seen a few threads/posts where some of y'all have heard from jw contacts and how they've stepped up their 'the end is close' rhetoric because of the earthquake/tsunami in japan.
i usually take those things with a grain of salt.
there's always some jw whose cheese has slipped that reads prophecy into every little thing that happens.
To be a dub is to go to bed each night praying for a miracle that proves they were right. After many such nights, they start to realize it won't happen. But on days like 3/11 (or 9/11), it can seem for a brief shining moment that it might, after all.
Probably a lot of dubs out in FS last few days. Each with a hopeful gleam in their eye.
every once in a while there's a story so well told that it deserves lots and lots of kudos and plugs.

Hell, we all believed it at some point, at least to some extent.
But, yes, some do come to "know." Especially those who get to peek behind the curtain. By then, however, they are thoroughly invested. Sort of like those Enron investors who held onto their worthless company stock. They reasoned, "We've only lost money if we sell it."
Many dubs are like that. They realize the stock is worthless, but the act of selling it - admitting it - is too much to handle, psychologically.

Has the writing always been this bad but I just now noticed it? Or is it deteriorating as we get "closer to the end?"
It's always been bad, now it's worse. Reason? Supply and demand. The readership of WT magazine is now limited to dubs only, not for mass distribution. The writing has always preached to the choir, only now the choir performances are closed to the public.
