a regional or social variety of a language distinguished by pronunciation, grammar, or vocabulary, especially a variety of speech differing from the standard literary language or speech pattern of the culture in which it exists: cockney is a dialect of english.
this is one of the definitions for dialect that i found at dictionary.com.
i think ebonics fits the profile of this definition.

This is the way I was raised to talk, but I know how to speak correct english. I don't write the way I talk. Yes, I could speak "correct" (Standard American English) at all times, but to be honest, it makes me feel uncomfortable, like I'm being a phoney. However, I do speak "correct" english when I feel it is appropriate, out of respect. To say that ebonics is not a dialect and that those who speak it are uneducated just because you don't like the way it sounds, I think, is unfair.

I always thought of ebonics as a dialect, before I even heard someone confirming it. This goes back to my childhood when I first learned what dialect meant. I would like to know why some of you don't believe ebonics is a dialect according to that definition. I don't speak correct english around family and friends. "um finna go to the sto" "what she talkin' bout?" [Translation: I'm about to go to the store. What is she talking about?]

you all better get right on over there now and register.
These people are unbelievable. Count yourselves lucky if you have opened up your mind and escaped the enslavement of religious thinking. It's an endless winding road that will lead you nowhere. Aren't you happy that you don't have to waste all of that precious life energy, in pursuit of the "truth"?
a while ago it was asked what your ethnic background was and only 2 said they were some percent black.
why do you think few black people actively speak out against wt?
few african-americans can be seen protesting at assemblies.
I don't understand the question. Could you be a little more specific?
my knowledge of mental health difficulties is confined to my own experiences with depression.. thankfully, i feel that i was able to eventually identify it's source and deal with the problem.
i read lot's of books and camne to the conclusion that i was suffering from a neurosis.. apparently, neurotic people recognise that they have a problem and often seek to remedy that problem.. i read also that there are people who suffer from a psychosis.
psychotic people think that the problems they encounter are everyone elses fault and don't take responsibilty for their situation.
True, its an imperfect system, but its the best one we can make
I agee, but I wasn't necessarily talking about the system, just people in general. Pedophiles are usually viewed as evil. We rarely, if ever, symphathize with them, or think they should be given leeway. I think it depends on the crime. That's why I say it's all relative.

Pedophelia is considered a mental illness, according to the American Psychiatric Association. There are different treatments to different illnesses. Its a crime to commit murder, whether you are sane or not. Criminals are still punished according to their crimes, whether they were sane or not.
Not all mentally ill people are put into prison. Some are put into mental institutions and later let out. But most pedophiles are sentenced to prison. People can plead temporary insanity as well. Few may get away with it, but it happens.

The problem is...................how do you really know if someone is mentally ill or not? It's pretty obvious when someone talks to themselves or see things that aren't there. But how do you tell when it's not that black and white. Some people think that serial killers are sick (paranoid schizophrenics). Others think they're just evil. The truth of the matter is, we choose who we "want" to be mentally ill. A pedophile is sexually attracted to children. Normal people aren't attracted to kids. It would be safe to say that these people are mentally ill. But we don't "want" to give leeway to these type of people. We have no sympathy for them. We don't "want" to think of them as sick. We'd like to think of them as just evil so that we can lock them up and throw away the key. It's all relative.
pretend that you're god (yaweh) for a moment.
it doesn't matter if you believe in him or not.
you've created the universe.
Pretend that you're God (Yaweh) for a moment. It doesn't matter if you believe in him or not.
You've created the universe. The angels are in heaven with you. You decide to create man. Now think about what God does in the events that follow. What would you have done differently? Or would you have done anything different at all?
What would you have done the moment you realized Satan had turned against you? How would you test Adam and Eve, or would you have tested them at all? And if you did give them a test, how would you punish them if they disobeyed?
Would you have created only two people to populate the earth or more? Would you give man free will? How would you give them laws to live by, or would they be born with these laws already implanted into their hearts and minds? What would you do if they broke these laws?
do you think that god enjoys killing people?
it sure sounds like it to me; jw doctrine more or less scared me into thinking that god is going to kill all persons whom he/she thinks is not doing his will.
my question is, how can god kill someone for not being "christian", or following the bible out of sheer ignorance?
And what exactly is the christian view about the purpose of life, and what happens after death. I don't believe in resurrection - no. Reincarnation seems to be likely, and that this is what he taught, but was edited out of the bible and omitted from his teachings.Anyway rubbish has been added on, through the centuries and misinterpretations.
But if God is so powerful, why would he even allow things to be edited out of the bible? If the bible is truly inspired by God, why would he allow things to be added on? If God is so wise, wouldn't he be intelligent enough to realize that mankind wouldn't be able to tell the real from the fake?
And if humans are smarter than animals, shouldn't the aforementioned prove that reading the bible other than for leisurely purposes is a complete waste of time?
