  this is waaaay too bizarre... if anyone is good with shockwave or flash they should do a parody (although the self-parodying nature of this is too much!)..

  don't know what was funnier: the singing of From House to House by someone who imagines himself to be Pavarotti but really isn't

  Don't know about plastic mag. covers. Never used one myself. Only leather. (No comments please)

  As to that awful rendition of House to House, that's a track from what is reportedly the worst sold album in the entire portfolio of WT music albums produced: "Singing Kingdom Songs". When we received our copy after it's release we were in shock at the poor quality of almost the entire album. We were told that the singer sans-voice lessons was a former DO Charles Sinutko. He sang this song years ago at the special meeting where Harold King spoke about his long incarceration. Heard Knorr was not impressed either.

  "Singing Kingdom Songs" was the brain-child of Karl Klein and Joe Spinelli. Supposedly The WT studio production staff at Bethel was less than pleased at having to produce this project.

  Governing Body Stories

  Oh my GB members. Over the years we've met and entertained many, some even staying in our home.

  Nathan Knorr - a pompous twit.

  Dan Sydlik - not your ordinary GB member. Will actually stick his neck out for Bethelites he thinks have been wronged. He is moody. But his quick wit is often mistaken for grumpiness.

  Ted "the Boss" Jaracz - dangerous. Don't trust him as far as I can throw a Mann press. Wants to be in control all the time. Head of the Bethel CIA the service department. Unkind, lacking in fellow feeling.

  Jack Barr - a true gentleman. A great people person. Goes out of his way to make people feel comfortable.

  Burt Schroeder - out there. Not quite sure if, even in his younger days, he's all there at times. Lovely wife - Charlotte - a true gem.

  Barber - comes up with some really funny one liners. But he's been past it for a long time.

  Fred Franz - loved fishing. Burt Schroeder once caught a fish hook in Fred's scalp. Not serious, Fred thought it was funny. Fred used to come to breakfast and eat a spoonful of honey in a cup of hot water... that's it. I always expected him to bring out a locust or two.

  Lyman Swingle- what a mouth on him. Had the capability of cussing like a sailor. He once told us this story about Bethelites

  40 years ago you could tell a new boy (new Bethelite) to go jump off the top of the 117 building and he'd do it.

  20 years ago the would ask "Do I have to?" and then go do it.

  Now they say "show me a scripture."

  George Gangas - I don't need a television I see visions in my head.

  How many of you gave up a college scholarship?

  how many of you gave up a college scholarship to appear "spiritual"?

  jt's thread about "homegrown lawyers" and the wtbs willingly sending certain ones to college started me thinking about that question.

  i know i for one, relinquished that scholarship to show how "spiritual" i was at 18. .

  No way Jose. My wife and I are both grads of great universities. We took quite a bit of heat for it as young collegians but they sure did take our checks over the years after that. Our boys and daughter are both graduates. The twins following in the medical profession.

  Thankfully we didn't become dumbed down as dubs.

  We've known Jack Carlton for many years. Stayed in their home in Palm Beach before they were lured to Walkill. Though sometimes naieve, he's not a thief, or a liar. This writer seems certifiable at best. A litle shock therapy might be prescribed.

  What did you actually enjoy about JW meetings?

  as much as i dreaded going to all the meetings there were things that i did enjoy.. 1. no special parking spaces for the elders, etc.. 2. no collections plate going around the room.

  3. no one person giving the talk every single week (can you imagine the same speaker 3 to 4 times a week, every day?

  i told my dad that it was rumored that the building sold for 120 mil.

  my dad said no he heard about 200 mil.

  not sure if that's true or not.

The Brooklyn Papers File / Greg Mango By Deborah Kolben The Brooklyn Papers A developer is in contract with the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society to buy the religious order?s mammoth, 12-story waterfront building at 360 Furman St. While several developers expressed interest in the site, RAL Development Services purchased the Brooklyn Heights property for an undisclosed sum and plans to convert the 1 million-square-foot book and video distribution center into waterfront apartments, as first reported by The Brooklyn Papers. The Manhattan-based company is best known for converting the Arthur Levitt State office building at 270 Broadway into residential and commercial use. The Furman Street building, which rises at the end of Atlantic Avenue, between the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and the East River, will serve as a gateway to the planned Brooklyn Bridge Park, a 1.3-mile commercial and recreational waterfront development between Vinegar Hill and Brooklyn Heights. David Semonian, a spokesman for the Watchtower Society, commonly known as the Jehovah?s Witnesses, declined to comment on the sale price of the building but said all the proceeds would go towards ?worldwide Bible education work.? According to sources, the building sold for $200 million. The Watchtower society acquired the property in 1983 and own approximately 35 buildings throughout DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights. They have moved some of their printing plants to upstate Wallkill. ?It was our aim to not only sell the building but to locate a buyer who was interested in the objectives and goals of the community,? said Semonian. Robert Levine, president and principal owner of RAL, says he is currently in discussions with the city and state to determine the future uses of the building and what relationship it will have to Brooklyn Bridge Park. ?We plan to use 360 Furman St. to enhance the southern gateway to the new park and provide an exciting waterfront destination,? Levine said in a written statement. Details of the relationship between the building and the park are still being hashed out. In November, Councilman David Yassky sent a letter to Deputy Mayor Daniel Doctoroff requesting that the taxes generated from the sale go into funding the park. Any new taxes generated from the building would be new revenue since the building has been tax exempt because it is owned by a religious organization. ?In this fiscal crisis, New York City has little money to create and sustain parks, we need to find creative ways to guarantee income for the Brooklyn Bridge Park,? Yassky wrote. Deborah Wetzel, a spokeswoman for the Brooklyn Bridge Park Development Corp. (BBPDC), a subsidiary of the Empire State Development Corp. charged with building the park, said BBPDC officials are in discussions with the developer to determine whether the building should be included in the boundary of the park.
