It's funny how new rules were made in the house that applied to meeting nights only. One major one was no video games before the meeting. My mother also tried to extinguish worldly music before meetings. She told me I should be listening to Kingdom Melodies instead of Rap music while I was getting ready for the meeting.
So, what rules did you have?
NO Tv and wait till after the meeting to eat...
The kids were starving especially after elders meetings..
We usually didn't eat dinner before the meetings, as we would usually go out for pizza with others from the cong. after the meeting, which seemed to make the meetings go slower, and time would drag, because I couldn't wait to eat. I always had to prepare for the meetings, and would crank my Victrola, and listen to classical 78's while doing so.
What Couldn't You Do on Meeting Nights?
I could never seem to be able to get off of work in time!
I remember TV was a big deal to me growing up. I missed EVERYTHING. I think that's why I've grown addicted to it. I never want to do anything during the week except stay home and make up for lost time watching all the great prime time shows :)

That usually happened to me if I had a talk on the school. Funny coincidence, eh?
We never had a "real" dinner on meeting nights either because there wasn't enough time.

Well being that my dad wasn't a JW, pretty much there wasn't rules on meeting nights... we had the tv.. etc etc.. of course mom would take us aside and recommend we find time to prepare for the meetings but she couldnt' enforce it.. so I did it when I felt like it.. and didn't other wise..
Meeting nights were always hectic. At least my folks believed in having a proper dinner before going to the KH. My father always insisted that we did our homework right after school, so that we would get it done and have the rest of the evening (whether it was a meeting night or not) free.
The only things we missed out on were the most popular TV shows that were airing at the time. But now we get to see them in re-runs or on DVD!!
I'd hate meeting nights now... I'm hooked on CSI and ER on Thursdays.
