I remember giving a talk in a hall that had a window behind the platform looking out into a pretty garden type setting. It was quite unique and added a nice touch. I'm sure some jerk of a CO came at sometime and made them get rid of it.

Here is the response to my inquiry sent to me from the City Manager. Apparently he did the right thing per her comments about City Policy. Seems like a nice kid. Glad he told Jeff Ellis Company to go away after they offered him his job back.
Thank you for contacting the City of Hallandale Beach regarding the beach incident that occurred on July 2, 2012. I am in close contact with Jeff Ellis of Jeff Ellis Management who has started a full investigation into the termination of their lifeguard. The lifeguard is not a City employee, but was employed by Jeff Ellis Management, a private company contracted to provide lifeguard services for two city-owned beaches and the Municipal pool. Jeff Ellis Management has committed to the City that if the lifeguard was terminated in haste, the company would move expeditiously to reinstate his employment.
It has always been the City’s policy that if there is an actual emergency inside or outside of the protected area, the lifeguard must respond. We do however have to ensure that certain safety protocols are followed to ensure the safety of all visitors to the City of Hallandale Beach. At this time, the City is awaiting the facts of the termination and the results of our internal inquiry and the Ellis Management investigation. Once the City has the results of the investigation, we can make an informed determination on the future of the relationship with this management company.
The City Hallandale Beach truly values your concerns and comments on this issue. The safety of our Beach patrons and the manner in which this service is provided is paramount to the City. We are moving swiftly to address the situation.

Had this job a few times when the MS guys we had doing it didn't keep up. Once spent a lot of time calling all the congos in the circuit to get their lists of speakers to add to a database for the benefit of all. I promised a copy of the compiled list once completed. A few congos did not wish to particpate for some reason, so I listed them as "REFUSED TO PARTICIPATE" in the final copy that I sent out. Boy did the whining start. Told them they had their chance to willingly help - so tough. Loved getting back at those pompous duds.

Been dabbling for about 5 or 6 years. Shoot with Canons and always in search of better and bigger glass, pending the demise of my wallet.

Hypocritical at best. I remember some years ago the then DO (the pompous Rodney Thompson) giving a talk at an assembly (Plant City, FL) and discussing adopting. I don't remember the exact wording, but the gist is dubs need to be careful about adopting because you don't know what you might get. The impression he gave was dubs really shouldn't adopt but spend their time and resources ($$$$$) slaving for the folks at Bethell.
After the program I castigated him for such a narrow minded attitude. His defense was - it was in the outline. Of course he didn't show me the notes and I left the discussion telling him he was a pompous ass. What a look on his face. I'd have liked to have slapped him a few times.

Bet they didn't register their Sparlock doll either. Maybe someone could register the Sparlock character and make them recall all the DVD's.

Windows 8 beta, the tiles interface sucks

Cuckoo: thanks for the tip. I'll check out Libre.
I don't know about everyone else, but I'm a bit tired of the 'upgrade' process with MS. Look for new drivers, get frustrated looking for new drivers, spend bucks updating favorite software programs, get irritated finding out that a special piece of hardware will not work at all under the new 'best of the best' proffered by MS.

What is even more intriguing is what they don't show the elder body that is sent to the society? I have seen cases where self serving CO's sent ex parte communication to Crooklyn; the blindsided local body was unable to effectively defend themselves to onesided half truths.
Slimboy: lowly publishers would categorically be denied any access to such 'confidential' information.

Moshe, I agree with your observations. I'll sit this one out for now til I'm forced to move on. MS is taking a great risk with this release. They should have learned with Windows ME and Vista.
I'm just as frustrated with the constant changes. Just when you think you've learned where all your favorite shortcuts are, they change the OS and move everything. The ribbon in Office is just as frustrating. Some of my favorite functions are still hiding, fortunately I found a little app that gives me back the old menu. I still like Wordperfect, but have been forced by the market to also use Office.
