Actually the big Borg no longer collects interest on KH loans. They stopped this practice several years ago, just aout the time they stopped invoicing congregations for a share of the costs of the CO cars. Once I had quite a heated discussion with a certain GB member aka The Boss over some of these practices. As far as I know the WTS does not hold deeds to KHalls and I'm not aware of any recent changes to this policy. The ownership is held by the local Cong. either by a corporation or a trust depending on the local laws.

Ponzi Scheme?
by Odrade inspeaking of kingdom halls... .
so the society asks for donations to build kingdom halls.
it then takes the donated money and loans it back to the very people who just donated it and charges them interest!

Workers Comp Insurance and Quick Builds?
by Maverick inin any construction project a percentage of the cost is for insurance.
in a private home, at least 10% of the total cost is for workmans comp insurance.
this means that for a $250.000 house, $25,000 of that is for this type of insurance.

It's been five years or so since I was involved in any QB projects, but at that time all projects were covered under the WTS self-insurance program. However, if any small claims came up the congregation was encouraged to cover these locally so as not to impact the Lord's money.
The society has latched onto the idea of quickbuilds because they save money
Quickbuilds do not save money. In fact they cost more money. When we did a small KH remodel we found that we could do the job for less by finding materials ourselves. Considerably less. Each congregation is assessed a fee to have the Quick Build group involved in the project. This is supposed to cover their phone calls, etc. In reality it becomes a way to collect money, again.
In another state my brother in law reports that an elder was siphoning off some of this money for his personal use. This was hushed up quick. He was never reproved and no money was ever returned to anyone's knowledge.

Where is "Watchtower Hospice"? Where are the WTS lawyers?

WT Hospice non-existent. WT lawyers too busy trying to take over the rule of the WTS to be bothered with trivia.
A couple of years ago a friend in another state told me of a situation regarding a young fellow of about 14. Mother was a JW albeit a relatively new one. Mother was dieing of some type of cancer, don't remember what. At the death of the mother, the only dub in the cong. to come forward was a widowed brother about 40 or so maybe a little older. The dubs and the CO had a fit that he was going to take in the kid. A single man doesn't do those things, according to them. The CO said we just have to recognize that we can't help everyone or some such drivel. I don't know all the details, but I do know that the kid was taken in by the child welfare system. Guess he's better off.

Are You Surprised By How Few Witnesses Have Called You???
by minimus ini've had a few people just recently call or try to visit with me and let me know that we are "missed".
but in reality, the phone hardly ever rings with a witnesses calling on the other end to see how we are.
after spending a lifetime in the organization, it would seem that this couldn't happen......but, i'm glad i'm not getting harrassed either.......did you get calls and visits from those that "missed" you??

Surprised? I would be surprised if they call. Isn't it interesting, having been a "pillar of the church" so to speak both financially and spiritually, that as I've reduced my involvement I haven't been on anyone's list of concern. Recently I had emergency surgery and was hospitalized for more than a week. Saw two elders from my hall. During my eight week recuperation had two elders visit and one of those was shamed into it. No other elders bothered to call either.
It?s been 6 months since I turned in a FS report and not one word. Since I resigned as an elder about two years ago I have not uttered one word in any meeting, nor stepped foot on the platform, nor visited a book study. Yet not one word. Amazing? I think not. The "love of the greater number" has indeed cooled off. Yet if someone?s in trouble or needs hospital / medical advice I sure do get a phone call real quick. I?m becoming less and less available.

Talk 2 And 4
by Paradise Found in.
just curiouse.
but why was the format of the theocratic ministry school talk 2 and 4 changed last year..
-
SadElder
Don't know exactly why they changed the format though it was and still is sorely needed to really accomplish the stated goal. Where is the constructive criticism? The one minute 'counsel' period has now fallen to "how wonderful you did". Oh yes the student is supposed to see the School Overseer after the program, but you can have a sure bet on the number of times that happens. Just sit back and watch the crowd flee at the end of the meeting. The sound of the Amen hasn't even fallen off when that door bangs open for the made rush out.
And how many are really qualified as school overseers? The quality of the programs has fallen and the method of teaching has not changed in 50 years. Sad indeed.

Watchtower Copyright
by Beans inas we all know how the watchtower dosen't want articles on the internet unless they put it on, what copyright violations have they violated?.
i am certain that exactly what others have posted on the internet is exactly what the watchtower has done quoting topics for there articles!.
has anyone come accross anything where the watchtower has violated a copyright law?how much of someone else's work can i use without getting permission?.
-
SadElder
I have reflected on this same thought. The WTS is spending money contributed by the R & F for these publications. Is it not then the property of all the dubs not just "The Society"?
I suggest that anyone who writes to the WTS copyright the letter and then wait to see if the local Cong. gets a copy. Then this becomes a copyright infringement on the part of the WTS. Tit for Tat if you will.

The older I get the more crochety I get. But I'm really a nice ex-elder, I can put on a front when I have to though. And have fun doing it.

When I stepped aside, notice not stepped down, I did as Amazing suggests. Simply wrote a one liner... as of this date I no longer will serve as an elder. Oh they tried all sorts of things to get me to stay but I simply kept up the front. The CO asked why, I told him it was none of his damn business and I absolutely did not wish to discuss it and that I would unleash my lawyers on him if he persisted in bothering me. That shut his mouth so fast you'ld have thought I asked him for money.
