Wonder if the elders know the Bethell message system tells mother when or if they read the documents sent?

Why doesn't the Watchtower Society never study the Bible cover to cover?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inin the 40 years as a jehovah's witness, i never read the bible cover to cover.
the three meetings a week were broken up with book studies, awake and watchtower magazines, and ministry& field service meetings, all written by the watchtower society.
never did we read any chapters from genesis to revelation and discuss the true meaning of what we just read.

Some years ago in what was then called the "Theocratic Ministry School" the first talk or "Instruction talk" was spent reviewing the material from the "All Scripture (si)" book which contained 66 chapters discussing a particular bible book. I seem to recall there may have been several weeks spent on each chapter. Periodically a review of the book with the same format was brought back. I guess that was the lame attempt at covering the Bible books.
For some reason the "All Scripture" book seems to have fallen out of favor.

I just remembred the poor deranged guy who came to be known as Coffeemate. He was a street person, crazy as a loon, but harmless. His best was mocking Mr. Coffee and a few other choice expressions. -

Oh boy.... Mr Coffee.... he was a hoot. I may have a recording of him stashed somewhere. I'll have to search but I'm not hopeful.
I believe he was disfellowshiped from the 124 congregation but I can't recall for certain if that was the congo.
When I was there working on some special in the early 80's I remember his almost daily outrage at our "coffee on the Bethel table morning, noon and night" diatribes. He was especially vehement with Fred Franz. On my way down the hill to 25 occasionally I'd get shot at too, "another new suit this one has, hah, 14 dollars a month. Hypocrites, robots, .... blah blah." Then there was "on the Awake dated ??? there was a picture of a pregnant woman, a pregnant woman, and some blather about coffee again."
At some point he got beat up by some neighbors and later, not during my time there, he was backed over by a Bethelite driving a truck and sustained a broken leg, I think Bob Thaal (sp) was the driver.
I took a quick look through my files and didn't find the cassette that "Coffee" was on so I guess it's gone for good.
Thanks for the reminders, and bringing a smile at some old memories.

Did anyone else have a JW "sliding doors" moment when they made the wrong call.
by dozy inreading the thread on mind numbing meetings reminds me of the following event that occurred when i was about 19.. i'd got a full time job away after leaving school and was working about 20 miles away - thursday night meetings necessitated working later , catching a 6.10pm bus after work and walking 10 minutes or so straight to the kh , often arriving just as the meetings were starting or a few minutes late and getting the "evil eye" from some of the jws when i arrived.
my parents ( father was the presiding overseer ) would bring my clothes in the car and i would get changed into my suit in the kh toilets.. it was one of those moments when all the stars seemed to align.
i had had a particularly stressful day at work and was even more tired & hungry than usual on a thursday night.

How sad that the dubs by and large are such jerks. High and mighty opinions of themselves looking down on everyone else. Now you're free and more at peace.
Years ago during the construction of one of the assembly halls I served on the assembly hall committee. This of course had a great impact on my field service presence. One of the "holier then thou" elders started making an issue that I wasn't taking the lead. So every few weeks I came and conducted the meeting for field service but dressed for work at the assembly hall. Of course this was not good enough for Mr. Holier, so he started making an issue of that too, no tie at the Kingdom Hall you know. The very next meeting after one of his diatribes, since I was secretary I brought all the secretary things to the meeting and dropped them in the lap of the PO. At the Assembly Hall overseers meeting I resigned from my position. Unbeknown to me the assembly hall committee via the Brooklyn Service Desk called all the elders in our congregation to a special meeting with the CO and DO and read the elders the riot act. They wanted to know what contribution they were making to help complete the assembly hall? Of course the elder body sat there with a thumb up their behinds not knowing what to say. Needless to say they went home with blistered backsides and I remained on the committee. I told the body to keep the secretary job. When the assembly hall was completed we sold our house and moved away, the beginning of our fade. Those were the days, now we have better ones.

What does 'populist' mean?
by LoveUniHateExams inso yeah, i've been encountering the word 'populist' quite a bit recently.. e.g.
trump's a populist president.. what does it mean?.
does it simply mean popular?.

I'm not a Hillary supporter nor a Trump supporter. I voted for neither of them. But as far as popular vote goes, Hillary won by some two million votes. It was only because of the Electoral College system that Trump was designated winner.

Increase in Second Sealings for the Anointed?
by Nevuela inthe other day i heard my anointed roommate on the phone, discussing something called the "second sealing".
i heard her say that most anointed people only receive it shortly before death, if they receive it at all.
she went on to say that she has been hearing about several other anointed people receiving theirs recently and not dying afterward.

The Watchtower 12/1/1973 had this article "Jehovah Brings ‘Sealing’ of His Chosen Ones to a Close" in which they implied that there would not be a general increase in anointed ones and that the sealing of those already chosen was drawing near. "Surely" this was because the final hour of 1975 was around the corner.
"Evidently" they have had a flip flop again and it is "likely" that they don't know anymore than they did in 1973.

What Do You Think Will Be The Next Big Change In The Watchtower?
by minimus ini think there will be a change in the 144000 belief.
too many witnesses think they have a heavenly hope.
maybe 1914 will be discarded too.. what is your watchtower prediction?

Watch for little nuances in the Watchtower. They typically introduce things even years in advance by subtle inferences. The idea of the GB being the Faithful Slave was introduced little by little so it was no great surprise or shock to the dubs. Those word bombs they use will start showing up on some thought they discuss. You know the ones: "evidently, likely, surely then."
Since I don't read their stuff often can't say if there's anything in the offing. I do believe we'll see some attempt to get more money out of the rank and file. Maybe a new understanding on tithing or just fees, which they seem to be tacking on more and more these days.

WATCHTOWER Is Trying To Put Cameras In All of Their Kingdom Halls
by minimus inone of my best friends is in the security business.
he told me the other day of how the watch tower has been in contact with his good friend and business associate.
evidently they are inquiring about putting cameras into every kh so that they can do 24 hour monitoring.

Of course no one will be listening to see if there is any "unholy" apostate speech going on especially if it is with "greediness".
They will be able to snoop at will.
