i recently received the a.s. in business admin that i've been working on, like, forever.

summa cum laude with a 4.0 average.

in looking for funds for my education, it has been my experience that if i look hard enough, i can find funding for some subject that applies to me; i.e., women's funding, funding for people that have bad eyesight, funding for people whose parents worked for XYA business, etc. Do some intensive searching for grants, etc. that MIGHT apply to you.

in the meanwhile - happy education, sweetie - it's just one more thing they wanted to deprive you of, and you are getting it!!!!!

keep up the good work -- " the best revenge is living well". Education is freedom.

i've shared a bit about my experiences but i don't think i ever gone into much detail.

i'm setting this down as an example of what growing up a witness can be like for any lurkers who have doubts or questions.

i was born into a family of witnesses.

thank you for doing something i have not been brave enough to do - sharing your story in some detail. many of us have been naive in our social relationships. well, it makes sense because we weren't taught how to be careful around strangers - "you can trust anyone in the 'truth'". then, when we are interacting with people, we just take them for face value and we end up being raped and we have nowhere to turn.

Now that you are not a JW, you will be able to protect your child and nurture her/him to make THEIR OWN CHOICES -- that is such a happy thing!!!! I am happy for you and your child that you have broken free from JW and they will grow up F-R-E-E!!!!!

it takes a lot of courage to share your story. thanks.

Surname Change: your opinions please

hey folks.. i have been debating for some time about changing my surname.. as it stands, it's in its typical patriarchial form (my father's surname) and honestly, i'd like to change it to my mother's surname.. i would not deny that my father was my father, but i cannot say that he, or his family have been ever there for me.

my memories of them, for the most part are awful.. my mother is no angel, nor is she perfect, but i do have some connection to that side, and my grandmother (maternal) is my number 1 support person in the family.

when i think back at family that were there for me during rough times, it was relatives on my mom's side.

a child of nine made me remember something good as well - that for me, i can know that those feelings belong to a child and i as an adult can deal better

Not sure if this is the right area

all - of course i'm new to this board (or any board) and have an 'issue'.

my father and step-mother are both jw's and i know i can't argue with them.

however they're important to me and yet after a visit, i feel as if they are chipping away at my own spirit.

I'm new to posting messages, but not to the sorrows of missed birthdays, exclusion from family gatherings, etc. Had a good cry abt my parents' 50 anniversary this year and my exclusion from same. I find it's a great comfort to remind myself that i am no longer part of that cruel, inhumane culture. I'm happy to hear that you are taking early steps to protect yourself and your children from the JWs - keep up the good work - congrats on looking for support !!

I do not a pray, but will keep you in my thoughts and send masses of good energy!

i haven't been able to stop reading this site for the past two days. I've been alternately laughing and crying and cheering.

After reading 'a child of nine' I just had to logon to tell you thanks - for speaking for that kid i used to be, and still am lots of nites. After so-o-oo many years i just don't feel so alone anymore.
