  In the extra-biblical Book of Jasher, it was the animals who formed a protective ring around the ark once it was loaded. The people wanted to break into the ark, but the lions and other predators prevented them. Yet they, themselves, would later die in the flood. I'd always wondered how Noah kept the people away once the ship was complete and loaded. It's a plausible account, I think.

  Oh, that's a much more loving picture of the Flood story. Desperate people clawing at the Ark, holding their infants above water as they slowly drown... of course, they are already weakend by the savagery of the lioness who attacked them ...

  My day

  decided to spend the day wasting time.

  drove down to redding.

  on the way i saw the real woody woodpecker -- every time i see one of those red-headed woodpeckers i think of the cartoon character.

  It was my favorite type of fall day - warm, wet and windy! I couldn't go for a walk, so I slept in very late (noonish), then sipped my tea while I looked out the window and fed some peanuts to the crows that come by a couple of times a day for their treats. I fed the other birds we care for, then sat down to watch a TV show "The Americans", the last 2 episodes.

  Had lovely coffee made by my roommate, and took care of some house business. Then made supper of a loin chop (pork) with carmelized onions and some asian spice, broccoli on the side.

  Then I read some of "The Crystal Cave" by Mary Stewart (one of my fav series of Arthur)

  *yawns* need more sleep, though!

  It was a 'good day'. Maybe next fall, I will be able to walk in the rain.

  Wal-Mart Workers Plan Huge Protest on Black Friday

  wal-mart, which pays a top wage of $12.00+ to its full-time employees, is under attack, once again, by its employees and those who would like to unionize them.. i can't speak to the usa, but here in canada, most wal-mart employees are not full time.

  it is mostly a part-time employer, so zero benefits.

  in my opinion, that makes the $12.00+ look a lot smaller when you envision the actual paycheque.

  I can't speak to the USA, but here in Canada, most Wal-Mart employees are not full time. It is mostly a part-time employer, so ZERO benefits. In my opinion, that makes the $12.00+ look a lot smaller when you envision the actual paycheque. We are talking a maximum of 30 hours/week, and here, they make $10.00/hour.

  Thoughts? Wal-Mart is the biggest employer in America. So a lot of 'adults' (ie, not students, for example) live on a Wal-Mart wage.

  My own choice is to support the protesters and boycott ... which is what I've done since the stores opened here.

  Officer Wilson not indicted in killing of Michael Brown

  after a thorough investigation and weighing of the evidence the grand jury has decided not to indict the officer.. the reaction so far seems as predicted - people refuse to accept that the result represents justice despite claims that is what they wanted.. there is now violence and vandalism, including gunshots.

  let's hope the police contain the troublemakers.. .

  This is how I perceive things. This case, and the reactions to it, reflect what America is going through at this point in time. I feel so sad for America. So much hatred and fear, on many levels.

  Travelling extensively south of the border, in the early 80s, I felt so much promise. People were Working, Going to School, Starting Businesses. Remembering the 60s & 70s, with the marches for racial equality, the inspiring leadership surrounding that movement that fostered HOPE for a country that would lead the world to a better place. Along came Vietnam, and once again, the American people eventually triumphed, forcing the government through peaceful protests (well, if you don't count death by cop) to end that dirty war. In the 70s, we were all just having fun, jobs were plentiful, and still blissed out on the peace and love generation. But as the 80s progressed, things changed. Greed became the buzz word, and the party started to go downhill.

  Thirty years later, I see more race riots, millions unemployed, lacking health care, the nation living in high fear because of terrrorist attacks (both foreign and domestic), homelessness an epidemic, and much more. I see a society that reached extreme heights of decadence and power, which is now in decline. The Michael Brown incident is the latest in a snowballing series of events that will end in a bloody revolution. That has been my opinion for a long time.

  Why is Justice wearing a blindfold? Because she doesn't want to know the truth. That is what the people know - the justice system is corrupt. Whether this latest grand jury opinion is fair and just, matters not. The die is set.

  Yes, Oubliette, I think I read that on another thread. It might have been the thread where CoCo (once again) put up the scan of the letter he received from the experts, verifying that some of these WT publications do, indeed, have subliminal images in them.

  Well, I had my roomie look at it after I enlarged it, and we are both stumped.

  I don't hate the RC Church. I DO hate cover-ups of child rape. The Church has been under fire for 4 decades now, and the Pope has finally made a statement.

  Here in Eastern Canada, there have been at least 2 large scandals, and the RC Church is selling off one of its diocese' properties to pay for the settlements. What about the history of this makes you look more kindly at the RC Church? After they have been sued and exposed for covering up child rape, and protecting pedophiles, the Pope NOW says the police should be called.

  Cynical? No. Realistic. I have two very close RC friends, one of whom 'almost' left the Church when the Mount Cashel abuse story broke. They are disillusioned with the Church. And that makes me cynical? I guess my CAtholic friends are .... what would you call it? Crushed? Disillusioned? Yeah, all of the above.
