Thanks, Orphan. That's what I remember from 20 years ago, so, yeah, I could be mixing things up a bit.
You're welcome.
besides being overworked and overstressed almost everyday in the past few months,.
i've had to deal with a 'broken heart', insecurities with my physical appearance (gained a lot of weight),.
and being lonely because i started distancing myself from the 'congregation', i just want to cry, sob, and bawl out here in my bedroom.
You mean you're not???
Of course I am, I just mean *in person*!

the michael brown tragedy has garnered a lot of attention in the media recently highlighted.
by the recent county court decision to not indict the lone officer who did the shooting which caused the death of micheal brown.. .. now after more information of the event has been released openly to the public, we can evaluate upon are self.
in are own opinion toward was the law handed out in this particular event proportionately fair or to a professional standard ?.
I think UK TV doesn't get the credit it deserves.
When I was growing up in the 70s there were programmes like Rising Damp which were not only funny (which made them popular) but they often had positive portrayals of black people. In that show the black guy was the university educated and sophisticated gentleman and the white guys the slighly ignorant ones.
We also had black newsreaders and entertainers. Seeing black people on TV wasn't extraordinary by any means (in normal roles)
Agreed! I find UK programming can be more realistic. It's interesting to research how many TV shows have been 'imported' from Britain and made into popular NA shows ........... one thinks instantly of ABFab, The Office and the British "Friends", Coupling (which starred one of my fav Brit actors).
And, hah! I agree with the last comment -------- we can colour our conversation by the things that affect us most --- that is so true. And that is a peaceful thought - one we can all share.

i have been gone for about 5 years now.
and am making good progress towards building a network of friends, and outside activities.
it takes time though, and it has been harder than i expected.
Hi, and yes, this is familiar. :))
Looking at this from a psychological point of view (which is my way), it's very natural. As a JW (were you 'born-in'? that would make this even more relevant), you were taught that there is no future.
In a relatively healthy home, kids are taught to plan their futures. As JWs, we were taught, and indoctrinated, to believe that the only 'future' was the paradise lie, so we had no need to plan. Planning, in the REAL WORLD way, was frowned upon.
So, neural pathways were formed in our brain. This means that when we think of the 'future', we authomatically shut down. Other friends have 'plans' for how their life path will go - we find it hard to make those plans. It's okay, you can change that.
Practically speaking, I would say here's one way to go about it.
Picture where you want to be in 5 years. SEE, in your mind's eye, how you will look. Take a big sheet of paper, and tape it on the back of your bedroom door, or some other private place.
On that piece of paper, make a bullet-point list of, for example,
- where you would like to be in 5 years.
- what you can do (smaller milestones) to get there
- alternate goals (the long-term goals, I call 'fuzzy', because life happens, they may change)
- short-term milestones
- rewards that will be gained/achieved - both long and short -term
Does that make sense? Depending on how much you 'get into' this stuff, you can chart and plan things out ......... or just do the basic. :))
Have it somewhere you can see it (that's why I suggest the back of your b/r door), so that you are reminded that hey, you are learning to live in the NOW but still, it's important to think about and make plans for the future.

it sucked!!.
so what's going on in the borg!?
what have you missed??
This is off topic, and I apologize,,,,,,,,,,,,I can't start a new topic, and my posts are limited to 10/day.
Don't know why, and there are no pertinent messages in my "In" box. Did I piss someone off?
It's not an issue ..... I'm just passin' through, but have a good 'gut' feeling about you, bro, so thought I'd post this on your thread === please, no enquiries or controversy required. :))
Hey, Data Dog! I didn't think you would mind 'too much' if I said this on your thread, as I can't create my own.
Anyway, good luck and good nite. I guess I'm not too welcome here anymore, and that's okay.
keep on keepin' on, Brother DD! you are gonna be okay, I know it. You are 'true.' xo

lol,I'm sure 'someone' will say Drama, but hell, that's not me ... just let it go and carry on with the thread. xo
i certainly wouldn't.
and if the elders wanted to have a meeting with me, i would respectfully decline.
if the elders wanted to deal with you, would you talk with them?.
I don't usually respond to your polls, Minimus, but this time...............
LOL!
not!
i'd just like to tell everyone in the us (and world), "happy thanksgiving!".
in many ways, the posters here understand me better than anyone else on this planet.
you all have helped me tremendously.
Happt T-Day, Skeeter!

Yes, thanksgiving is a myth (at least the US one), but there's no need to rain on Skeeter's parade.
