I'm my favorite type of JW - Double Life
by thedepressedsoul inthe borg's tactics on most jw work.
they put fear into their mind, they guilt trip them and basically make them scared to do anything when they are away from the kingdom hall.
it allows them to control every aspect of their life.

PS. You are very condescending. That is a JW trait, though, so I understand the mindset and don't take personal offence. :innocent: -

Hmm, 'methinks thou dost protest too much' ...
I already acknowledged in my comment that with maturity, I learned to respect my friend's choice, so there is no need for you to justify your choices to me.
You are 16? Or am I in error? That has little relevance to what I want to say, though.
You state that "Everything in life is equal". Well, I hope life teaches you lessons in a gentle fashion, because you have a LOT to learn, whether you are 16 or 60.
Bless-ed be! )O(

Hi, thedepressedsoul.
My best friend growing up is a double-lifer. I have never understood how a life of deceit can be fulfilling. Always looking over your shoulder, having to have a good memory, hahaha! because you would always be in danger of being caught in a lie.
Truth be told, I resented that person for a long time, because they had their family and I did not have mine. It's funny, because that person was a speed freak in the 80s had a child out of wedlock, and well, a lot of shit that I think is okay - but I got DF'd and lost all my family for what? Playing 'doctor' with my best friend ....Eventually, I grew up and realized that my double-lifer friend had their own issues to deal with, and I had no reason to be resentful. We all choose our own path, and hell, that friend never did anything to *me*, they just made the choice to do what was necessary to keep in the family.
Power to ya! And, well, as to the consequences --- your screen name says it all.

To me, the plethora of internet memes has made them, for the most part, redundant. I find these apostate memes pedantic and humourless. Everyone is an individual, and folk will always have different sensibilities. *shrugs*
They do tend to make 'apostates' appear to be mean and bitter, though. And some 'apostates' are mean and bitter. Just like any other group, there are all shades of ex-JW.

Clergy as Mandatory Reporters of Child Abuse and Neglect
by OrphanCrow inin the united states, the statutes governing mandatory reporting of child abuse are determined at the state level with variances occurring between states.
https://www.childwelfare.gov/pubpdfs/clergymandated.pdf.
the statutes outlined in the above pdf are the statutes by which jw elders are accountable to according to the state in which they live.. candace conti's court case was filed in california and the reporting laws that apply to clergy in that state are as follows:.

In Canada, the clergy is not protected from the responsibility of reporting. Appreciating the article you quoted, OC, and to further enlighten, here is the url for the Child & Services Act of Ontario, as an example of provincial requirements.
(bold is mine)
Do professionals and officials have any special responsibilities to report?
Professionals and officials have the same duty as the rest of the public to report their suspicion that a child is or may be in need of protection. However, the Act recognizes that people working closely with children have a special awareness of the signs of child abuse and neglect, and a particular responsibility to report their suspicions. Any professional or official who fails to report a suspicion is liable on conviction to a fine of up to $1,000, if they obtained the information in the course of their professional or official duties. [CFSA s.72 (4), (6.2)]
Who does the Act consider a person who performs professional or official duties?- health care professionals, including physicians, nurses, dentists, pharmacists and psychologists
- teachers and school principals
- social workers and family counsellors
- religious leaders, including priests, rabbis and members of the clergy
- operators or employees of child care programs or centres
- youth and recreation workers (not volunteers)
- peace officers and coroners
- child and youth service providers and employees of these service providers
- any other person who performs professional or official duties with respect to a child
Excellent post, OC, and I wholly agree - check out the law in your country/province/territory/state. -

Nicola, welcome to the forum! And congratulations on being DF'd ... love the way you put it, as a good thing.
Looking forward to reading about your story.
Just ignore any rude atheists. Some of us (atheists) are just happy you are free of the Watchtower, and don't feel any need to ridicule your faith.

A coordinated effort to bring up Watchtower pedophelia to the public's attention.
by Village Idiot ina statement that phizzy made on jonathan drake's thread on flyers gave me the following ideas.. we should make a flyer on the issue of the watchtower pedophilia issue written with the object of alerting the public about the jw door to door activity.
phizzy suggested the title, "the paedophile at your door".. on that flyer should be the contact information of our most informed member on the subject who's willing to talk to the media.
barbara anderson perhaps?.

VI - not legal here.
Hey, it's no biggie if people want to do it. It's your choice. I just think that people should check out the local laws, and they can make their choice accordingly. I

Wife wants a Family Study after the special talk...but initially refuses Bible only study.
by garyneal inmy wife asked me to attend the special talk with her because she wants to attend something like this as a family and feels that she "enjoys worshipping together" as a family.
i have not been to church for at least a year and have pretty much abandoned the practicing of my faith but i can remember how i used to want to have a church going family so i obliged.
i feel kind of apprehensive about doing these things because she wants the kids and i to be on our best behavior and has even fussed at me for playing tablet games during other talks.

Gary - I wish you success, with all my heart! You would be the 'dream husband' for so many women - I'm so sorry that the WTBTS has ruined your marriage.
With much love,
