One pic was of the Vancouver Stanley Cup riot. Burning police cars, destroying property, you name it......... but they were just 'letting off steam'.

There were eleven news stories with violent riots, major stuff,,,,, all at sports events. Yes, people were upsset and horrified,, but why are there no videos of police brutality splashed all over the internet?

smiddy, I agree 100%. In this part of the world, I am very sad to say (as my family is in New England as well as Canada), the USA is seen not as a leader, but a bully. Don't shoot the messenger.

The police are on a roll with making bad choices, why did they need to chase that man down and how did he get killed? Killing innocent people and burning your neighborhood business and services down wont make things better, is this a sign were going backwards with Civil Rights?

a new scientology documentary, which was due to be aired in britain by sky atlantic, has now been banned for fears it will ruffle the wrong feathers.. the new film, directed by alex gibney, which claims that scientologys practices at their u.s. headquarters were abusive and violent, is shelved due to the fact that northern ireland is not subject to the 2013 defamation act.. john travolta, a scientologist himself, also slammed the new film, speaking to reporters about it, he said, ive been so happy with my experience in the last 40 years...that i really dont have anything to say that would shed light on (a documentary) so decidedly negative.. the leaders of the scientology church have also condemned the film about them, saying it is, one-sided, bigoted propaganda built on falsehoods and informed by former members whom it calls misfits.'.

I watched this film last week. It's called "Going Clear", and is an extremely revealing look at Scientology.

Paul Haggis is one of the big stars who participated in the documentary, and he tells it like it is. He talks about the hundreds of thousands of dollars it takes to belong, once you get to a certain level. He and others talk about the mind control, and the shunning that takes place if you leave, among other things.

We get a deep look into this secret world.

Travolta has a stake in this game. One of the things that Scientologists must do is tell ALL their secrets, everything that happens in their life (sound familiar?). People in the film claim that Travolta wanted to leave the Church, but is being blackmailed into staying because they are holding past deeds from his youth over his head.

It traces the beginnings and growth of Scientology and L. Ron Hubbard, and so obvious that it's all about the money. Cha-CHING!

It's an interesting and revealing look into the scary cult we know as Scientology, and I can understand why they do not want the world to see it.

Went to a Catholic Funeral Today

it was for a dear friend of the family that i have known all my life.now, bear in mind that i was born and raised jw, so my experience with catholic ceremonies can be counted on three fingers, a wedding, a "regular" mass, and this funeral mass.once they got down to the actual speaking about the deceased, i felt emotionally involved, but prior to that, i was watching and had questions about aspects of the services (these i have seen in common for all three times i have been in an rc church):why the "sing-song" voice during the prayers?

does god hear it better if you sound all spooky tenor?i observe that every time a reading from one of the gospels takes place, it is preceded by a big musical number:"alleluiah!

alleluiah"( "and nowwwwwwwwwwwwwww, heeeeeeeeeeeeeere's jesus!".

I've been to catholic funerals, many of them, and some are really good. It depends on whether the person was known by the priest or not.

FayeDunaway, me, too. Also, I think some parishes are more liberal (guitar, singing), and others formal (strictly Mass and soloist). I find the RC service comforting ... the singing, the rituals and answering back to the priest, etc.

Every RC funeral that I've been to had eulogies. While people go up to take the wafer, it gives everyone a few minutes to reflect on the deceased and / or gather their thoughts if a bit overwhelmed by grief. And the ending - where you turn to the person next to you and say "Peace be with you" and they answer "And with you". It's lovely!

All in all, I like them, though I am not a Xtian in any way, shape or form. ; )

I think this could be confusing, especially to a JW creationist who (most likely) has a high school education or less. You wouldn't want to put them off from the get-go.

Evolution is a well established scientific theory; there is copious evidence in support of it, and virtually all life scientists (even those who are religious) agree that it is a fact.

Evolution is a theory ,,, yet a fact? Perhaps a definition of what constitutes a 'theory' in science would clarify that to the reader.

This is not a criticism; just trying to be helpful.

It doesn't matter .. that 'look' is their cognitive dissonance showing its ugly face because the Society (TM) has not given them a script for this conversation. Though I agree wholeheartedly, Oubliette - don't give them any ammunition, even if your spouse just left you, you have an incurable disease and your dog died. Never let 'em see you sweat!

so today's wt seems to put out the idea that during early christian times it was god's hand that made the romans build roads, have strong laws, etc.

to make the preaching easier.. anyone else notice that?

some here really banged on about how great it was that god did that, just for them.

Violias - you know, that was not a personal attack towards all who feel bitter. I don't believe that people need to 'get over it', or anything like that.

Of course, your feelings are valid! I do NOT forgive my abusers, and never will.

My comments are directed to those who think they are leading a huge movement of apostates! And these memes are Educating the PUBLIC! ahahaha!

As Judge Judy would say "Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining". IOW, these meme creators assume a posture which is untrue: that said memes are helpful in educating people about the WTS. They are no more than expressions of bitterness.
