"Most women would prefer to be stay at home housewives. Women's lib did alot of damage to women!"
by purrpurr inthe above is a quote from a jw female relative.
this was in response to a discussion about the suffragette movement ( and the movie about it that's currently in cinemas).
she seemed to think that it would be so much better if women were just daughters/ wives/ mothers and didn't go out to work and have career's?

Sorry, I had to look up Maureen Dowd. I had never heard of her, and she doesn't appear to be particularly involved in feminism. I guess I see feminist leaders such as Bella Abzug, Naomi Wolf, Gloria Steinem, and those who lead the movement.
If you don't accept that men (for the most part) have made the rules and women have been subjugated as a result (for natural reasons, societies developed that way, of course, as women were the child-bearers), then I guess there is no point to any further discussion.
I'm not really up to a strong debate. You are probably right. I respect your opinions, and will leave it at that.
take care, and thanks.

TD, thanks for your reply and interest in my thoughts on the matter. Your statement did have a ring of truth, but I think you made a broad stroke.
Radical feminism opposes the patriarchy, not men. That is *the* mainstay of the movement. What does "the patriarchy" mean? It is a system that is seen as dividing rights, privileges and power primarily by gender, and as a result oppressing women and privileging men.
(Of course at this point, some people will interrupt "What about men who are poor? They are not privileged." In a patriarchal system, these men, though they are perceived as more or less powerless, most likely have full dominance over their wives and daughters.)
As the word 'radical' implies, these women (and men, believe it or not - yes, men can oppose the patriarchy as well - just ask Gloria Steinem) tend to be more militant, and 'in your face' (kinda like a successful businessMAN hehehe).
"Some men are emasculated by equality." So, is it your position that zero men are emasculated by equality? That seems hardly likely.
Perhaps it would be more correct to say "Some men feel emasculated by equality".
It's true that the patriarchy has resisted goals of the movement, such as pay equity and maternity leave for BOTH parents. Women still have great difficulty in breaking through the "Glass ceiling", and face horrendous treatment by the "old boys' club' when they become firefighters, cops and work in many other male-dominated fields.
We usually attack things we fear - why such [hatred] fear of women in the workplace?
I think it would be true to say, "some feminists claim that men feel emasculated by equality". And of course, we always have 'the fringe'; that is to say: those who veer off from the mainstream, and make a lot of NOISE about their ways of thinking, and therefore receive a lot of attention.
To wrap up, I think your statement would be more accurate if it did not claim to be a 'mainstay of radical feminism'.

When those terrible days come along, full of memories and the helpless feelings - remember that you are safe NOW. I am so glad to read that you are getting this type of support! When I look up at the stars, I will think of you, umbertoecho, and know that *we* are not alone.
Sharing your healing, and being supportive of others, is the best thing, and you have my support and admiration.

PS. I, too, have always been socially inept. It's a skill set which we were prevented from learning. It's a hard way to be, with so few people making the effort to get past the protective walls. My heart goes out to you. xx

Even Now, You Haunt Me...
by Garrett ineven after leaving the organization, it still lurks in the background like a shadow.. as some of you know, i met a wonderful girl a while ago (which i'm going to need your help with).
she is a catholic and i am open and very respectful of her beliefs.
however, i know there will be a time where i will have to tell her that i once was a witness... and to be honest, i'm quite scared of that.. i don't want things to be ruined between us because of a disgusting cult that i was in.

I had a hard time with my in-laws. Though I never returned, my MIL hated the JWS and treated me like garbage - she never trusted that I would not return to the JWS. It was ironic, with her punishing me for being JW, and them shunning me for leaving. The marriage didn't survive, for various reasons, but not being able to 'belong' to my new family certainly played a part in the reasons why I left him.
I don't think she should care (most RC don't seek to marry in the church nowadays). Don't let fear hold you back!
All the best,

Pot is not highly addictive as some other known drugs but can develop into discrepancy issues.
It can be abused just like alcohol to the detriment of the user thoughOkay. There is no comparison. This is 'apples and oranges'. No one has EVER died from using pot. It is not addictive, not "highly addictive" or "somewhat addictive" - this is an either/or - it can't be a 'little bit addictive', just as you cannot be a 'little bit pregnant'. You do not have black outs from using mj. It does not rot your liver and kill brain cells. AND ETC.
Pot is not for adolescents, just like a lot of things. That's why we have laws against under-age gambling, drinking and driving, to name a few activities that are not appropriate for undeveloped bodies and minds to participate in. That's why most pharmaceuticals should not be prescribed for children - they are intended for adults.
People with unresolved emotional issues abuse pot. Just like they abuse video games, porn, food, sex, work and a plethora of other things that are not addictive. These 'addictions' are methods of self-medication that people use when they fail to address the emotional problems - instead, they bury the problems by over-indulging in the thing that makes them 'feel good.'
Facts, people, FACTS.
haha, I get a bit frustrated with the lack of reality in these threads.

kaik, you stole my comment! : )
We in North America, have had farcical campaigns on ideologies for decades.
1950s and ongoing. The War Against Communism (mostly in USA) - FAIL.
1980s and ongoing, The War On Drugs - FAIL.
1990s and ongoing, The War On Child Poverty - FAIL.
Now, it's the War On Terrorism - doomed to FAIL.
There are social reasons why we have these problems - we do not live in a perfect world. Injustice prevails, and that will always breed social unrest. The 'global economy', and its billions of abused work slaves, which is now feeding the machine that makes the rich get even richer, is going to crash, and SOON.
The Western world needs to WAKE UP and stop the cultural imperialism, bleeding of natural resources, and the xenophobia. Ack, it's all too crazy. smdh
