my father talked to me, and HELPED me!

i looked up my student bill on the web today to see how much money i was getting back from the school to buy books and school clothes.

well, turns out, one of my loans didn't come through, leaving me with a large debt, rather than surplus.. i call up the financial office to find out the problem, my parents made to much money this year and i did not qualify.

well, my parents have no part in my education, especially financially, since they kicked me out of their house.

Here's the way it works where I live: if you can show you have lived independently for 2 yrs, and not on yr parents tax returns, you can be considered independent. Hope that's some help. Student Aid should be able to help you out with this.

As for yr dad's attitude, well, sometimes they know deep down in their hearts (?) that they are doin wrong by you, but can't admit it (thus the $$$ help, and the 'cold' attitude). I prefer to see it that way, it's more positive for me. But, help is help, so I don't question it too much, I can't read minds after all. If it's about manipulation, then I just keep aware, accept the financial help, say tks, and continue on.

Elder's Visit -- What do you say

i have been d'f for over a year and two elders came by to see me for a breif visit.

what do you say when they arrive ?

are they making an inspection of your place of residence or you ?

The Scriptures

the scriptures are some of the oldest books in the world known to man with dates included now how do you suppose that can be, that these books have survived this long, many thousands of years ?

hmmmmmm i don't see any other book on the shelf as long as this book not even any other history book as far as that goes, now i wonder why a book that supposedly is nothing more than a lie or uninspired as some of you put it would survive that long.

i wonder how christianity has lasted as long as it has if it is all just a lie.

I think the billions of people who are muslim, hindu, jewish, shinto, aboriginal, pagan (did I leave anyone out?) might disagree with you.

Here in North America it's easy to think that most people in the world are Christian, since in our culture, Christianity predominates. In fact, Christians are a minority religion in world terms (IMHO).

Just a thought, KGB, not an attack. Wanted to getcha thinking. If I'm gonna introduce you to any of my hot, single friends (and I have one in particular in mind), you'll need to expand your horizons a bit.

What's the most hypocritical thing(s) you've ever seen a JW do?

up high on my list has to be when a jw co-worker named john fitzgerald tore into me one morning (when i was coming in late for work) for grabbing a quick piece of cake from the lunch room.

turns out, someone in this small little office had brought in the remainder of their birthday cake for folks at work to finish up eating.

john was older than i and a ministerial servant (ooh) and felt it his responsibility to keep me on the straight and narrow.

This is not the MOST hypocritical, but the closest to home.

My brother took me out for a beer to have a chat (after about 5 years of shunning me). On the way to the bar, he bought a pack of cigars for himself. While we were sitting in the club, having a smoke and a beer, he was telling me how I should "come back", how much happier I would be. He said he remained 'in' cause he didn't want to lose friends and family.

fade to ...

seventeen years later - saw him for the first time since. "what, me? I never smoked. I never said I stayed in for family!"

The Enormity of It All

occasionally the enormity of it all just comes flooding back in on me.

at times it just seems so overwhelming.

I have had those feelings many times. Here's one thing that has helped me put them in perspective.

What is also fantastic and enormous is that I was able to see reality and leave. Something inside me craves truth and freedom, so much so that I escaped JW. We're almost exactly the same age (by the date on yr posts) and were both born into it. We grew up at a time when girls were not supposed to question, yet even so, we have overcome that early childhood training.

So look in the mirror when you're feeling overwhelmed and say, "Look at this amazing womin! She is so strong, so smart. She can do anything. And she is not alone." Then give yourself a pat on the back and a huge hug from me.
