i saw a thread recently that asked if you were different from your online persona, most people answered to varying degrees "no".
that made me wonder though how do you view yourself and how do other people view you?
what kind of a person do you feel you project?

i'm reading dan brown's book "angels & demons," which is kind of a prequel to "the davinci code," and i'd like to see what you all think of these quotes:.
"i did not ask if you believe what man says about god.
i asked if you believed in god.
Actually, my therapist recommended the DaVinci Code. Tks for the reminder, Nina. Will do.

Nah, it's just that for our entertainers, takin' yer money (specially when the US $$ is high) is like takin' candy from a baby!

i am so in the dark.
i do not know what's going on and, quite frankly, i don't care to.
perhaps there is bliss in ignorance.
Not interested, really, I have a life.
OTOH, it's kinda fun to debate sometimes IF people can stick to the topic and avoid personal slurs and name-calling.
As for fighting and pushing each others' buttons, man, there's enough of that in the world already. Why waste the energy? When the debate turns to mud-slinging and insults, I'm outta there.

I'm with the atheists on this one. I feel no need for g*d or a divine creator, but Odrade expressed my feelings almost exactly.
sense of connected-ness-- like energy or vibration. Also, when I am in a stand of trees, I feel a need to put my hands on the trees
I live in the city and it's sometimes hard to get out to the country. A couple of weeks ago, I attended a party and went camping for the weekend. The first thing I did when we got there was literally lie down and hug the ground - so happy to have no concrete within sight!
After examining my own thoughts, and reading tons of stuff like y'all and many others on this forum do, I came to the conclusion that for me, it didn't matter how we got here. Just that I'm here, and I have to survive it (and, hopefully, have some joy along the way). I like some of the things Jesus and other 'prophets' say, but I also like some of the things that atheistic philosophers say.
Have you read any of Jean Vanier's stuff? He just died a year or two ago, and wrote a few books on theology (I think he was a priest, don't quote me on that). He comes from a Catholic perspective, but is not exclusionary. You might enjoy his writings.
My favorite secular spritualist is Emerson. A man truly ahead of his time, imho. And as for living philosophers - Howard Rollins rocks!
I don't think it's silly to believe in g*d. I just don't feel the need myself. Friendship, looking up at the stars, huggin a tree, looking into the eyes of a little child, playing fetch with my friend's dog, makin love, are some of the ways I feel spirituality.

Personally, I liked Billy, although I only watched the last 3 shows. (I know I'm supposed to root for the local guy, Cory, but Billy just had that great blue-eyed soul voice).
I gotta say, though, Ryan has an awesome voice and I like his Buddy Holly look.
and Yeru, I just gotta add (gently) ...
and Neil Young, Mary Pickford, John Candy, Alanis Morrisette, David Cronenberg (directed "the Fly" "Dead Ringers"), Norman Jewison, Hank Snow, The Guess Who (remember American Woman?), Joni Mitchell, James Cameron (famed director of 'The Titanic', remember that little movie?) Anne Murray, Rita McNeil, Jim Carey, Peter Jennings, Ashley MacIsaac, Dan Ackroyd (and about 80% of the Second City comedy troupe), Mike Myers (you know, Austin Powers) and that's just off the top of my head. Don't get me started.
edge-a-ma-ka-shun, about your northern neighbours is a good thing when yr talking entertainment (where per capita, Canucks rule)!!!
Okay, you caught me, when it comes to entertainment, maybe I'm a leetle beet nationalistic, but can ya blame me?

many of us were once fervent supporters and active members of the wtbs through our local congregations.
when confronted with controversial information while under the influence of the organization, many of us were instantly defensive, dismissive, skeptical and fearful.
we chose to continue believing the leadership knew better than we did and had our best interests at heart, despite any logic, or lack of reason.

I think you debate in an admirable fashion, and you don't resort to name-calling. It was a pleasure debating w/you, even though we disagreed.
Just had to throw that in since I'm just reading this thread.

Good topic - lotsa honest talk, so refreshing from 'real life'.
I have to say I'm a lot more reserved on this board than I am in real life, although not really different from my personality, just very cautious.
It's easy to comment on 'issues' in a thread, but really hard to talk one-on-one when I can't SEE the person, their eyes, or HEAR their voice. Maybe just haven't been on the net long enough, I don't know. We'll see.
Oh yeah, I can be a peacemaker, or a sh**distuber, depends on who I'm dealing with. Some people need gentleness, some need a good shaking up! But all, imho, need kindness.
