i have seen a lot of new posters intro stories on here, also updates from those who have been around for a while.
i just want to take 1 post to beg those reading to speak up.
it was a big turning point for me and one of the best decisions i made.
We do our best to make sure this is a safe place and your identity should be fairly safe though as long as you don't reveal anything about yourself, use aliases and avatars from elsewhere etc..
I've been online since the late 80s. When I found JWD, back in the early oughts (lol, I feel OLD saying that) I looked around a lot of places, and since then, have been a member of other forums.
This is by far, the most protected (in terms of any member being abused by other members), and safest (from viruses, and prolific ads), that i've seen. In an all-round sense, JWN can't be topped. Worked in IT for a number of years, and I never worry about security on JWN. Many thanks to Simon, Angh, family and mods. xx t

"My Book of (graphic violent) Bible stories." 1981 to give your kids nightmares.
Witness 007, I left the KH in 1976, and have never seen that book. I've read a lot of folks' stories about the horrific pics. It's time I found it online and took a look That book has traumatized a lot of X-Gen kids, damn the WTS!
For me, and maybe others of my generation, it was the stories of torture in Malawi and Auschwitz - we all lived our own personal horrors.
I hope you sleep well now. xx tal
where, exactly, does the bible say that government(s) will turn on religion?
i mean, other than interpreting some crazy visions/dreams from revelation as such?.
with one megalomaniac leading the gop race for nomination to vie for president of the usa, i've noticed that paranoia has ratcheted up a notch or three.
UC, does it make sense to you? I'm just wanting to normalize the topic. Voter (and non voter) apathy is a big issue here in Canada. I know it is in the USA as well.
In discussing it as exJWS, I think it's good to realize that yes, the WTS would DF you for voting (oh yes they would, don't even go there, pls) , and they encourage apathy in exJWS.
It's also important to realize, and convey to folk who are new to the political process, that voter apathy is wide-spread, and hey! We just ... might .. be ,,, a little bit normal. I'm sure you catch my drift. xx to you and your awesome partner in crime. : ))

But, OTOH, when the election is over, and someone else is in office, we can sit back and chuckle as the Armageddon is once again put back on hold
I haven't read comments, but to the OP:
This is true of most people in our culture. It's all a big drama, with the build-up to election. Flame wars online and dinner-table debates are the norm. The election takes place, everyone bitches, and then, complacently, they lie back.
I'd like to see exJWS support each other in being free-thinkers, volunteering and making a difference *every* week of every year. Stop infighting about issues that involve personal choice - yes, debate and discuss - social intercourse is one of the necessary functions of being human that we, as JWS, were denied. Be civil and respectful, refuse to tolerate abusive behaviour as an onlooker, (passive acceptance of abusive behaviour = agreeing with the bully) , and celebrate freedom of choice and acceptance of 'other'.
haha, this has been a public announcement of one old hippy - the peace/love/understanding kind, a la MLK and JL.
mum phoned last night to see how we all are.
after fifteen years away from meetings and my old jw life you'd think my fade could be called 'successful' and for the most part it is.
.. my resentment at being lied to and having wasted over thirty years of my life has left me like a glass of water full to the brim, it only takes a tap to make a mess.
we're so proud of him."

this dog looks almost exactly like the dog daisy i used to have about a gener-ation ago.
you'd think the coloring would be random but it's exactly the sameyet it's from california on the other side of the country.
i think you mix twohybrids that each typically have a look and that's what you get.
Terriers are such loving dogs; my neighbours, growing up, had a Scottie (very similar to one of your pics). Can you post a pic of your dog? I learned from friends, that my cat was a short tail Japanese breed. Her tail was only a few inches long, not severed by humans, and she was calico.. Perhaps a photo would help, if anyone has more expertise. xx

I'm more comfortable posting in member only sections, expecially when first starting here.
Indeed.

The internet is not private, and even on 'members only', it's important to remember that there may be people in your area, monitoring this board - you never know who may be reading. Exercise caution at all times, and take time to think before you press "Enter" on a PM, or "Post Reply" on a comment. Ask yourself these questions:
"Is this more than I want to reveal in public? to this stranger?"
... and ...
"Is this appropriate?"
You're in the Real World now, and you alone are responsible for your choices and your actions. There is no 'mother' to tell you what is appropriate. Listen, and learn. Explore, and don't let anyone put you down. xx tal

fmf - what a great thread. I'd like to welcome all lurkers to join, and a special note to those who, like myself, may have left years, or decades ago.
I feel the same as Giordano. If you have been out of the b'Organization for many years, you would be of great value to the site, and benefit yourself as well. For me, it meant that I had found one of my 'tribes'.
There are things, like 'in' jokes about our lives as children, or the absolute misery of field service when knocking on schoolmates' doors, that very few people in our current lives understand. That feeling of kinship has many benefits.
On the flip side, your experiences in life, both negative and positive, can help the people exiting JWS, to see that life after DF or DA, is fulfilling, and that freedom is sweet. xx tal
