Good point, Terry. It may speak to personal pov or cultural differences, I dunno. And I'm going through it atm, being shunned yet getting strange tearful telephone messages from my mother who has Altzheimer's ... it saddens me to see Mr. Gregory being exposed in his state of mind. He should be protected. There is a point in there somewhere to his ramblings, and perhaps he knows things he kept secret for many years. Perhaps in his addled state, he is trying to 'testify' before he dies. I dunno. It's sad. x -

I'm getting baptized
by BlackWolf ini know i've started similar topics before but this time i'm serious.
my parents have been constantly pressuring me and after yesterday's watchtower study they asked me if i was going to be baptized this summer... and i said yes.
i probably should have thought about it more before making a final decision, but they're pretty much forcing me to do it anyway.

Doubting Bro, thanks. I was in the exact same situation at 16. We have the internet now, and so happy to be able to share my POV, 40+ years later. Maybe help someone else.
Ditto to your 'other reality'. The org is getting worse all the time with their shunning policies, and if we are from a strict JW family, chances are that faders will be shunned.

BW - one day at a time. Take a deep breath. Part of being awake to reality, is accepting situations and then figuring out your best course of action. Try to minimize the drama, and your anxiety will lessen.

You live in Florida, you need to stay home until you are 18 for financial reasons, if no other. There is little or no gov't support in Florida, if you are sick or young and homeless - the state of FLA does not care.
Do what you need to do to maintain. Take free online courses, get another job, a secret bank account. You have 2 years to plan your escape! If you have to get dunked in order to maintain your parents' financial support, so be it.
The worst thing the JWS does, imho, to the the born-ins, is that they rob us of our ability to see a future - 5 years, 10, 50 years down the road. You can have a good life, with or without your family. Begin preparations for an amazing life - now. xx -

For starters, don't make it this month's featured video on the Org's public website.
That way, the press would not be aware that they teach such hatred to their pre-pubescent children. The video would not be on youtube (or it would be taken down), etc.
Once you go public, the cat's out of the bag. And it's no longer the 70s. Homophobia is no longer socially acceptable. Period.

The two paths of exJWs
by Simon init's easy to think of exjws as being a single amorphous group but the more i think about it, the more i believe that there are two distinct sub-groups and wonder if you agree.. there are those who believe and those who don't.
i know that seems obvious but let's break it down a bit more.
there are those who don't and never believed and some who are looking for a religion to match their beliefs.. i used to think this split would be between born-ins and converts but of course it's possible for born-ins to be believers although i suspect that many, like with other faiths, do so simply because they have never experienced anything else or made a conscious choice.

Xan, thank you so much, I barely survived. If I had gotten together with my teen 'crush', who knows? He came to visit the shop I worked in about 20 years ago, and still a lovely person with those beautiful blue denim eyes. I remembered when he married; I was already faded 2 years, but not yet DF, and he introduced me to his fiancee at the last convention I attended, at the Montreal Olympic Stadium. If I'd married him, I might still be a JW, who knows?
I'm glad you and your guy left together, and hopefully much healing has taken place. xx -

Dick Gregory is a legend, and one of the great American comedians and activists. He is in his late 80s, and seems to be having some issues with dementia in the past few years. IT's sad to see him losing it, and I give him RESPECT. He is old, and a bit confused, and that's what happens to some people, no matter how brilliant. That's why Smiley is taking in every word, I would think. Out of respect for this great man who may be rambling and a tad of a wing-nut in his old age, but props for past deeds. x tal

lol @ sparky, love W&G!

On a more serious note, this is the lying scumbag that perjured himself to the ARC. I detest these child-abusing hypocrites with a passion that burns clear and bright! And it keeps getting brighter. : D

Interesting Prince quote from current Entertainment Weekly (yes, another Prince thread)
by OutsiderLookingIn inthis weekend, i was reading my cousin's hard copy of the entertainment weekly prince tribute (may 6, 2016 issue) and came across a very interesting quote.
ew journalist leah greenblatt, who conducted the last major magazine interview with prince in august 2015, recounted him saying: "religion is beautiful as long as you don't become a fanatic and start shutting other people out, other ideas.
prince may have still been a jw, but it sounds like he had a very open-minded approach to it.

I find that interesting. It had occurred to me several years ago, when he and his JW wife (2nd wife) got divorced. Was it a 'scriptural' divorce? At the time, and since, I have wondered if he became disillusioned with the JW. In the past couple of years, he seemed to be getting more like his Purpleness again. My room mate and I had several conversations about it, and I had hope that the JW had lost their stranglehold on him. I guess we'll never know ...

Hi, Nova Scotian here. Check your personal messages. At the top of your screen, there's a green box with a white envelope, and it should show the number of PMs you have. Click on that envelope.
Welcome to the board, it's good to see a fellow Bluenoser. : )
