"To many, lying may seem a convenient tool to obtain certain advantages.... a liar cannot gain God's approval...if we are caught telling even a single lie, others may doubt the truthfulness of anything we say in the future." How true! You should apply this fine counsel to the Watchtower Society!
It's amazing how many times the WTS condemns itself through the pages of it's own magazine! Doesn't the WTS endorse the "theocratic war strategy" which includes "lying to protect our brothers?" So apparently "a liar cannot gain God's approval" unless the WTS says it's okay? Again the WTS puts itself above God's laws.

Welcome Teela,
I'm new here myself. I too have suffered mental distress as a result of the borg. I just keep in mind that "vengence is mine I will repay" says the Lord. The WTS will have to answer for it's actions.

Which way will the Society go because of the Internet?
by be wise ini've only learned the truth about this society over the last 5 months or so, so i'm not sure what the difference is to say - 2 years ago.
do you think the society will now get even more cultish in it's methods of teaching and more heavy handed if they feel things are slipping?
i don't feel i'm being over the top here because i've experienced very heavy handed talks at the assemblies and kingdom hall in the past that are just plain scare tactics but this just makes people ask more questions ??

Fear is the WTS greatest weapon. As long as they can keep the rank and file in fear then they will survive. Speaking from the perspective of someone who still attends meetings but can now clearly see that the WTS is false, I find it hard to believe that no one else there at the Hall is aware of what I am. I suspect that a good percentage of people who attend the meetings do so for social purposes, not because they believe what they are being taught. The problem is that you can't tell which ones really believe and which ones are just going through the motions. So you can't talk openly with people at the Hall and figure out which ones are pretending to believe and which ones really do. I suspect that as much as 50% fit this discription of "social witnesses." Just a theory.

by Englishman infirst we were all jehovah's witnesses.
that was the most important thing in our lives, our raison d'etre.
it was how we identified ourselves.

As a newbie I am extremely grateful to everyone else here who has taken the time to post. Leaving the borg is proving really hard for me, but being able to hear the experiences of others who have been "part of the collective" but managed to leave is helping me immensely. Though I don't know any of you, you guys are keeping me alive. Thanks!

Adventures at the District Convention
by RunningMan inwell, after a 15 month absence from the kingdom hall, i once again found myself in the biggest kingdom hall of all the district convention.
as in previous years, the material presented was dull and repetitious, so once again, i was forced to provide my own entertainment.
so, like last year, i am pleased to present a further installment to my assembly adventures, called:

That may have been the funniest thing that I have ever read in my entire life. I went to the District Convention on Friday and Saturday but couldn't stomach another day of it. Reading your post made me laugh so hard that I was literally crying!!! Just when I would get close to getting control of myself you would say something else that was just hilarious. I don't think I have ever laughed that hard without being intoxicated!! Thanks so much for this thread. This is definitely the thread of the year.

Why cults hide their old publications.
by refiners fire inhere is a classic example of why it is that cultic religions find it necessary to conceal their old publications from the scrutiny of the membership.
this example is from 7th day adventism, but i assure all readers it is a classic and well worth the reading.
still, it is necessary to lay out a little background to the speech i will be quoting from before proceeding.

"
i have read that the 1/1/89 W was altered to read from the original mag reading of saying that the "end would come before the end of the 20th century" to the bound volume's sanitized version saying something instead like "the end of the last days." not sure of the exact wording, though i would like to get my hands on a hard copy if possible."The actual quotation from the WT January 1, 1989 p. 12 in the bound volume and the WT CD-ROM is as follows: "The apostle Paul was spearheading the Christian missionary activity. He was also laying a foundation for a work that would be completed in our day."
The way this is stated in the original copy of the magazine as well as on the Watchtower cassette is as follows: "The apostle Paul was spearheading the Christian missionary activity. He was also laying a foundation for a work that would be completed in our 20th century."
It is interesting to note another quotation that hasn't been changed. In the book- The Nations Shall Know that I Am Jehovah- How? on page 216 this 'prophecy' is made: "Shortly, within our twentieth century, the 'battle in the day of Jehovah' will begin against the modern antitype of Jerusalem, Christendom."
It is still stated that way on the 2001 WT library on CD-ROM.
