Yes, my closest friends are inactive like myself. I actually never got around to DA myself, but I do plan on doing that sometime this year. We basically all see the Watchtower for the twisted organization that it is and when we talk about the old times, it's usually like, "I can't believe we used to do this!!" We all basically left for the same reason, the phoniness, the holier than thou attitude and the overall absurdity of it all. It came as no surprise then, when I found out the Real history of the WT--but that's another post. However, when I see other JW's on the street, they treat me like I have polio, influenza and leprosy and they avoid me like the plague. Funny, when I was going to the KH they didn't mind speaking to me to get a ride in my car or possibly ask for money or other things. But, I am happy without them-what a relief to be free!

Alcohol and the Witness
by Maverick inwhen i first was studying with the duds, one of the things i found interesting is that duds are ok with drinking alcohol, "in moderation".
i never was a big drinker, usually one drink if i'm out and will have to drive and no more than three in any 24 hour period, even if i'm staying home.. i wonder if the fact the "the judge" was a rumpot contributed to the soft attitude on alcohol?
most of the brothers i knew were big drinkers and many of the older elders drank more with dinner that i drink in a weekend.

Jads, you wrote:
"I have read this post and I feel that people just don't have a live if all they can do is sit back and boo-hoo about the "wicked" Watchtower Society.."
Well, why join this forum? Isn't that why we're here. Why did you join the forum?
Anyways, I have known quite a few elders who drank heavily. Also, I even know of an elder who actually built a bar in his home so his daughter (who went to school to be a bartender) could serve drinks at gatherings. Go figure.

Thanks, Euphemism. I never knew the word servant actually translated into deacon. Very interesting. I still think "servant" sounds strange but it's interesting to know where it originates from.

Do You Know Of Reasons Why Some Got Removed From Their Privileges?
by minimus inpioneer, ms, elder publisher???

Yes, when I was attending the meetings, a ministerial servant had to "step down" from his privileges because it was found out that his son (who was 17 at the time and baptized) was sleeping with everything in a dress. Then one elder had to "step down" to be a lowly publisher because his daughter got pregnant and was unmarried and living in his household.

Raven! Please do continue. Your story is quite interesting. I am shocked to find I am not the only one who was treated unfairly in a weird situation at the KH.

You get the idea. What's the deal with that?

An elder gave me that look
by JH ini'm inactive since many years and i met an elder yesterday while i was driving in the city.
i made my stop, and an elder passed in front of me driving very slowly and made a very sad and disapproved face.
although it lasted about 3 seconds, i could feel exactly what he was thinking.. i felt as if i was a very bad boy not wanting to play knock knock on doors with them anymore.. for the inactive ones, do you often get that kind of disapproved look?.

Ah, yes. The look of disapproval. I have received it many times. Strangely, I also received the look of disapproval when I was attending "meetings" regularly, and doing everything right; according to WT satndards. I usually make it a point to stick my nose up at them. I remember a couple of years ago I attended a "gathering for the friends" (which I was tricked into attending by my cousin) and at the time I was (and still am) "inactive". One of the sisters there asked me what congregation I was in and when I told her "None, I'm not going right now"-I cleared that room like a fire alarm . All of a sudden everyone had to go home. So glad I left the phony "witnesses". The "friends", huh? Not my friends.

Thanks, Nina for welcoming me to the board. I am really glad I found this site. It's good to know that I am not alone in my strange experiences with the JW's. I look forward to sharing in discussions to come.

I will as soon as I get a chance. I have a long story....

I am a former regular pioneer who left the great "privilege" of full-time service to go away to school and pursue a college degree. So, I of course was an outcast. When I came home for the summer to visit my parents, the district overseer and a ministerial servant just happened to be in our neighborhood and stopped by unannounced to see if I was attending meetings while away at school. The nerves of him! I no longer attended that kingdom hall (or any other for that matter) so I was really confused as to how that was ANY of his business. I politely but sternly told him that no, I no longer went to the hall. When he tried to delve deeper, I asked him to leave (since he said his reason for stopping by was to see my mother who was at work). It's really sad to me the feeling of superiority they have. I am so glad that I am no longer in "prison" by having to go to those meetings.
