Nice post AllTimeJeff,
I really appreciate your relating your experience and reasoning.
they mean the leadership.
all of this is code for: one who is not ready to really study and accept how the leadership of jehovah's witnesses use the bible to their own self serving means.
but to be fair, jw's teach that most all of these characters refer to the leadership of jehovah's witnesses, the governing body.

my italian friend loves going to the "feasts" that occur in italy, boston or nyc.
these feasts feature a "saint" with dollar bills pinned around her and they parade the saint in a long procession and chant "viva (whomever)".
they are quite serious about this and are proud to talk about the past generations of observers who appreciated the events.
Sulla,
I really dont have a problem with Catholics or the Religion itself. It is more open minded in reality than JWs' are. Not as controlling at least the Modern Church. I understand the appeal of Catholisim and why a lot of people who are Jack Catholics and dont believe all the teaching still want to call them selves Catholic.
It is a far richer heritage than any other "Christian" religion by a long shot,,,,,

Undercover,
Totally agree with that, they have dilligently spent two thousand years raping, pillaging and plundering all of the major art works of the world. Kind of like the British that stole so many of the worlds treasures and carted them off to British Museums. Its unbeleiveable how much Rome has aquired.
But in the end its all an enterprising business isnt it?

Minimus,
I highly recommend visiting it once. It just blew me away. Never had that spiritual feeling, but rather more amazement and awestruck at the scale and grandure and beauty of it all. Rivals all of the grand palaces I have ever laid my eyes on,,,,,,

Well you have to admit that Catholic rituals are far more interesting than Witness rituals. Rites, memorized prayers in Latin, the Uniforms and statues, pipe organs, the Vatican, the Vatican Museam, St Petes Basillica, the Cistine Chapel, Crucifixes, Exorcisms - its all so awesome!
Never mind that a few people got burned to the stake once in a while - its all a part of the fun! :-)
maybe you are an atheist.. maybe you are agnostic.. you have left a cult, left behind an entire belief system, complete with detailed instructions on how to live..rules to follow for every aspect of your very life.
you know it was a big lie.. you are now naked, staring at your soul.
just you, just your own thoughts, just your own voice, your own feelings.
Well if we are talking about Love the positive, that mix of emotion and thought and heart and mind that overcomes us in our human relationships. I say yes I think we are born with the capability to give and accept love from others. But as so many things in life, we get shaped by our own experiences and some people have a hard time trusting, giving or receiving love from others.
I think that is sad, because that amazing feeling we get when we are with someone you care about or (even sometimes we are not even physically there - could be a thousand miles apart) is about the most wonderful thing you can experience in life.
But it is predicated on finding someone truly special that makes you feel that way. I would hope everyone would get to experience that at least once in life,,,,,,,
gore vidal's death tuesday in los angeles got me to thinking about writers.
i am a writer myself and i know there are many other writers on this forum.
i wanted to open a discussion on writing in the twenty-first century and get other thoughts, opinions and experiences on this.
Quendi,
Nice post, I like the subject. And thank you for reminding me that I somehow, last week managed to lose my coveted Montegrappa Rollerball pen that I purchased in Venice. I loved that pen as an object, for its beautiful feel and lines and for the wonderful memory of finding that little store and buying it.
Now im depressed again,,,,,,

in fact, (unwritten but implied) they should be beaten)!.
Nice one Blondie, after exhausting myself with Dancing Lessons last year, I keenly appreciate the truthfullness of that!
i was reading the incredibly fascinating posts on the "something i heard from our lord" topic, and noticed something that piqued my curiousity.
the jws always say that eve wasn't really guilty of wrongdoing, but rather adam.
after eating from the tree, adam became like god, knowing good and evil.
Adam chose to eat fruit from the tree because Eve had girls night out and didnt make him dinner. Adam had not loaded the Pizza Hut number in his blackberry so made the snap decision to eat rather than wait on Eve. Adam was going to do the laundry but because he messed up last time mixing green fig leaves with white ones, he didnt want to piss Eve off again. Adam thought that if God didnt want him to eat the fruit, God wouldnt have made the tree to begin with (which seems quite logical). And besides he figured if he pissed God off, he would just get a Lawyer and adjudicate the whole thing in court, which is why it took like 900 years,,,,, Anymore questions?

I wonder if everyone here is adhering to the strict dress code while posting on this web site? According to the written guidelines, you must be wearing a pink or blue robe and matching slippers and boxer shorts.
I am compliant are you????
