Belief in God
by desib77 inmy husband and i were laying awake last night discussing religon and life and afterlife.
i asked myself what i believe in and came to only one conclusion.
i believe that there is a god.

Desib, I believe just like you do. I know I believe there is a God, and am lost as far as all the other stuff. I think of course, something must have to happen to us after we die, but what?? Good question. Dont know what they would call us, if they had to come up for a name for us. But good to know there is more than a few of us, whatever we are, out there.

Rutherford Exposed: The Story of Berta and Bonnie

This is all very intriguing. I could not read fast enough. Great stuff Farkel. Thank you for the research, and taking the time to put this all together for us. The more our eyes are opened the better. And true, any lurkers out there with doubts, this could be helpful in opening their eyes tool Good job.

Hi everybody! ^^
by Epsilon ini must say that i have been lurking around this place for a good long while.
to know that you are not alone in your quest to escape the watchtower is one of the best ways to actually do it.. right now i'm 18, but became an unbaptized publisher at 12. i blew those elders away with my skill at parroting back the wts doctrine, and for a while, i was faithful enough in service, which i didn't really enjoy, but i had to do it to live, right?
we went to meetings regularly, even thosugh i simply dreaded the boredom and the inevitable guilt i would feel.

Been there!
I've started exercising my critical thinking skills and have begun to analyze old Watchtower articles
GREAT for you kid, keep at it.
Welcome to the board.

They Aren't Your Friends
by metatron inwhen i announced, at the c.o's meeting with the elders, that i was quiting and giving up, the brother who gave the prayer.
nearly burst into tears.. a couple months later, him and his wife pass us in the hall and hall and sit down in front of us: not a single glance or hello.
or hint of recognition.

"If they shun me then, they were never my friends"
I like this. Smart little cookie! I had similar experiences too with "friends" as I faded. Since then, I have found a couple of very long term, very true friends, who would never turn their back on me. That feels great.

JWs Live In Their Own Little World
by minimus inone thing i'm convinced of is that jws live in their own little bubble.
the world could be in chaos around them but not missing a meeting is what's most important.
children of jws could be going thru teenage trauma or even molestation, but are they getting their "time" in??

They could be going through serious illness, the type where they should be nowhere but laid up in bed, But NO, they are so proud of themselves that they made it to the meeting that night. Nevermind they set their recovery back for weeks, but they made it to one SILLY meeting.

They hired a JW at my job
by dura-luxe ina new girl was hired at my job, and within 4 days it came out that she was a jehovah's witness.
amazing how you could go years without knowing another coworker's religion, but we all had to know about this girl within 4 days.
they had an assembly this weekend, and of course, we all knew exactly why she was taking the day off.

You don't have to handle it any way. Just act towards her like your other co-workers act toward her. The work place is not the place for proseletyzing and conversions, so I would remind her that you are in a professional environment and you'd prefer to keep it that way if she ever starts up. You aren't required to reveal your status to her at any cost.
I couldnt have said it any better. Why do you owe her any explanationat all? We dont go around fretting that we have to explain to non-witnesses, what our witness status or religion is. Why would you want to put the power into her hands, to begin to mistreat you? Keep the ball in your court. I agree too, if she starts to "witless" to you, let her know work is not the place for it.

What grammatical errors bug you the most?
by poppers infor me it's the use of : .
it's as a possessive - it's means "it is", so if you don't want to say "it is" don't use the apostrophe.
there are others that bug me but this one is the worst.

even while I was an active JWS, I was not very interested in studying , I just wanted to underline the WT. I have grown as a person since then, but I find I get brain strain from the trying to figure out how the WTS could take the Bible and twist it so. I get headaches from remembering the Babylon the Great book studies (was it 3 or 4 times we went through it?) I did not understand most of it then, and still do not
I feel exactly the way you do. We used to have to study with encyclopedias, dictionaries, all kinds of wts literature, in addition to the watchtower and bible. All from a ridiculously young age. Like you, I would get headaches, and get so frustrated for not understanding. As a child I had no choice in the matter. So, as an adult, I choose not to get involved in the threads where they split hairs about teachings and doctrines.(more power to the people who can, and I know they have helped others with their insight on things, this is a good thing, and it is wonderful that those who can do it, keep doing it) It's about not wanting to go back to an unpleasant place, thats all. It doesn't mean we are mentally inferior, or clueless, just if we have our own different reasons for coming to this board. Mine is more for the sharing of personal experiences, and finding I have so much in common with other former JW's.

One more thing to account for:
by pillsbury ini was thinking today, another flip flop that effected many people and they never gave a good explanation for is the divorces caused by the "unnatural sex" explanation in the 70's.
first it is a "no no" and you can get a divorce because of it to "it is still wrong but you can not get a scriptural divorce because of it".
they sanctioned the breakup of marriages and then basically said "oops" we shouldn't have said that but don't criticize anyone who did it already and is remarried.

And for whatever region, seems like some regions either get the new light later than others, or decide to RE-engorce old light. My brothers marraige broke up over this, in the late 1990's. That was the first I had ever heard of it.
