My dream last night: an ache in my heart
by Lady Lee inwhen i was 9 my mother escaped for her life from my abusive father.
there were 4 children in the family and she took the two youngest to leave with her sister while she went to find a place to live (this is pre-jw).
she left the oldest of the boys (18 months younger than i was) and i with the parents of one of my school friends.

(((((Lady Lee)))))
We often see on the news reports of child abuse and children being forced to work and take on adult roles at ages where the main concern should be having fun, being loved and filling that young mind through new and wonderous adventures. For the most part I had pictured it being in third world countries, that was until I joined this forum where so many have shared some of the darkest moments of their life.
You are living proof that the human spirit can prevail. Your diligent research, loving posts and kindness have helped many.
Thanks from the heart..Shotgun
Your knitting is pretty good too

How great the wind ..!
by El blanko ini sat yesterday with two friends having a drink on the banks of the river severn.
it was a grey overcast day, a slight breeze, but beautiful all the same.
one of my drinking buddies pointed out that the trees were moving, the grass was moving and the water was rippling and he observed how his mind was enriched by the simply gesture of nature in all it's animated glory.

What's Your Opinion Regarding Spanking A Child?
by minimus indo you think it is ever appropriate?
should it be illegal?
do you think the bible recommends doing this?
-
shotgun
(((Billygoat))) That's despicable of your father.
BBgun's mother and I have two different approaches, I do not spank and she does.
She uses the Invisible God of the Universe Jehovah as her touchstone to make BBgun behave properly, please Jah, love Jah, Jah doesn't like that..and so on.
I try to use love of family and wanting to please each other as the touchstone, a tangible and visible relationship which has true meaning. BBgun will sometimes cry when I tell her how much she's hurt my feelings by doing something which endangered herself or by being disrespectful.(maybe girls are different)
She never under any circumstances get disciplined for accidental issues, spilling something or breaking something accidentally.
It's the 18 months to 3 years stage which is little more difficult to figure out. During that time she did get a couple swats on the bum, but very few and she had padding for several months to soften the blow.

Placed an ad today
by seattleniceguy ina few days ago someone posted an article in the ny times, i believe, that talked about fundamentalist christianity and how its rhetoric about the gruesome destruction of non-believers (as depicted, for example, in the left behind series) was eerily similar to the attitudes in extremist islam.
since leaving the witnesses, i have been angered at their hateful rhetoric, and especially at how they masquerade as a benign, loving religion when they really treat non-believers with contempt when it comes to actual interactions.
it's passive-agressive, especially since they claim that it is not them, but god, who will do the destruction.

The best place to live and why
by Doubtfully Yours ini believe new england, particularly southern new hampshire, is the best place to live because.... 1- enjoy the 4 seasons.. 2- live free or die.
less taxes!.

Farkel and Corvin make compelling cases for SanDiego.

Eating weird things in China
by Leolaia inwell, i guess i can say that on my asian trip i knowingly consumed three new animals i had not eaten before (my apologies to vegetarians on the board who might cringe at the way that was worded).
first off, pigeon.
on my birthday in beijing we ate at a very pricey, fancy restaurant at the hotel and we thought we'd try to pigeon to see what it was like.

A friend with lots of energy will be contacting you soon...No not Jesus!
You know I'm not much into praying anymore but I do keep you in my thoughts and I check this thread to see how things are going.
I've even gone so far as writing your name in every bathroom stall I can find and ask people to think of you while they're just sitting around. I leave them a little message which says that no matter how shitty life gets be thankful for good things you have and when something doesn't smell right act upon it.
We often place so much trust in our doctors and care givers and we don't go with our gut feelings. What you relayed to me about the doctors in your case sadly seems to be a very common occurance.
Oh well...your on the right track now...feeling better, losing weight...you even look taller
Take care..your friend from across the pond..and then some, Shotgun
