Anyone Here Used to Fear Persecution?
by kneehighmiah ini was thinking today about how i no longer have to fear the attack of satan against the jws.
i used to fear being rounded up and beaten by mobs.
seeing my family tortured.

I remember thinking about this as a kid. I use to imagine how the persecution would be like, similar to what was done in Nazi Germany. I use to fear it and prayes to God several times to protect me and my family when that time would come and help us make it into the New World. My parents would use the persecution idea so we would not leave food on our plates or not to get picky about it. They said something like: "eat your food because what are you going to do when the persecution comes around? You won't have anything there to eat but old bread." Looking back at it now it's just crazy, I can't believe I thought that as a kid. Witnesses are still expecting that day when they will be persecuted.

Spring Break! JW kids... Get to WORK!
by Faithful Witness inwhile at my local gas station/convenience store this morning, satisfying my caffeine craving with a big cup of iced tea, i saw 3 separate teams of jw's on their way out into field service.. i wasn't sure at first, but after walking past the car and seeing a young boy i remember from the kh, wearing his suit and tie, it became apparent.
if he and the man escorting him (vaguely familiar to me, but not his father) had not been glaring at me with daggers in their eyes, i might have approached and said hello.
he and my daughter used to play together, even though she does not remember him at all.

In my experience, I was always told to go out during my spring break. Luckily my parents never pushed me a lot to go or forgot about taking me along, except for Saturdays. I was always pushed to go those mornings. Congregation never really mentioned it to me, maybe a few times in my life, but that's only cause I was always in the background and I was never paid much attention to. But I do know of other younger ones who spend their vacation time preaching. They are more of those really motivated JWs.

July 2014 WT cracks down on apostate debates and 'dance parties'
by EndofMysteries inin the july 2014 study wt article titled "jehovah's people "renouce unrighteousness".
par 9 and 10 .
9. how did foolish and ignorant debates affect the early christian congregation?.

They've noticed that there are secret "in the closet" apostates in the congregation. Remember that study article for December 2013? Warnings against those who speculate. It's a crack down and rise in paranoia. I'm gonna hate it when this study comes out, I'll have to be more careful with what I say.
I was also thinking, Paul lived in a time when christianity was still fresh, where there were men who knew the correct way to undsrstand the scriptures, from a biblical view. There were men who taught controversial doctrines but the apostles were still alive. Anyway, the point is that 2,000 years later, there are many religions who claim to be "the truth", believe that they teach the correct thing based on their interpretation of the scriptures. How are we suppose to figure out who's right and wrong? Without examining doctrines, scriptures, and looking at other points of view, it's all one sided. One teaching could be weak and false but you wouldn't know cause it's the only explanation given. No critical thinking.

Preaching to a Captive Audience in CostCutters!!
by AuntBee inso, i'm sitting in the waiting area, and there's this one lady getting one of those long procedures involving color, etc.
so, as the stylist is working on her, i can overhear her preaching to her stylist about demons and immortality of the soul, from wt lit, using her ipad!
she was talking about the topics, referencing the proof verse, and then asking the programmed questions!.

Hey Phizzy, now you can count that on your ex-jw time sheet and turn it in at the end of the month haha.
In my mind, I think there are some people that get turned off when people preach to them or talk about their religion. By using "informal witnessing" too often it can turn people away.

2014 District Convention Releases
by 4thgen inso what do you think will be the new releases this year?
it seems from everything that has been happening that there will be a new and revised reasoning book to embrase all the new 'adjustments'.
also, the proclaimers book has to revamped to take out all the things that honor russell or rutherford, after all they weren't annointed anyway.

A.proclaimer
There was already released two dvd's on their history released a few years ago But of course it fails to mention a lot. Reasoning book I'm sure will be revised sometime soon. Maybe they will do a revised book now since there's so much "new light" flooding in

Creative ways of counting field service time
by 4thgen inthere was a sister in my congregation that signed up to aux pioneer one month to put in 60 hours.
we couldn't figure out why she was never at the arrangements, but yet she said she got in her time early in the month.
we found out later that we wrote a letter that took her an hour.

One time the elder took our car group into a grocery store "looking" for people when really we went there for food and drinks.
the letter idea was funny haha, way to cheat the time.

Is this new donation arrangement for real?
by nugget injust read a post on jwsurvey about the new donation arrangement.
congregations are to pledge a monthly amount to be sent to the society to fund the building of assembly halls and kingdom halls.
congregations who already have a loan from the society will no longer have to pay back the loan but the amount pledged should not be less than the current monthly repayments to the society.

This isn't new for some parts. they tested this method out back in sSeptember 2013 for LA county and other surrounding ones. Just in LA county, there are 72 needed kingdom halls. in the letter, they said that if this method worked, it would be spread onto other places so it was only a matter of time. Theres so much money needed to buy the lands and needed material. This means millions $$$. Somehow, they're soon to earn $375 million alone on selling property in Brooklyn, plus other buildings they haven't sold yet, plus the other Bethel real estates and properties in other countries they sold off and yet, can't have enough funds for the usual arrangements? They must be in some sort of financial crisis or getting prepared for a future one.

I survived a 3-hour manipulation session with 2 elderettes!
by Faithful Witness ini'm not sure how else to describe this meeting at my kitchen table.
my elderette ("miss k") arrived with her friend in tow.
i vaguely remember the 2nd lady ("miss w") from the times we went to the kh, but like miss k, we never really talked in depth.

Theses two ladies are all over the place! Just jumping around, leaping from one place to another. Don't let them get away with this Faithful and Discreet Slave question. Make them investigate it and have them give an "answer" cause apparently, they don't sound too certain about this. After all, you are the Bible study that they're suppose to convert, they should follow the way you feel most comfortable with, not the way they like it. Also, tell her that it's rude to interrupt or just point it out to her politely and stick to the main subject.
The doctrines that reject hellfire, trinity, immortal soul are nothing unique to JWs, you can find these same beliefs in other religions, specifically ones that originate in Adventsim like Christadelphians, seventh day Adventists, Church of God, etc. By pointing out that others teach this, you can ask: if the Faithful and Discreet Slave, supposedly directed by Holy Spirit, provides these essential "bible truths", why do other religions which are not suppose to be true, teach it as well? It's good to remember that Charles Taze Russell had Adventist influences.

Theres this blog you can check out. It's a Christian guy who is having a study with and Elder. They discuss and debate different topics like new light and the FDS. It might give you some ideas on how to tackle them.
