Every time am assembly comes up, we're always told to stay within the assembly and parking lots, and to not go out and eat and later come back. I think one of the places I go for the conventions use to have a place where they sold food but stopped doing that years ago. The food thing could be one reason why they left.

Where Can I Find a Map Of a Congregation's Territory?
by Space Madness inis there anywhere i can find a map of each congregations territory.
preferably congregations in cities such as new york, philadelphia, and washington d.c. since the elder's manual and confidential letters are online i figure this has to exist somewhere as well..

My old hall has maps of the territory of each congregation there, in the rooms of the back of the hall, but the one I go to now doesn't have any. The only ones who probably have access to that information are those in the upper ranks, elders, CO's and such.

If only there were another GB member like Ray Franz
by tornapart ini'm just rereading crisis of conscience and was thinking if only there were others on the gb like him.
maybe things could change for the better.
for instance when he felt troubled that a woman couldn't get a divorce when her husband cheated on her with another man.. his response was this:-"the emotional upset i felt moved me to make a study of the original language terms (in greek) used in matthew, chapter nineteen, verse 9.".

I think that GB members probably have come across certain doctrines they question, but this being "Gods only organization" and because thesee teachings have been so ingrained into the religion, any doubts could be brushed off. And let's face it, being a GB member is no cake, they're probably off doing a lot of organizational work, keeping their minds on other things, planning for future structure of the religion, traveling, and such. They probably don't even take the time to examine things closely. It's like what Ray Franz said, many hardly had time to read the Bible or have a close examination of it when receiving questions. Not to have them off the hook for their actions, they've heard probaby heard opposing points but choose to ignore it or not even deal with It, even if it's reasonable like on the 1914 subject back in the late 70's.
It would be cool to have an ex-GB member tell their story like Ray Franz did, and updated version of today. But it's unlikely there will be one anytime soon. Part of what got Ray Franz to question was his work on Aid to the Bible understanding book and examining things scripturally rather than resort to Watchtower publications.

So my mom called me out on Facebook today
by lriddle80 inmy dad posts the daily text on facebook everyday.
today's text had to do with disfellowshipping and this is what my mom commented on it:.
mom: i have a daughter also who is baptized but not disfellowshipped but doesn't want to learn about jehovah i pray that she see's soon before jehovah closes the door!.

good response! I like how you answered her back nicely and without challenging faiths or getting into a religious debate. that could help her down the line. It's amazing to see how much fear she holds in her, both for disfellowshipping and Armageddon. Sad to see that mentality, to have your own mother think all that. The response is typical, paradise, destruction if you don't follow, knowing that this is "the truth". We all share different perspectives.

Strike 3 for the elderette and me! (???) I never heard a JW talk SO much about Jesus!
by Faithful Witness inmiss k and her friend miss w arrived promptly today.
our scheduled topic of discussion: jesus' claim to be "the way, the truth and the life..." john 14:6 since she was basing this topic choice on the fact that i had quoted that verse, i'm not sure why... she spent what seemed like a very long time, hopping through scriptures that all said that jesus was the truth, the way, or the life.
ok, so we agreed... i kept waiting for her to get to a point, or sway from this principle.. of course, she summed up with scriptures that show how jesus submits to the father, and what does that mean we should do?

Nice job FaithfulWitness, I like how you challenged them there, and left with no good answer to your questions and points. I had a similar conversation about the time and no good explanation for that. I'm in the car with my mom and siblings on the way to the Kingdom Hall, my mom is pushing my brother to become a publisher saying he has to (as a side note, I became a publisher at a really late age for being a born in, almost 20 years old). My brother says he sees no reason to sign up, he thinks it's all for prestige and a title. Then I come in and agree saying there's nothing in the bible that says we have to deliver out time, that's something between you and God. My mom gets defensive and starts to say that the ancient isrealites.. That's where I cut her off and said we're Christians, not Isrealites. She replies saying it's what Jehovah wants, and turns to another point saying that numbers are important to Jehovah, the Bible has many specific numbers like how many people were at pentecost event, tribes or Israel, even one book in the Bible is called "Numbers". I reply saying that sometimes numbers are symbolic, not always literal, and other times they are used to specify and there is nothing or any record of requiring one to report. Even my brother said it was a stretch to say we're required to report numbers based on there being numbers in the bible.
Being a publisher is expected, and if you aren't after being involved with JW's for a long time, they'll look at you strangely. That's what happened to me when I was going to a new congregation. I was given "privileges" like microphones, and when members found out I wasn't a publisher yet, they would give funny looks. The person I was studying with kept telling me to be a publisher. In the end I became one, even though I didn't feel ready. Now I regret it, especially knowing TTAT now. If I wasn't a publisher, I could get off the hook easier. As for my siblings, in our old congregation, the elders wouldn't let them preach with someone else, besides my mom, and they're not even children. So to say that being a publisher is because you want to, isn't always the case. It's expected and pushed on if you want to be a JW.

Thanks for sharing this, I find this subject to be very interesting, although complex. Carl Olof Jonsson did a great job with his book, investigating all the facts. I'm signing up for it.
