Did you get " Counseled " about the Music you Listened to While you were a JW ?

from the time i was a small boy - i loved rock n' roll music.

beatles, rolling stones, led zeppelin, hendrix.

i started getting slighted for the music i listened to as i lay in my bedroom listening on headphones to led zeppelin's song " black dog " at age 14 with my elder dad looking suspiciously at me as i'm rocking out .

I think the music has shifted away more from rock and roll since its from an older generation at this point, at least for classic rock bands. I say this because I knew of a ministerial servant who liked rock and played in a rock band when he was younger JW. An elders son is into classic rock and the heavier stuff. Once a heavy screamo type song popped up by accident at a party when music was being played out of his iPod (oops). His dad (the elder) liked classic rock. But there is still a sting on it. One Sunday talk mentioned alternative rock and how it's too heavy to listen to and so on. Except "alternative rock" is a really vague genre, could range from soft indie rock to heavy grunge. Growing up, I was told to be careful by my parents but I like listening to classic rock.

Nowadays it's probably more like rap or pop music. There's a lot of suggestive and explicit lyrics there, more direct than in classic rock.

The music sounds more.. "Commericalized". Probably not the right word but what I mean is that they're trying to make it more appealing to everyone. Long gone are the days when you had full orchestra arrangements and melodic songs, now here are the synthesizers, more rythmic, catchier tunes. Personally, I liked the sounds of the older songs from the brown book better. But it could just be nostalgia.

My experience with the people in my hall

i've been awake now for about 6 months i'd guess and a member here for a couple of weeks.

it's been eye opening to read other peoples experiences on here and i appreciate all of you.

i've noticed in many, seemingly most, of your comments that you were not treated well at your hall or you have had very negative experiences in the "org" so i thought i'd like to share mine.. in all my time as a jw i have to say for the most part i always loved the people.

I'd say overall I've had good experiences with others as well, and I still do since I still go to the meetings. Only very few bad experiences but nothing that's a big deal or really impacting. The main reason is that I keep to myself. I don't know anyone at the hall at a deeper level aside from saying hi and some basic things. Never had close friendships in the congregation. I like to fly under the radar. I remember when I was a kid, my mother told me to keep my distance when it comes to brothers and sisters like she did, because the rumors and things people do.

if anyone had to guess, what do you think the average age of the community actually is?.

are more millennials actually waking up or is it pretty even amongst previous generations as well?

I'm a millennial, same as magotan. I've wondered this same question myself. I've always assumed that most people here were born before the 90s.

One thing I have noted in the ex-jw community is that most content is aimed at older generations or is done by older ones. Not so many things done by younger people or in the typical YouTube style for videos. I'm not complaining since these videos are helpful many, it's just something I've noticed.

a korean man named lee jin-gyr fell in love with a life sized pillow called a " darkimakura" .

the pillow has the image of a cartoon character named fate testarossa on it from an animated cartoon mahon shaojo.

the 28 year old man takes the pillow with him everywhere and they eventually married.. this is part of a growing subculture of men in japan who engage in relationships with pillows that have cartoon characters on them.

Theres also "waifu", Internet slang term for anime wife. It's related to those pillows you talked about. Look it up.

Honeymoon over for the carts

speaking with inlaws i another congregation today who said exactly what is being said in our own hall.

the trolly work is long and boring and no one even notices they are there anymore but walk right on by.

jehovah really is speeding up the work lol.

I've done the trolleys twice now and it's quite boring. At least wiyh regular service you're always walking around. During our group meeting before Saturday morning preaching, the elder assigned some people to the trolley. One more person was needed but no one really wanted to volunteer to do the cart.

Under my experience, there have been some people who have gone up to the carts but it's only one or two at most. Sometimes no one comes up. My mother got a number of people but only because she went up to talk to them, although the rules are you aren't suppose to talk to anyone and just stand there. One time, to entertain myself and a kid that was with me, we played "I spy".

My Bthel Experince Part 19 The Last Chapter..(really) Bethel Overseers

there were other people who either killed themselves or tried to kill themselves while they were at "the house of god.

one person who did kill himself was richard wheelock, press room overseer ......he jumped out of a window at the watchtower farm one day.

it seemed, he was never quite the same after his wife "willy" died.

What I am wondering is if 1975 had any impact or mention of inside bethel or was this more on the congregation level?

his folks had a fit and told him he had to go back and "do his time".........and do the "right thing"...........he told me he had just left max larson’s office, max had just told him “what a disappointment he was, to his family and to the organization!

Wow such a sad story. He had no real way out. This is something we would have never known or heard about had it not been for posts like these. Does anyone know if this story was caught on by the press?

My Bethel Experience Part 16

we are nearing the end of the journey.......so this next two chapters will be called "odds and ends" or things i didn't put in the right chapters..........because i thought of them after those chapters were written..... .

bethel joke.

three guys are sitting around, each drinking a large glass of beer.........a publisher, a pioneer and a bethelite.......just then, a fly lands in all three of their glasses of beer........the publisher....pushes the glass away and says....."i can't drink this now"...........the pioneer looks over, and picks the fly out of the beer and keeps on drinking............the bethelite.........picks up the fly by its wings and holds its head over the glass and says "spit it out......spit it out!

Where's part 15? Or maybe it was a typo. Nevertheless, I enjoy reading these bethel stories, and any stories from the past. Really gives a different perspective to us from future generations.
