I was a self righteous dub and gave co-workers the turkeys and made a point to let people know that I donated the xmas gift for the worldwide work, seeing that the employer already thought I was nuts, there was no way to return the check. What a crock of crap!

As a JW did you "take a turkey" or accept the Xmas Bonus?
by confusedjw ini felt it hypocritical to take a turkey abviously meant for thanksgiving.
i didn't like buying the easter candy after easter either as it was "food sacrificed to idols".. years ago at a place i worked they gave out a xmas bonus which i returned.
( a few hundred dollars which we sure could have used) they assured me that it was an "end of the year" bonus.

The doctrine of the Tri-Part man.
by LittleToe inrecently there have been discussions about the immortal soul, v's the wts beliefs, so i thought i'd present a little heard of (in jw circles) doctrine of the soul that seeks to explain some passages of scripture that are usually avoided.. first of all, leo posted some fascination information, which gives some background on the bible's general teaching on the soul:.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/11/80742/1319806/post.ashx#1319806.
the doctrine itself surrounds two texts in particular, which i quote from the nwt:.

I know we have words over the years, but I totally agree with your post. Having wrestled with the Greek and Hebrew over many years, as well as many of the Church Fathers writings, it is now easier for me to understand and harmonize, as you have presented it in an eloquently simplistic manner i.e. the diagram.
peace and blessings,

Deja Vu?
by heart2heart indo you ever experience "deja vu" - the feeling of having experienced the exact same moment before?
sometimes this happens to me - usually when it happens i can vaguely remember having a dream about it, and sometimes i can remember exactly what is going to happen next because the dream is so vivid (funny...when i remember the dream, i can remember thinking "this is going to happen...i remember this too..." deja vu of deja vu???).
does anyone know anything about deja vu or have any explanations?

Yes, more often when I'm traveling, staying in tents, on a beach in a hammock. A few years ago at Xunantunich (Western Belize Maya Site) while on top of the highest tower I sat on the limestone, and soon was in a ceremony seeing the people below and the rites performed on the temple. It began to rain, but I was unware, and finally when the "dream" was over, I realized how wet (and slick) the limestone had become and had to shimmy down the temple staircases. When I got to the bottom I walked back to San Igancio (roughly 8 miles) in a daze, then found myself in town very quizical.

Enjoyed the haiku and the poem, I too write poetry and plays. I wrote this poem this weekend about fall, the dog, and waking up to a fall morning.
It is 6:15 a.m.,Sassy is ready to go crunch leaves
Shakes her ears, stretches long, and jumps off the couch.
The Dalmatian shakes her ears again and announces to the world:
It is 6:15 a.m., Sassy is ready to go crunch leaves.
I put my clothes on, as Sassy paces and dances in tight circles.
Sassy is ready to go crunch leaves.
The frosted leaves crunch the best.
The 6:15 a.m. walk is better than the 9:15?
On the walk the leaves are already moist from the sun,
But on the earlier walk the leaves go crunch, crunch, crunch; crunch.
Sassy runs in circles fast, faster to crunch leaves and stops to smell.
Sassy loves the smell of crunched leaves, and then goes off for a run.
Sassy loves to crunch the leaves, reveling in crunch, crunch; crunch.
It is 6:15 a.m., Sassy is ready to go crunch leaves.

One elder said I would be better off dead, another said I would die within a month with a "needle in my arm and a quart of whiskey by my bed" after I said goodbye to pioneering and the congos. What negative beasts - but I once was one too. I just published my latest collection of poetry and I have never felt better. That's until I read the Bible Code and they have the next year coming with smallpox, revolution, insurrection, and Ron Artest's newest rap CD, "I bust em up in the Motor City."

Maybe they could show Serena doing a photo shoot and then play 5 seond clips of Prince and Michael, all the while presenting subliminal messages across the bottom of the screen like "The good life - serve Jehovah", or "We're well rounded folks, we love our kids" , or "Not everyone is too busy preaching, right Serena, you tell them Michael." Then again, maybe Ted could expound on "keeping the congregation clean and you'll have no worries when you bring your children to our Halls..."

Why didn't we help these women?
by Tatiana inin the eastern democratic republic of the congo, women are enduring unspeakable acts of violence while the world remains largely unaware.
"they cut me with knives and machetes.
then they asked my sons to hold my legs and hands apart and started raping me--all eight of them.

Hey man, "Deacon Blues" and the rest of the Scotch drinking theological circle need to work somewhere. If they don't entertain, they get the boot. Just a gig, so what's the problem. People pay for lap dancers, shrinks, magicians, horoscope readers, and preachers. It's all cool, just another "brick in the wall."
