Congratulations!! I did the same as you 6 years ago and dread to think of what it would be like if I hadn’t made this leap. Life is so much more worth living without constraining, restraining people watching over you and your having to pretend to be someone you’re not!

Netflix Docuseries - The Keepers
by sillygirlforgotpassword inhas anyone watched the netflix documentary series called "the keepers"?
it's a true life based series about the murder of a nun and the associated coverup (church + state).
it was riveting to see how much can be swept under the carpet (even today?!

It was riveting to see how much can be swept under the carpet (even today?!) to keep someone's dirty laundry out in the closet. If anyone here happens to watch it, I look forward to hearing your comments.

I was in India (Kerala) last month for my sister’s wedding – she just got married to a Bethelite (Lord save her), and I thought I should add my two pence here.
- Kerala definitely has a lot of JW’s
- Keralites (and a lot of south Indians) take religion super seriously. Most mornings, in the village where I was at, I would wake up to the shrieking sounds of women screaming out their devotion to Jesus, Hindu chants to whoever, and the required call for prayer (this wasn’t the loudest though. It’s a contest. All of them used deafening speakers – the decibel levels were incredible. All this starts at 4:30 in the morning. Never seen noise pollution like this before.
- Ok I just got off the phone with my mum and she says they’ve placed more speakers closer to their front gate (like wth!)
- My sister has told me of a bizarre Hindu custom where devotees attach themselves to hooks, and get dragged through the streets. Apparently this has happened in my parents’ village. Do not open this link if you’re lighthearted: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3414449/Worshippers-display-devotion-piercing-skin-hooks-spikes-Hindu-festival.html
- People generally don’t turn you away, you can walk uninvited into a person’s house to start preaching with no introduction. The subject of God is welcome in most environments
- Poverty is rampant in many parts of India. Like one of the posters said, a lot of people will switch to a new church as soon as they receive more benefits. I’m sure that’s how my ancestors converted to Christianity (from Hinduism). The missionaries brought with them opportunities for education, healthcare etc
- There’s definitely a lot of “local” JW customs and rules. This is partly why the society (? Do we still use this word?) is inviting all the non-resident Indians to go back to India. Probably to knock some sense into the poor locals being JW their own way
- I had this pest of a middle aged anointed JW bother me throughout the time I was there. As if sitting through a meeting wasn’t hard enough, he would come after to badger me saying I HAD to move to india to take care of my parents (believe me they’re just fine), take my sisters place and do the full time ministry. That there was no use in living where I do because there are enough JW’s here and India is the place to be. I started to rudely ignore him after the first couple of times this happened. (bad me I know, but he was just a pain!)

I'm just glad to be back home now. I need a vacation from my vacation! :P

I came here three years ago for support and to make friends
by KateWild inthis site is such a great and valuable resource and simon is to be commended for running it for so long.
when i first came i was in such a bad state and really needed support and friendship.
so many posters commented on my threads and showed genuine care some are real life friends, some are facebook friends, some i talk to on the phone and some are forum friends.. i have just realised though that everyone online is not your friend.

Hey Kate
Im sure you're a lovely person and looking for friends is important, but like someone pointed out in this thread u need to find yourself before you can find your friends.
It sounds lame I'm sure but I've been helped to connect more with myself through yoga and meditation. Highly recommend eckhart tolle's "power of now".
peace outxx

Yoga. Evil practice?
by Darkknight757 inas our fade continues, the wife and i have decided to take up "the forbidden practice of.......yoga"!!!!😱.
i was quite skeptical at first but so far it has really de-stressed our life in quite a spectacular way!!
not to mention the physical benefits.. anyone else try yoga or a similar discipline?
-

Yoga helped me immensely. To be more flexible. Focus on positive thinking and just improve my physical state. I was doing vinayasa yoga but hatha is also good. Kundalini yoga was a bit creepy for me but typical modern yoga is very good for the mind body and soul :) -

Touching scene from angel-A
by sillygirlforgotpassword ini was going through a pretty rough patch the last couple of weeks after a breakup, a "vacation" spent at my parents, some health scares and other random thoughts the realization i'm not 25 and as toned and consistently fresh faced anymore (feel free to call me shallow because that i am ;).
i fully agree that we aren't to worry about aging, but aging gracefully!
2 weeks at home spent being harassed by my parents for not being up to the spiritual mark didn't help either.

2 weeks at home spent being harassed by my parents for not being up to the spiritual mark didn't help either. other bad memories were relived including some about being sent away to boarding school when barely 5 (I still have abandonment issues), being locked alone in an a dark tiny room while told there were rats on the floor etc. all of this sent me to a depressive state.
I met someone very recently who's helping me feel better through something called "healing technique". Too early to say if it's really helping yet but I'm liking it so far.
Anyway I was shown this video at a time when my self worth was at a pretty low point. Taken from a recent French Luc Besson movie. To those that haven't seen it it's really worth a watch :)

News Which UK J.W.'s Won't Get in their Kigdom Ministry!
by The Searcher ina source tells me the following: .
for shropshire uk by the name of anthony manning has been removed and judicially reproved.
portishead congregation in north somerset is being merged or disbanded on sept 1st 2015 due to "aging elders, poor attendance, decrepit kingdom hall and landslip" - of course the suspicion is wt just wants to sell the hall off.

I JUST saw this!
Anthony manning was CO/DO to congs in the middle east for a term. He stayed at our place one time. My family adored him. They probably will never know about this removal but I'm mighty curious.
he definitely spent a lot of time with the lads and my mum kept saying my brothers should learn from him to be single and a CO.
I have heaps of pictures with him maybe one day ill post them. Here's to hoping he's seen light.

My sister, a special/regular pioneer in india (I can't ever remember which!) just confirmed that no magazines will be printed.
She was curious though about how I found out - whoops!
