My active JW wife has gone to all meetings, assemblies, memorials, and service groups by herself after I faded off the radar about 5 years ago. I asked her this past Saturday as she prepared to join another sister from the KH for the service group regarding, “voluntary donations.” I inquired if publishers still mention this to the householder when placing literature. Her answer was that anyone she works with including the pioneers has stopped mentioning this arrangement at all. She said that this has been happening for a very long time now.
She added that all the demonstrations at the Service Meeting regarding placing literature rarely/never include a reminder with the individual tying in the “voluntary donation arrangement.” Apparently these demos have been presented this way for quite some time now. Has there been an official change, or have the publishers just dropped this request for money all on their own? We were always told that our literature had tremendous “value” and a real cost was involved in producing it. We didn’t want the householder to think that this information was insignificant or trivial. We used to receive regular reminders about this in the WTS literature and service groups.
KM January 2006 p. 5 - Ways to Mention the Donation Arrangement
“If you would like to make a small donation today toward our worldwide work, I will gladly accept it.”
“Although our literature is offered without charge, we do accept modest donations for our worldwide work.”
“You may wonder how we can afford to do this work. It is because our worldwide work is supported by voluntary donations. If you wish to make a small donation today, I will be pleased to accept it.”
I’m wondering what the situation or trend is like in your area?

The List, by "Prominent Bethelite"
by morloc ini occasionally pop through here to catch up on the latest, but this time i'm going to pop my own post on here.. some of you internet oldsters may even remember this.
my first experience on the internet regarding discussions about jehovah's witnesses and the watchtower took place on a now-obscure usenet group, before i eventually stumbled across hourglass2.. during those days, there was a poster who went by the name "prominent bethelite," an otherwise anonymous individual whom i remember most for an extensive, exhaustive compilation of date-oriented remarks, predictions, and expectations by the watchtower organization down through the decades of its history.. it became known as "the list" and it's definitely lengthy... but a fascination look at the abundance of errant statements made through the watchtower's history.. if you're curious, it's been available for a long time on hourglass2's site, and can be seen using the link provided below.. the list, compiled by prominent bethelite (1999).
that's about it for this stop through here.

rebel8: Great compilation of predications stating that Armageddon will come in this, (now past) the 20th century.
All JW’s are taught from the beginning of their indoctrination this well-known scripture.
(Matthew 24:36) “Concerning that day and hour nobody knows, neither the angels of the heavens nor the Son, but only the Father.”
In the year 1961 the end of the 20th was still 39 years away. The WTS leaders must of thought, since the Bible says “that day and hour nobody knows,” we should be safe to at least predict the century it will all happen in. Surely we can’t get that wrong.
Awake! 1961 Feb 22 pp. 5, 7, 8 in this 4 page article the WTS leadership felt smug and self-assured enough to mention on 3 pages that Armageddon would occur in the 20th century.
Pg. 5 The destruction of the wicked, “followed by a paradise earth without death–all to be realized in the twentieth century.”
Pg. 7 “That now-operating kingdom in heaven will, within the twentieth century, cleanse the entire earth of wickedness.”
Pg. 8 “Revelation 16:16 calls it the ‘war of the great day of God the Almighty,’ Armageddon. This war will come in the twentieth century. It will come right on schedule,.....”
I can’t help but think the WTS leaders felt strongly that a window of time of almost 40 years in length would clearly show them finally as being true prophets. It would end the ridicule and mocking from previous failed pronouncements! But little did we know that during this time period they would add another layer of anticipation regarding the year 1975.
This created a renewed passion and expectation for the end, which came to a crashing disappointment and complete embarrassment. After the 1975 debacle the WTS still had 25 more years before the 20th century ended. Maybe just maybe, their leader Jesus had not led them astray on this prediction coming true. He had chosen them as his own since 1919, and would surely not cause them further humiliation. Well we all know how those declarations made decades ago turned out! Enjoy the rest of 2014.......but while you're at it, hand over your money.

"But the Basics haven't changed"
by Phizzy ina couple of days ago in town i met a jw guy i have known since he was a kid in diapers, he is now an elder and must be 40 yrs old, still a kid to me, though.. he gave me the spiel about "we would love to see you come back " , i said that i could not come back to the religion i had left as it no longer existed (a line i got from my friend bill), this elder replied that there "had been changes, but the basics remain the same".. i just was not quick enough with this one, i just sort of nodded at that and went on about what i simply could not swallow as "truth".
overlapping generation etc etc.. what he was meaning by the basics being the same is that nothing has changed on the "what jw's don't believe in" front, i.e trinity, immortal soul etc.
the reality it is that the basics of jw/wt teachings about what they do believe in have all changed !.

Thanks, OwnAccordmuch appreciated. “DEMONSTRATION: Brother talking to young brother who gave a good lecture in school about animals. Then they talk about what kind of animals they look forward to playing with. Tigers and gorillas.”
What a crock of…….!!!
(Ecclesiastes 1:9). . .There is nothing new under the sun. These assemblies are repetitive, lame and boring. They better dig up some old mentally stimulating talks about the “type and antitype” “grafted and grafting” etc. These young millennials (22-34 yrs. old) are missing out on all the great talks given years ago by the GB 1.0. Let them sit through that crap too. Instead they play around with their tablets and smartphones. Guess I’ll stop now!!
