My parents say every year: "That was the BEST, most encouraging convention EVER! They get better every year." I don't know why, but of all the things they say, that one strikes me as the most delusional, because it seems to me the conventions get more infantile every year. :(

LMAO! "Oh I attend wiccan drumbeat circle..." ROTFL! Nah, I don't think that would work so well.

Yesterday we went over to a BBQ at the home of one of my husband's coworkers. There was a JW couple (neighbors) there, who we were friends with when we attended their congregation about 6 years ago. They're in the same hall with my in-laws. I never knew the husband well, but always got on pretty good with the wife. (In fact, something that happened to her was one of many catalysts for me to begin questioning WT policy.)
Anyways, I anticipated having a conversation like this, and hadn't decided how to respond, but figured I'd just leave it up to whatever whim inspired me, if she actually asked. Here's how it went:
Dub: "What congregation are you attending now?"
Me: "We don't."
Her: "What do you mean, not any?"
Me: "Nope"
Her: "What HAPPENED?"
Me: "You probably don't want me to answer that..."
Her: "You should come back to ours, it's really nice now, it's totally changed, you wouldn't believe the difference, everybody talks to each other, lots of answering, good attendance."
(At this point I really REALLY wanted to ask her which elders moved out. Ha! But I didn't)
Me: "Yeah, we won't be doing that."
Her: "I'm going to call you, I have to know."
Me: "Okay, but don't say I didn't warn you."
I really doubt I'll hear from her. They are very active, and it's most likely that she will relay the conversation to her elder husband who will see APOSTATE written all over that conversation, and forbid her from calling me. But you know what? I feel GREAT that I didn't give some non-committal, protect-the-fade answer. I won't pretend to JWs anymore.

Did I miss something? Is this the new resolution at the D.Convention?
by Star Moore in1. we are determined to intensify our preaching activity.
2. to live up to our dedication to jehovah and give him exclusive devotion.
3. to follow jesus' example closely and be no part of the world.

Dave: Aye to all but that first one. I have some spare opinions, and sometimes they just come tumbling out, especially when standing in the neighbor's yard.

Overheard: the Witnesses I know react to the Cano incident
by under_believer inpresented for your perusal, horror, and edification.
i take no responsibility for these statements--they are the verbatim comments of people that i know.
i find my wife's comment heartening, since it implies that she knows that elders are not necessarily spirit-directed.

Unfortunately, I believe that this high-profile case where WT dismissed him immediately from their ranks, will be seen as "proof" by the rank and file that "Jehovah protects his clean organization." If it could be proven that there were complaints against him that were kept confidential, or that someone was aware of his mountain of kiddie porn, maybe it would have a different effect. But his dismissal and likely subsequent disfellowshipping will be spun as a positive for the WT. "See how well we handle this sort of thing? The Catholics would be just moving him to another parish. WE kicked him out." sickening.
But they are masters of spin. -

Show me where, one time, I have said that OPV should not be used in a developing country. I haven't, and you persist in saying that I have. I have said, as has the CDC, that developed nations, such at the US, where it is readily available, has NO REASON to continue using OPV, though it continues to be the most effective treatment in developing nations.
Vaccines are not "safe," they are simply better than the alternative in most instances. But to blindly believe that they are completely safe is foolish. It's not "conspiracy theory," I don't believe that there is any attempt to do harm with vaccinations. It's simply good sense to realize that even good medicine can be dangerous under certain circumstances, and people would do well to know exactly what is being injected into their bodies, and what the pros and cons are, BEFORE accepting treatment.
So again, show me where, one time, I have said that OPV should be discontinued in 3rd world countries?
