Shallowness in 4/29 Watchtower study
by Rattigan350 inmove forward as a spiritual person.. paragraph 2 "robert and his wife began passing time by quizzing each other on bible subjects.
his wife, a spiritually strong person, had no problem answering the questions, but robert found himself constantly embarrassed, not knowing what to say.".
there is no indication of how she fits the template of a spiritual person other than she can answer bible trivia.

Need advice/opinions about DF Husband who woke up
by Whynot inmy husband was df 3 years ago.
i still attended meetings but not regularly and for the past 10 months i have not attended any at all.
my husband wanted to get reinstated until maybe a few months ago when i started to help him to wake up.

Do you think it would be good for him to go back, jump through the hoops to get reinstated, just so he can have some fake friends who would throw him under the bus the second they knew what he really thought? The effort it would require to get back in good with the JWs, just so you could have friends, could be spent in so much more interesting ways, such as joining a hobby club or special interest group where you both could make friends that wouldn't being lying liars who lie, and who might actually like you both for real.

much more likely that this is the classic anti-woman rhetoric that she needs to demonstrate submissiveness by dumbing herself down so her husband can retain his Man-of-the-Household ego.

Withdrawing community support in the congs
by purrpurr ini've noticed in the past 10 years that the social support that used to be available in the congs, a shoulder to cry on, elders to help with family/marriage issues these seem to have been purposely withdrawn.
counsel is even heard from the platform that the elders are not there to help people with their problems.. so first in the 80s-90s they take away the congregation get to getters and social events and now they seem to be going one step further in taking away the emotional support for people too.. this will take away an aspect that i'm sure was keeping alot of people in the borg, the community support.
if that's not there and its just about meetings and ministry how many will start to get their emotional support elsewhere?.

Letters Project - What do I say to my family
by Odrade inhey my old friends, i figured since this is where we landed when we first fled the watchtower, looking for support, back in '03, maybe i should pop back in and show you my latest project - i see some familiar faces around here.
i've been working on a website to function as part story, part news.
my plan is to feature what people are doing to integrate/reintegrate into their community - whether that's remaining in the xjw circles to help others who are leaving, or moving out into the larger social sphere and starting projects, being activists for other causes, etc.

Hey Bill, maybe you could shoot me a link when you put them online? I will keep an eye out for your webpages to go live. I don’t know about a profanity filter, so maybe it would be better to link them wherever you host, if it fits the scope of my project. Thanks!

JW's are slaves- but not in a good way
by joey jojo ini was reading about the american slave trade again recently.
as anyone who has read anything about the subject knows, it makes for very uncomfortable reading.
every time i read the history, i'm left with a sense of outrage and seething anger at the pure inhumanity and injustice of what life must have been like for those people.
-

They even use the language of the slave trade, calling all of the positions "overseer," instead of more traditional religious terminology like deacon, priest, pastor, minister, bishop.

Thanks for the kind words. I think maybe there are fewer letters like this, because they're just so damn hard to write. When you write to family after leaving, it's almost impossible to detach from the emotion - whether love, anger, grief, sadness, frustration...
I hope it helps people. Not everybody will need something like this, and that's a good thing. I'm always in favor of a good fade, if possible, but it's not always possible, is it?
I can tell you this community talked me down off a ledge several times, when I might have been inclined to scorch everything and salt the earth.

Hey my old friends, I figured since this is where we landed when we first fled the Watchtower, looking for support, back in '03, maybe I should pop back in and show you my latest project - I see some familiar faces around here. Hi!

Leaving Omelas - Walking Away from the TowerMy pet project with this website is to gather and curate letters (or links to letters,) that our community has written to friends and family. This was so hard for me after leaving, I posted messages that I wanted to send, several times right here on JWD. I know I saw a number of other letters in the several years I checked in here daily. A few years back, when I went to write THE letter I eventually sent, I needed the help of others' examples, but it was hellish trying to find any that had been shared. You can read a bit about that in the post linked below, if you like.
What do I say to my family?
This project is obviously in its infancy, and I'll take all the help I can get. I should probably make it really clear that I'm not looking to rip off any content. Letters that have been shared publicly will be linked, unless I get direct permission to post on my site. If you've got links or letters that you think could be helpful in this project, please contact me. PM here or through the website, wherever you feel comfortable. I understand that a lot of us still need to maintain our anonymity.
