Went to one day assembly at the weekend.....
by The Scotsman ini was at the one day assembly at the weekend - we are the clay, jehovah is the potter.. this was the first assembly i have been at as a "thinking" person.. one of the talks mentioned how the world can "prime" our minds.
he said - people just follow what they hear, do not question it, believe anything.. and i thought - hmm, i am surrounded by people like that!!.
a young sister i know was up for baptism - when she stood up to say yes to the couple of questions i just wanted to shout "dont do it".

jaguarbasswe are connected, what you wrote mirrors my thinking. I too read the Bible five times,different versions and came to the same conclusions. Money$$$ is important, without it you are locked down, with it you are free to go and do what you want. I made it to 62 and spent over 33 years in the Watchtower. I'm free and trying to recover from all the money and opportunities that the Watchtower took from my life.

Correcting Misinformation
by minimus inif you see that something a poster states is actually inconsistent or inaccurate, will radar go off in your head to call the person on it?
i think we should be more aware, not paranoid or judgmental, but more alert to phony posters or those that try to spread inaccurate information.

Especially when it is heresay. I heard such and such and he/she said it was just between us ok. Then before you know it, the whole world hears about it, it becomes hearsay and the gospel truth.
When you invoke someones name that's supposed to make it the truth. So and So, you know between us ok. He said next year, just wait, it's confidenial for now, but soon I'll be able to let you know.
Misquoting, misinformation, he said she said, that was then, this is now, they changed that, where were you when this information was given out. Your not up to date. Did you hear the latest? On and on.
Correcting the damage from misinformation is not so easy to do. Still if we know otherwise we should clear the air and put things straight.

No. The reason I feel this way is because TheWatchtower Society tries to strip the individual identity and distinctness of each person by the complete assimilation of the individual into a collective body. They have successfully accomplished this with most persons who become Jehovah's Witnesses. Others have escaped this coercion to be identified with a collective whole.
And so, I do not hate Jehovah's Witnesess. What is to be hated is the Watchtower's stripping the individuality's identity and distinctness and assimilating the individual into a collective body with no room for that person to have their own individuality. They must conform.
They has been done this to me for some 33 years, then I became my own person. My own individuality and distnctness broke free.

Exciting announcements at service meeting
by truthseeker inwe've already had a post on this, but there were other interesting comments.. the brother giving the announcements said that there would be a new understanding of jesus' reference to the generation as discussed at the annual meeting.. an elder giving a service meeting part review of different watchtower articles from the current year brought out the new light concerning 1935.. he asks: "when is the sealing of the anounted ones?".
elder answers: "there is no specific date".
later after the meeting, i asked an elder if the new understanding of the remnant now meant that younger people could go to heaven.. he answered with an affirmative "yes" and that we would be getting the new understanding of the generation jesus spoke of in a future 2008 watchtower.. .

New Understanding!??? Exactly when was this New Understanding revealed? To whom was it revealed? Was it revealed to a single individual or to a collective body? What do the Elders know and how do they know it? Why now and not sooner? Timing and dating go hand in hand. Where are we in the stream of time that makes this a New Understanding.
How do the scriptures in "THE NEW WORLD TRANSLATION" teach one thing at one time and the complete opposite at another time?
This New Understanding is not New at all. The Bible reveals that "ALL" those who believe in Jesus and follow him go to Heaven.

The transformation from evil JW to freedom-fighter XJW- Instantaneous?
by nvrgnbk inthe degree of hatred being expressed by some here towards individuals in the jw cult is difficult for me to understand.. why?.
because most of us were jehovah's witnesses at one time.. how did this transformation from "evil, disgusting, murderous, bloodthirsty" jehovah's witness to "enlightened, free, open-minded, compassionate" ex-jw take place?.
were we bad the last day we were witnesses but good the next?.

Nvr, very insightful topic. I am still me. What I have learned has not changed me as me. Information has removed the Illusion, the concept, that I was once held captive to. Now I am open to help others escape from this Illusion.
Jesus said: By your own words you are condemned. So it goes with the Watchtower Society.We don't have to attack the Watchtower, only use their own words in print etc. to remove the Illusion.

Mini! Armageddon is never coming from Jehovah, Jesus, God, Gods, Him, Her, It. Armageddon if it happens will be MAN'S doing with the use of Nuclear Weapons, with Nuclear Winter to follow. Other than that life will go on, we will pass on and so forth. What's on the other side??? We will find out when we die.
No more scare tactics from the Watchtower for me. I'm more afraid of what mankind is capable of doing. What will our grandchildren face???
Sorry Mini, I got off topic here. Well I made it through two years without a "The End Is Near" knock on the door. Hopefully I can avoid armageddon cries for the rest of my life.
