Watchtower disputes $200K tax bill from Newburgh
by Rattigan350 inhttp://www.recordonline.com/news/20180904/watchtower-disputes-200k-tax-bill-from-newburgh.
town of newburgh — the watchtower bible and tract society of new york is challenging nearly $200,000 in fire and other special district taxes assessed for three town of newburgh properties, including two hotels the organization bought to house volunteers helping build its world headquarters in warwick.. in a petition filed in orange county court last month, the umbrella organization for jehovah’s witnesses claimed that the town “either unintentionally as a mistake or intentionally and without lawful authority” miscoded the former hilton on crossroads court and the former hampton inn on route 300 for 2016, 2017 and this year.. with a combined market value of nearly $23 million, the hotel properties were not assessed town, county and school taxes for those years.
but the town assessed $196,000 charges for the orange lake fire district and lighting and water districts during those years.. newburgh also assessed $1,600 in special district taxes over three years for a vacant commercial property watchtower owns at route 17k and route 300.. “petitioner would not be required to pay the resulting unjust charges if its exemption from taxes had been justly, correctly, and lawfully granted and administered,” watchtower’s attorneys wrote in the organization’s petition in county court.. watchtower bought the two hotel properties in 2014 as it built its 1.6 million-square-foot headquarters on kings drive in warwick.

They save them money by not calling the police on pedofiles. Therefore they shouldn’t have to pay taxes, makes sense. -

The Latest Thing Waking People Up...
by pale.emperor insince i woke up and left i've been contacted by others i knew from my youth who've also left the cult.
also people around the world on facebook adding me out of the blue because we have mutual friends and they occasionally ask me stuff or share their story.. what i've noticed in the vast majority of cases, is that people are waking up not because of the arc or doctrine but apathy.
active jws are becoming less and less interested, less and less bothered.

I was ok with all the work when I thought I was actually learning something. But when the meetings and publications became just “milk” for over 5 years my brain was soft enough to realize it had been tricked for all those years.

Undue Influence
by Lee Elder inthis is what "undue influence" looks like.
it's how you train someone to abandon their children, become a martyr, and drink the kool-aid.
watchtower november 15, 2013. p.19, para.

That was back when they still pretended they cared about those that had “drifted away”. Now you must be shunned if you waiver in your faith

Jesus with an iPad. Really?
by punkofnice inat a local meeting, one of the elders said that if jesus were on the earth today 'you can be sure' he would be preaching by showing videos on a tablet.. i kid you not.. i wonder what videos he'd be playing?.
obviously this was the elder's own pet theory.
wasn't it?.

And if the HH has questions Jesus would direct them to jw.or because he wouldn’t be able to defend his faith.

Praying for apostates
by BubbaBoBobBrain ini had heard that jehovah's witnesses cannot pray for disfellowshipped individuals or apostates.
is this true?.

I have never seen a religion have so much control over how members pray. Can’t have an unbeliever pray for you, don’t say amen if an unbeliever prays in your presence, don’t pray over a householder in service, don’t pray for a disfellowshipped one
im so glad the GB is inspired enough to provide all this “insight” that god forgot to put in the Bible

How to deal with struggling with the doctrines
by Dval inthis is my first post.
i'm still a jw but am inactive.
im struggling with the fact that i agree with some of the doctrines (i,e, the stance on the trinity, there is no hell) but i disagree with a lot of things (i,e, men can't have beards, women have to wear skirts).

Welcome! I’ve been out mentally forever but have just started the journey of figuring out what I believe and it is exhausting.
For the first time I am able to pick and choose my beliefs. I listen to a lot of Christian podcasts and some teachings I believe and others I don’t, but if the message is good I will probably listen to the next one.
I am going to a church now that believes in the trinity and I don’t but I like the group that attends and they are big on community service and truly loving your neighbor. Plus I don’t get in trouble for actually defending my beliefs that differ from theirs.
This time can be scary and exciting, for once you get to choose what your relationship with god will be like or if you even want one or if you even believe in god. Have fun, take a lot of deep breaths, and enjoy the bumpy ride

This is all just going to show they have the true religion and Satan is really upping the persecution on them.
