  Simon would you consider an open handed smack to the back of a young childs hand, or an open handed spank to the clothed backside abuse?

  Also the disipline you suggests works well once the child is fully verbal, not so well before hand though.

  There are times when any reasonable person would think spanking is okay. Particularly if the consequences of what the child is doing could be signficanly worse than the spanking. Like for an example if your child runs into the street without looking for traffic, or if your child is about to touch a hot stove. Being spanked is clearly better than getting hit by a car or being burned.

  However many parents spank because they are angry at their child. They spank to make themselfs feel better. You should NEVER spank out of anger. If you do that is abuse.

  Also IMO physiological abuse is far worse than physical. Children get hurt all time through play or what ever, but they recover very quickly. However when they are physically abused, it is the physiological componet that makes it so bad. Also we need to have just as much outrage when children are verbally abused. Those scars last a life time.

  Of course sometimes children need to be disiplined, there are even circumstances when spanking is understandable....

  However if you read anything about the Peterson case it was CLEARLY abuse. The details of the case are quite gruesome. Please if you feel any sympothy towards Peterson read the details of the case.

  Rebel I just re-read your post on the first page. What I am talking about fits your defintion of "droplet". However the problem with this is that they say you need "direct contact" to get sick. However many people wouldn't realize that being sneezed on or coughed is considered direct contact.

  Also by the classic definition measles and TB are about the only true airborn illnesses.

  I wouldnt feel much fear in that airplane example... but would you walk through and ebola ward with no protection if I could promise you that you wouldn't accidentally touch something?

  Simone as to my point... Don't you think at this point of the matter, when you become contaegeous is probably just as important as weither it would be airborn?

  If you are not contegous till after you show signficant symptoms, we have a very good chance of isolating patients and getting the outbreak undercontrol.

  IMO arguing about it being airborn is a strawman. There are many non airborn illness that spread VERY well. Some research suggests that even flu isn't truely airborn but droplet (just like ebola). Also evidence suggests that you shed the virus in your sweat... that would give ebola an advantage that many other viruses don't have. Also ebola probably can gain infection through numerous ways... with respitory infections you probably have to get the virus into your respritory tract.

  The virus can very clearly become airborn atleast for short periods of time. However... since respitory infection isn't a symptom normally seen early in the illness it is very unlikely that the patient sheds in an aerosol matter. However vilolent vomiting and stooling probably can create an areosol. Also many medical procedures probably can create an areosol.

  Pistof can you point me to one republican that wanted the CDC budget cut? Just because you believe in a smaller more fiscally responsible, it dosn't mean that you don't belive there are some ligitimate functions for Government.... besides sequestration was the presidents idea.

  Why are we so concerned about if ebola is airborn? The much more important thing is when you become contegous. As long as it stays that you are only contateous late in the illness we will be okay. If people become contageous eariler we are screwed.

  Kneehigh... not to pick on you but it could be airborn but just not yet at that point. Maybe somebody has to get sicker before it would become airborn.
