Yea if you didn't know Google personalizes searches. So your results on google say more about you and your web browsing habits than they do about the watchtower or google. -

It's turning out our religion is one of the worst offenders when it comes to child abuse
by My Name is of No Consequence inremember when we pointed out how bad child abuse was among christendom?
over the last few years, i haven't heard anything about the rampant abuse claims in christendom.
it's turning out that we have our own to deal with, a lot to deal with.

Don't depend on what you hear. This organization is still fighting the Catholic Church...check their stats. They also work with ex-jws regarding abuse in the WTS.
"Don't depend on what you hear" What do you mean by this? I know there was a problem and I know that there are probably victims that haven't felt like they got justice yet. I never claimed otherwise. The headline case on the page was from about 20 years ago. Are they pursing any current or recent cases of abuse?

I am Catholic and I volunteer in youth ministry.
I had to get a background check, get fingerprinted and trained in how to identify and avoid child abuse. Yes there was a problem with abuse, but at least the local church has taken it very seriously and is doing everything possible to make sure it doesn't happen again.
How long till the watchtower admits their mistakes and do everything possible to rectify them?

Child Abuse must be getting out of hand if they're addressing it...
by thedepressedsoul ini'm referring to the video that was uploaded where they finally mentioned the child abuse issue.
we all kinda guessed that if they ever addressed it they'd blame it on the media and apostates.
well, looks like we were spot on.

By their own logic, JW's should leave Watchtower.......
by snare&racket in"university and college campuses are notorious for bad behaviordrug and alcohol abuse, immorality, cheating, hazing, and the list goes on.

having been to university and a jw..it made me think about their logic....... "jehovah's witness congregations are notorious for bad behavioralcohol abuse, immorality, cheating, domestic abuse, child abuse and the list goes on.

High School campuses are notorious for bad behavior—drug and alcohol abuse, immorality, cheating, hazing, and the list goes on.” Watchtower2005 Oct 1 p.28
Doesn't this argument work just as well for high schools as well? Maybe we need to be avoiding them as well.

Has anyone heard any Watchtower PR spin or censorship advisory announcement at the kingdom hall regarding the child abuse story on NPR?
by Island Man ini remember some years ago when barbara did an expose of the child abuse issue on one of the networks, watchtower used the elders to inform the congregations not to view the program that was to be aired.
.
after this recent expose on npr, has there been any official watchtower release read as an announcement at the kingdom hall?.

Does NPR even have a big enough of an audience to be concerned about? -

Are we pro-shunning or against it?
by Simon injust to continue my theme about religious freedom and how we approach criticizing the wts, i've also been thinking about 'shunning'.. i think shunning is the most unifying complaint that most ex-members of religious groups that practice it have in common.
it is the layer that runs under every other complaint - whatever the reason for leaving it seems "... and i was shunned" can be added to it as the final rap on the charge sheet.. of course it seems like a no-brainer to many of us and we hardly ever stop to really think about it - shunning is bad, the watchtower believes in shunning therefore the watchtower is bad.
they need to stop it.

She needed to ask clear and pointed questions. Those poor bethelites had to hear hear verbal diarrhea.
The only question I heard was "What is the point of the videos" pretty vague if you ask me.

Pope thinks hitting children is "Beautiful"
by cofty inone time, i heard a father in a meeting with married couples say `i sometimes have to smack my children a bit, but never in the face so as to not humiliate them.how beautiful!
he knows the sense of dignity!
he has to punish them but does it justly and moves on.

Thank you Simon for
"The only exceptions are not really "punishment" but where you may slap a child's hand away from a fire or hot pan or grab them roughly if they looked like they were running out into the road."
While I might have a slightly broader understanding of the same concept we are not that far a part. All I was hearing was that any physical discipline was always abuse.
As a young child spankings where not effective on me. I have a high pain tolerance and I can be stubborn. As soon as I could talk, talking was the best way to discipline. me. My brother on the other hand was very different. He was hyperactive, obstinate, and probably had a touch of fetal alcohol syndrome(he was adopted so we don't really know his background). You had to get his attention for him to listen. After a good smack he would slow down and listen to what you had to say.
Look every child is different. The skills of every parent are different. It is very difficult to make a broad statement of what is acceptable and what is not acceptable in every circumstance.

My criteria for when physical punishment might acceptable...
The consequences of the child action must be worse than getting spanked (way better to be spanked than hit by a car or burned by a stove)
It shall not be motivated by parents anger. Often parents hit her kids because it makes THEM feel better. That is abuse. The parent shall be totally over their anger and be in a totally calm loving mood when they conduct the punishment.
Only open bare hands are to be used by the parent. (The parent needs to feel it just as much as the child does)
Only the clothed backside or the back of the child's hands are acceptable.
Spanking should only be considered if a verbal lesson would not work. You can not explain the consequences of a child's action to them and teach them a lesson before they are fully verbal. Once a child is fully verbal it should be EXTREMELY rare.
