It has been said at the DC/RC's, a number of times over the past 20 years or so, that this is a wait and see thing.

The congregation that I was in leading up to 75, was a very small, very poor one. Every meeting just about really hammered the "End is Near" and how it's so much more important to be out in the preaching work than ANYTHING. Those of us turning 16 in the last few years before 75, were encouraged to quit school, and start pioneering. I was already living in a small boarding house, going to school and working part time. So the day I turned 16 I quit, and dived head first into the 100 hour a month pioneer service. What I really wanted to do was finish school, and go on to college to be an engineer!! OH god do I wish I had done what I wanted to do. Instead I stayed the course and jw land was it. I feel for it all hook line and sinker.
There was one young brother in the nearest KH to mine, that dared to go off to college. he was treated as if he was Df'ed, and indirectly talked about how ,unfaithful he was. He did very well in college, and for some reason stayed in borgland. After getting starting a very well paying career, all of borgland welcomed him with open HAND's reaching for money!! And he paid his way into the CO/DO work after leaving full time work at 40, with a big bank account. He had 3 kids that all left as they turned 18.

My first few were of the full hour format, then changed. I stopped after having a major back injury in 94.
I loved public speaking, that's the one good thing I learned growing up in borgland. I don't do any public stuff anymore. I did a few Microsoft events at trade shows, and a few at consumer shows as well. I always loved being able to put teckie stuff into words everyone understood. If I had lived in a larger area, I would have gotten to do much more!!!

Is that a pumpkin in your window, brother?

"brother miller, it's been reported that your family may have a pumpkin in your window.
" he waited for an answer although he never asked a question.

I used to have a small shop. In the window I always had item's connected with what I did in my shop. Included was a string of light's I had made, out of empty holders, with small bulb's hanging from them. They were on 24/7/365. One early December evening after the meeting a couple of "brothers" said they needed to speak with me in the back. After a few how's it going etc's. "Brother X say's, it's come to our attention that you have Christmas lights hanging in your shop window??? I said, I don't know where you got your info from, but NO I do not have Christmas lights in the windows. "Brother" Y say's, we drove past your shop the other night and saw them all lit up, and a few others have seen them as well. I told them, that those light's are a part of my year round display, and have been there for three years! Well "sister" so and so's bible study saw them and was HIGHLY offended! You need to remove them!! I said NO!! You need to just explain that they are a permanent part of my store display, and because they are on all the time, no one thinks they're Christmas lights, and they really catch my target customers eyes, and bring in a large part of my business!! They said, well as long as they're up, we won't be able to use you for any special things in the congregation!! I said, OK and got up and left!! I was already on the road to waking up, and this was just one more PUSH!!!!

"Awake" 1973 says Witnesses should not play CHESS it's EVIL!!!
by Witness 007 inawake 73 march 22 p.12 "the spirit of competition between players can lead to unplesant circumstances...in some homes tensions linger long past checkmate...chess has been a game of war since it originated...the games conection to war is obvious....a play substitue for the art of war...there is a danger of stirring uo competition with one another even developing hostility with one another something the bible warns against....what effect does playing chess have on one?
is it a wholesome effect?
....there are questions regarding it that each one who plays chess should consider.".

I remember that very well. I had a JW school teacher, when that came out. He had taught me to play chess, and we played every day at lunch time. We had a good discussion about it, and both agreed that Chess is a game that teaches one to THINK, and to use one's mind to plan ahead!! It's not a game of war, they were wrong then, and are still, WRONG!!
If more leaders would play Chess instead of golf.................

Family is now reaping what they sowed and they don't like it.
by Gemmel ini resigned from the jw's in my 20's over 30 years ago, i was immediately shunned by my entire family and it's remained that way with a few exceptions ever since.
one of those exceptions was being contacted by a cousin a few years back and during that conversation i discovered that my mother had been and still was the prime mover in my complete and continuing shunning.
i then used what contacts i had left to confirm it.

WOW!!!! I support you, no matter what you chose to do!!!
I would have said. Give me and your address and I'll send a check to help out right away.
And the next day i would have sent a check Registered mail for $1, and told them that was all I cared enough to send!!

The two new item's are not intended for the general public. and being for the past few years no print copies of new item's have been offered at EC's/DC's, it no biggie. The cash cow of RC's/DC's will keep going, the average JW will go no matter WHAT. They have and continue to be conditioned/brain washed, that it's all important to be there!!
I know families that go to more than one RC, because they have elderly parent's that are totally dependent on other for everything, and do not care how much of a burden it is on their families to take them!!
My wife's aunt, is a HUGH WET blanket to everyone, and is dependent on other's to get to the RC's. She never help's with the cost of taking her, but saved up all year so she can drop $200 in the box every year! We used to take her, but two years ago I told her, she needed to find another way. She's still trying to get us to take her.
Anyway it's no big deal when the new junk is released!!!!

Do KHs lock their doors when meeting starts now?
by NikL inmy still in wife informed me this morning that she must be on time to the meeting as they are locking the door when it starts now.. i said that's crazy.
she said it's because of the times we are living in.. we live in a rural area and crime isn't terrible though it's worse than it used to be.. i told her if that's the way it is then why bother leaving the house at all?.
she said they are just trying to be safe.. is this a thing now?

I am 60, and my mom was dunked when I was 2. In my 58+ years of being stuck in this thing, I have been in over 30 Cong's, and visited 100"s. One I was in around Atlanta back in the 80's locked both the door's and the gate's. One I visited a lot in Memphis back in the 90's, always locked the door's. Another in Hollywood, locked the door's as well. Two I visited in Chicago back in the 70's also locked the door's.
It all depends on the location!!

District Assemblies now being held at Circuit Assembly locations?
by ShirleyW ini haven't been to a kh in decades, so i get the google alerts for jws and i got one featuring a local news channel in brooklyn covering the assembly being held in flatbush, brooklyn.
i'm sure that venue is where the circuit assemblies are usually held, keeping in mind it's summer and that's when the district assemblies are being held.
why are they acting like they're so strapped for cash and now holding district assemblies in circuit assemblies locations ?.

TH DC'S/RC's have been down sized for a number of reason, and I don't pretend to know all the reason's.
The one I do know, has to do with Home Land Security, and large gatherings. Any over a certain size, have a hugh amount of external security, including armed guards, inside and out, screening of everyone coming into the building with REAL armed security personal, and so much more is involved. And the Very High Dollar cost is paid by the Org holding the event!!! Can you see the ten's of thousand's of dollar's it would take from the borg's grubby little finger's.
I have a few long time friends that moved over to Home Land security a few years back, and they have told me about the size trigger's. I have also seen it on news sites!!
