I highly recommend you start with "Why Does E = MC^2" by Brian Cox. He does a great job of breaking it down simply and when I read it, it's all in his sexy, sexy, sexy voice. But that probably won't help you, though.

Why is it that people who are self-admittedly ignorant of a subject are those that accuse people who are educated on being elitist or not open to new ideas? It betrays not only ignorance of a subject, but also of a key component of the scientific method.
