Theists, why does God allow suffering..

..specifically, the suffering of animals.

you can talk about free will/sin/people choosing to not listen to god etc to explain human suffering being allowed.. but how can you love a god that allows animals, that haven't sinned or chosen to not have anything to do with god, to have their short lives ended in often long, drawn out, painful ways.

i could list stories i've read that would probably make you feel ill, but i'm not looking to shock anyone or start an emotional debate.

There must be some inherent value to suffering that we can't see or understand from our current perspective.

Instead of "must", what you mean is "the only reason I can think of is that my mind is so limited that..."

You appear to be starting from a position of "true unless proven false", from an apologist position. You've gotten how evidence works exactly backwards. Unless you've provided me a reason to believe in a dirt man and rib lady getting dietary advice from a talking snake, you've got all your work ahead of you.

DJS is spot on. It is a case of privilege perceived as right. Christians have held sway for so long, they perceive their privilege of holding sway to be a natural born right when it is indeed no such thing at all. It's simply not having known another way or situation and the idea of not holding sway, when they have done so for so long with such horrific results, is abominable and horrifying.

My answer to that is... too f'ing bad.

Go ahead and explain the meaning of Hebrews 8:13, I'll be waiting right here.

It means the covenant making Israel a chosen nation was null and void. It says nothing about the Law. Gays were still considered icky. Try reading what the Bible says, not what you want it to say.
