On respect for the belief of others. Sorry for the long post
by StarTrekAngel ini am inclined to start this thread in response to some comments made in other threads.
i have been coming around these forum for quite some time now so whatever you find in here is not just related to something someone may have said this week.
it can go months back as well.. i have seen many who claim to respect the belief of others but when it comes down to applying it into practice, things take a whole different tune.

I'm boarding a flight in 15 minutes, so a response would be either later tonight or tomorrow (or in the air if the flight has WiFi.) -

I don't personally agree with it but I think it's because a person's identity, their belief about the purpose of life and their view on life after death are usually tied up with their religion.
If they choose to bring it up for discussion, how tied up and invested in that ideas falls under the category of "You should have about that before you decided to bring the topic up, theist."

didn't tell me much more, did you, Viv.
In fact, it seems as if you told me the least amount possible. This may shock you, but I don't always have time for detailed responses and sometimes I prefer to give short answer until I understand why someone is asking it.
The only time I discuss religion outside of this forum is with my kids or when someone brings it up with me and ignores my requests to drop it (or when JWs knock on my door).
I politely explain why I find none of their reasons compelling, explain that it's not JUST Islam, but all religion and belief in the spiritual. The topics are usually up to the theists.

We can reduce that to one question...
1) Are you a member of any religion?

There are at least teen churches within a mile of my house. In the county I live in there is a church for every 107 people. -

To answer your question, I've had many discussions with Muslims and had no problem at all - please tell me more about these discussions. Did you tell the Muslims that you didn't believe in Allah? That if Allah existed, you would regard him as violent, cruel, homophobic, misogynistic, tyrannical?
Did you tell them that you viewed the Qur'an as the word of men, not God? Did you tell them your views on Muhammad? On Sharia law?Yes. why?

Blame wine for this post.
Why would someone blame wine for you not knowing the situation or taking the time to understand the difference betweeen the two?
